Trade news confirmed via Daily Mail the additions of a trio of actors for Gina Prince-Bythewood’s latest, The Old Guard. Production on the forthcoming graphic novel adaptation is based on the titular novel from Greg Rucka about a team of immortal mercenaries whose leader, Andy, played by Charlize Theron, wants a break from all the killing. Thursday’s report from Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigboye shares new details about the characters joining the fray hailing from Netflix and Skydance Media with actress Veronica Ngo, and actors Chiwetel Ejiofor and Harry Melling. Both hail from the launch of his newly-established Long House Productions according to Mia Galuppo and Rebecca Ford at THR. First up starring Golding is Harrington’s Greatest Hits from a reimagined Black List script by Dutch Southern. The film tells of an elite, aging assassin who finds himself marked for death by the arms-dealing father of a former target. The first official teaser is out for Teddy Chan’s latest Kung Fu Killer follow-up, Double World. The epic fantasy visual adventure, produced by Soi Cheang (SPL and Monkey King franchises) and based on the popular MMORPG, is set for a November 22 release and joins a cast that lists Peter Ho, Henry Lau, Jiang Luxia and Him Law. Plot details are unknown at this stage until a trade can provide some exact details. At any rate, the footage looks positively amazing and hopefully will bode prospectively for its release given the dented record China has had in the last few years when its come to releasing big-scale fantasy epics like Asura and Nezha. I love that some people can handle a good headbutt a little more than others in Stanley Tong’s latest, Vanguard. It’s a nifty little point of humor amid what looks to be an explosive action thriller that amps up the stunt caliber just enough to make Jackie Chan and the cast look good without anyone getting seriously injured. Big guns and fast fists and feet arise in this little endeavor which also stars Yang Yang, actress Miya Muqi and actor Allen Ai in a story about a covert international security agency going up against a powerful terrorist organization that finds itself as the last, best hope for an accountant marked for death by terrorists. Coming this August, expect director Tony Chan to keep the rescue-paced narratives going with Bona Film Group’s The Bravest which is now circulating a teaser just days into the 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival. The Bravest sees a cast that includes Huang Xiaoming, Tan Zhuo, Oho Ou, and Du Jiang starring from a script by Chao Wang about a team of firefighters on a harrowing mission to quell a raging fire at an oil refinery in Dalian. The film, which is reportedly based on true events, releases in China on August 1.
