Director and longtime fight coordinator Carter Ferguson has seen a rising of late with the numerous wins he’s amassed on the shortfilm front. With a sequel now in production, there’s pretty much no question as to the success of Dead End and that of actor Bryan Larkin’s foreseeable future following further credits in Ross Boyask’s Vengeance and Donnie Yen crime drama, Chasing The Dragon. Dead End definitely aims for edginess in its approach to the hitman genre, less so an action thriller than a well-focused, kinetic and stirring character study with a script that evenly matches pacing and performance caliber. Bao Tran’s THE PAPER TIGERS Fulfills On Kickstarter, Signals Forthcoming Stretch Goals

On Saturday, the official Facebook page for Bao Tran‘s upcoming film, The Paper Tigers, posted a new video announcing they’ve reached their all-or-nothing Kickstarter goal. “We have a bit of news for The Paper Tigers on our Kickstarter,” said producer Al’n Duong. “We have reached our goal!” The Paper Tigers began as a shortfilm proof of concept called The Challenger, starring Martial Club’s own Andy Le, and Unlucky Stars actor Ken Quitugua. The release of the short followed with the production of the ten-minute pitch that was funded via Fractured Atlas and presented to buyers at the Frontiéres Platform at the Marché du Film at Cannes earlier this year. Footage from that pitch was finally introduced in a preliminary teaser on October 29 when the Kickstarter launched to help crowdfund a total of $110,000. As hard as it is to make a movie, the journey to complete the first film certainly had its challenges before releasing in 2012, while the forthcoming sequel, Iron Sky: The Coming Race, was a definitively gruesome undertaking. Upon announcing Iron Sky spin-off, The Ark, the first official teaser trailer for Iron Sky: The Coming Race launched last May. It was five years ago today that I stood just outside a movie theater one evening and wept at the news of actor Paul Walker’s death. It’s certainly a day that his fans will never forget, and considerably for his colleagues, immediate friends and family back in 2013 just as the actor barely finished filming his last movie, Furious Seven, for Universal. Going forward, however, has been a different tale as Walker’s friends and loved ones have been on hand to uphold their late brother’s legacy ever since. Crunchyroll is announcing a new partnership with Adult Swim and Alcon Entertainment’s Alcon TV shingle to produce and distribute Blade Runner: Black Lotus. The move comes over a year since the release of Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049, the long-awaited continuation of Ridley Scott’s celebrated 1982 cult futuristic neo-noir thriller. Producers confirmed the story will take place in the year 2032 and will include some familiar characters from the Blade Runner universe. This places the series between Watanabe Shinichiro’s Crunchyroll release, Blade Runner 2022, and Luke Scott’s Blade Runner 2036: Nexus Dawn, two of three shortfilms commissioned by Villeneuve to promote the 2017 movie that won seven awards from five organizations, including two Academy Awards in visual effects and cinematography. INEMURI IWANE: Watch The First Teaser For The New Samurai Drama

Director Motoki Katsuhide is taking cues from Saeki Yasuhide’s Futaba Bunko novel series and its three-volume NHK TV series follow-up for the new film, Inemuri Iwane. This one will surely be given an international renaming going forward while the first official teaser has arrived ahead of its May 17 release. The film centers on Iwane and his two friends, Kinpei and Shinnosuke, all who train at the same dojo, and Kinpei’s younger sisters, Shinnosuke’s wife, Mai, and Iwane’s fianceè, Mao. Blood begets blood when Kinpei kills Shinnosuke for murdering Mai in a jealous rage, forcing Iwane’s hand in a duel in the wake of an already-decimated brotherhood. However, Sony is very much keen on weighing in the Marvel property, especially in the wake of its $822+ million dollar global box office success with Tom Hardy’s starring outing in Venom last month. The latest THR report cites that a Spider-Verse sequel and spin-off are already in the works stemming from Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. Point in fact, Tjahjanto himself hinted on Twitter about his own hopes to act on the momentum created by the film to build a cinematic world in which there is more to the story than the one led by Joe Taslim in the role of gangland enforcer-turned-bodyguard and avenging angel of death, Ito.
