Photo: The Hollywood Reporter Skiptrace helmer Renny Harlin is already underway in China with his latest film, Legend Of The Ancient Sword, following its SIFF 2016 announcement back in June. The film is inspired by Gamebar’s popular 2010 3D role-playing game, developed by Shanghai Aurogon with a plot that centers on a young boy who survives a village massacre and is taught the mystical ways of the sword, thus meeting new allies on his journey toward vengeance, and the possible reunion with his mother. Alibaba Pictures Group is behind financing and production of the film which Harlin described at the time as a “big, epic fantasy adventure” with the goal of integrating both work spaces of Hollywood and China to help bolster action, VFX and production value in general. SHIP BREAKER Adaptation, Long-Awaited Indian Martial Arts Epic, THE 19TH STEP, Bring Phillip Lee On Board To Produce

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Revenant and Assassin’s Creed producer Phillip Lee’s latest embarkment with Indian cinema is a title now making its way back into headlines after about nearly decade of being in development. 2008 saw one of the earlier announcements of a film titled The 19th Step from director Bharat Bala, telling of a 9th century epic which focuses on the ancient martial arts style of Kalaripayattu in its origins long before Chinese Kung Fu was born. Greg McClean’s THE BELKO EXPERIMENT Is The Ultimate Corporate Test Of Mankind’s Most Natural Instincts In The First Trailer

Wolf Creek 1 & 2 helmer Greg McClean’s latest, The Belko Experiment, was a rousing feat at its Midnight Madness premiere for the Toronto International Film Festival in September. The film was immediately received with acquistion news for a partnered release between Orion and Blumhouse’s BHTilt prior to a mixture of reviews that largely place the film upwards of an entertaining thriller that takes its cues from films like Battle Royale and Office Space. Five years in following his lo-fi Tokusatsu action comedy debut feature, Gun Caliber, actor, writer and filmmaker Bueno has been out and about continuing down his own creative path after launching his own indie banner, Garage Hero. BROS. MAXMAN Teams Superhero Sibs Against Evil Forces In The First Trailer

I can’t remember the last time an average joe schmo put on a pair of glasses and became a superhero. Apparently this is the narrative being stuck to as seen in Masuda Akihide’s 2015 debut, Mr. Maxman spoofing the superhero genre with comedic doses aplenty. The same, as it stands, can pretty much be said for the new 2017 sequel, Bros. Maxman. Newly joining is actor Ryusei Ryo with returning actor Chiba Yudai as our brotherly title heroes where the former finds himself haphazardly turned into a superhero and, much like his older sib, falls in love with a woman at the same news station where they work. We saw the first official teaser trailer for Dean Isrealite’s Power Rangers back in October ahead of its forthcoming release in March of next year and prior to this, most of the costumes thusfar look fantastic. That said, up until now the only gripe I’ve had was Poison Ivy look of villainess Rita Repulsa as depicted in costume with actress Elizabeth Banks. With the film’s release just months away, we now have our first look at the A.L.P.H.A. 5 character in full CG with some (if not very few) elememts kept from the original series based on the droid who operates the command center where the Rangers’ leader, Zordon, resides in his concealed interdimensional state. Catch The Latest Trailer For Cho Ui-Seok’s MASTER

A friend of mine named Takai got on my case for not remembering an action scene from the film, Kundo which featured actor Gang Dong-Won as the main villain. She’s an avowed fan of his and that being said, she sort of put me in the doghouse (jokingly) even though I hadn’t seen the film in a couple of years. Still though, I give her credit for following up on Gang and his activity with his most recent film, director Chi Ui-Seok’s Master, in which he leads the tale of a intellectual crime unit led by a detective as they take on a massive fraud case. Also starring principally are Lee Byung-Hun and Kim Woo-Bin as the respective president and brains of the very corporation now in Gang’s sights and clearly our villains are trying to hide something, considering the conniving, scheming and explosive chaos occuring as a result. THE HIT LIST: November 28, 2016

Particular current events in the news notwithstanding, Thanksgiving weekend was a mild letdown on my end. We still had dinner though, which was awesome as always. A bit indigestive? Yes… But delish nonetheless. I also slowed down a bit so I can enjoy my weekend some, though with my Facebook notifications and messages buzzing with entries for the Hit List, I couldn’t pass it up and indeed there were a few things I wanted to share anyway. The pitch trailer for Peter Ricq’s gory new horror thriller production, Dead Shack, is just too hilarious. The biggest factor in that is the seemingly young age of the children in the footage which makes this so much more fun given the vision and overall look and tone and it all looks really appealing. That said, the word is that the characters are being reprised by an older cast line-up though I hope that this doesn’t take away from the film’s desired affect. The New Trailer For South Korean Action Comedy, COOPERATION, Gets A Little Too Close For Comfort

My own off-time has allowed me to catch up on a bunch of South Korean film gems this year and so I plan on taking in some more going into 2017. Cooperation, CJ Entertainment’s latest feat from sophomore director Kim Sung-Hoon certainly looks like a worthwhile treat with an odd couple twist about two cops from both sides of the DMZ working to bring down the boss of a North Korean refugee crime organization. The Fatal Encounter star Hyun-Bin and Veteran co-star Yu Hae-Jin lead the film opposite Intimate Enemies co-star Kim Ju-Hyeok among its cast for its January release. Thus, we have a first teaser to help kick things off until the usual trailer and poster goods arrive and for all intents and purposes, this looks pretty lively and fun to look forward to. SUPER EXPRESS Delivers Zany Laughs And Big Leaps In The Latest Trailer

Right off the bat, director Xiao Song’s latest affair, Super Express, is outright silly looking and completely for the comedy crowd. Needless to say this one also dares to tap into the action niche some with the presence of none other than actor and parkour extraordinare David Belle to accomodate the antics of Michael Chan and actress Song Ji-Hyo who lead the story of a courier whose chance meeting with a beautiful woman embroil him in a world of crime and danger. Obviously. The film is coming out on December 2 and so for those of you, whether you’re eager to get your comedy or screenfighting fix, this might pass as an okay night out at the movies. The Official Trailer For Andrew Goth Sci-Fi Action Thriller, MINDGAMERS, Is Just Mental!

Gallowwalkers helmer Andrew Goth’s latest turns out to be a bit of a bigger deal than expected. The new film which headlines Sam Neill among its youthful cast was initially titled DxM as per its narrative about a brilliant group of students who discover the dark side of their latest scientific awakening. The film saw a trailer early last year while press on the film tapered off before long and remained off the radar until now.
