Among all the sorts of things a film fan could hope for, pushing the envelope certainly serves well as a priority and always tantamount for any director working on an action film. One as ambitious as Victor Vu’s latest sci-fi thriller, Loi Bao, certainly has its merits in that aspect given what we’ve seen in the stunts and fightwork from action director Vincent Wang and it’s certainly feasible to note actor Cuong Seven thusfar as a worthy lead. Frank Grillo In Talks To Reach BOSS LEVEL For Director Joe Carnahan

Deadline is reporting that Joe Carnahan will be possibly reteaming with Frank Grillo for the new action thriller, Boss Level. The film is a co-production between Emmett/Furla/Oasis and DiBonaventura Pictures along with Carnahan and Grillo via their WarParty banner, and Scott Free. Carnahan also wrote the script which tells of Grillo in the role of a retired special forces veteran in a life-or-death-on-repeat fight to find the person responsible and kibosh the never-ending death loop he’s trapped in. Actor Mel Gibson is also in talks for an unspecified role which would see the two actors back on screen since appearing in Martin Campbell’s 2010 thriller, Edge Of Darkness. Financing will be provided by Emmett/Furla/Oasis whose Randall Emmett and George Furla will produce with Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian. Scott Free’s Jules Daly is executive producing. Night Of Something Strange helmer Jonathan Straiton is looking to build on his acclaimed stature as of late. With efforts going toward the production of action horror, Johnny Z, Straiton has all the pieces to his current plan laid out with at least half of his budget already met, and the other half now needed with all the help he can his cast and crew can muster via Indiegogo. “Johnny Z” is a horror-action feature film about a half human, half zombie named Johnny who, under the guidance of a martial arts master seeks vengeance on the evil corporation that created him. I’m inclined to take a little credit for this one, regardless of how deluded I sound. I tweeted at actor Ryan Reynolds maybe a year or two ago asking if he would be interested in playing the late television painter, Bob Ross, in a biopic. He never replied, although I’m keen on believeing that I’m probably not the only one who believed this and whatever the case may be, 20th Century Fox is now making this part of their marketing push for Reynolds’s forthcoming festive R-rated Marvel sequel, Deadpool 2, directed by David Leitch. Director Lu Yang’s 2014 period thriller, Brotherhood Of Blades, was a rollicking and highly heralded feat of swordplay-infused suspense and drama. The sequel, a precursor to the intial film has already taken shape in China and now has a stake in North America for a December 1 theatrical release in select theaters with Brotherhood Of Blades 2: The Infernal Battlefield. An imperial guard searches for the truth behind a conspiracy that framed him and his partners. The proof of his innocence lies with a wanted woman named Bei Zhai… but will she reveal what she knows? Last week’s episode of The Ryan Carr Show was especially informative as much as it was stimulating. Carr and co-host, actress and screenwriter Natalee Arteaga sat with the 39-year stunt veteran and background actor Peter Antico on Friday to discuss the week’s news along with a plethora of gems pertaining to his heyday beginnings as a stuntman and the knowledge he’s accrued in the years since. Our trio also engage persuasions over issues pertaining to the recent SAG/AFTRA presidential election following Gabrielle Carteris’s re-election back in August, as well as the need for more stunt and safety committees, pay and pension equality, union transparency and much more. The ending gets a little bit more robust and suspenseful as well, I’d say. But informative nonetheless and especially for stunt and film professionals alike. Enjoy!

Friday night marked another big event weekend in which I had the opportunity to partially partake. A night of festive dining, laughter and comeradery that felt all too short for me, though I managed to fend off the sleep deprivation for a whole day to write about it. Inspired DC Fan Film, BLACK LIGHTING: TOBIAS’S REVENGE: Part Two Goes Live On Tuesday

Next year will soon see the premiere of the CW’s latest superhero serial adaptation, Black Lighting. That hasn’t hindered actor and award-winning filmmaker Choice Skinner from installing his own seal of approval on the popular DC Comics character and as it stands, lending a spotlight to two major superhero IPs in the same universe. For this, Skinner’s own independently-produced and non-profit fan film project, Black Lightining: Tobias’s Revenge, is finally set to air its finale on Tuesday at 9:00am PST/12:00pm Eastern. HITMAN Series In The Works At Fox 21 And Hulu

Next to John Wick 3 (2019) and development of The Steward, screenwriter Derek Kolstad’s days of storying narrative projects about badass hitmen are far from over. Going into next year, keep the noted scribe in mind as we look into what lies ahead with word from Deadline of a revival of the popular game, Hitman from IO Interactive. Kolstad will be penning a pilot script that hews close to the game franchise that centers on 47, a fully engineered clandestine group of genetically enhanced, numbered assassins with trademark barcodes on their heads. Kolstad is also executive producing with Adrian Askarieh and Chuck Gordon for Fox 21 and Hulu with plans to reportedly construct a flagship series. The past few months have been astir for Tencent Pictures, having ramped up its slate of up to more than forty-three film and television projects back in September. Keeping the pace going further, we’re getting a look at just one of their latest ambitious film offerings from Taiwanese filmmaker Su Chaopin (Reign Of Assassins, Silk), now headed for 2018 with the new manhua adaptation, Pathfinder. Central to the narrative is actor Song Yang (Judge Archer, The Sword Idenity, The Final Master) with actresses Xi and Jingjing Qu starring from a script by Xu that pits a group humans on a desolate moon planet fighting to survive the dangerous elements, and a deadly female villain. What’s Your Favorite Anime?

Trigger The past few years have grown on me as I’ve tried to consume as much programmimg as possible with my return to anime, especially in the wake of so many live action adaptation. Shows like Keijo, Death Parade, Samurai Champloo, Ajin, Hunter X Hunter, RWBY and Kurumanda Masami’s 1986 classic, Saint Seiya: Sanctuary, have all been okay to pass the time with, but I’ve grown into several favorites along the way. Kill La Kill, hailed from the director of Gurren Lagann, comes first among the bunch as one of the more memorable ones for me. GONG SHOU DAO: Jack Ma VS. The Martial Arts World In The Official Trailer

I would say seven minutes is awfully long for a trailer, but this is what’s being doled out ahead of a release of twenty minutes of watching Alibaba founder Jack Ma go toe-to-toe with the best and biggest in film fighting and sports in his shortfilm debut, Gong Shou Dao. No sign of Master Yuen, Tony Ching or Sammo, but we do get the rest of our fighting cast in full form with Ma in fighting garb joined by Donnie Yen, Wu Jing, Tony Jaa, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Jacky Heung, Zou Shiming and Asashoryu Akinori.
