RoboCop Retrospective, ROBODOC, Is Coming In 2017

I remember the first time I saw Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 sci-fi, RoboCop. By then I was already familiar with the ultra-violent tone having seen the sequel first, though it didn’t take away at all from the experience of observing the story of our hero, Alex Murphy, played iconically by Peter Weller once upon a time. Fast forward through to the new millenium, RoboCop, in its purest original form, stands the test of time for fans alike, and far from any of its latter, more toned-down PG-13 treatments in film and television. Nope, nothing of the sort. We watched as Murphy shed blood and donned the cybernetic armor and implants as the brainchild hero that would ultimately fight back against citywide crime and the corporate plutocracy that created him. Keep this in mind as the subscription video service recently launched its second exclusive season of Daredevil, and with great success and fervor from fans who have already drawn attention to other series prospects such as a Punisher or an Elektra series. Director Tim Miller’s hit movie, Deadpool, won in epic fashion last weekend at the MTV movie awards, taking away accolades for Best Comedy and Best Fight – this all following its prime box office victory in becoming the highest grossing R-rated superhero movie, ever. So, what else is in tow? Well, the sequel was already announced for active development back in February before then, but as with all things in film, these updates take time to become solid. To date, my favorite film is Nico: Above The Law next to the 1991 film, Out For Justice while having grown up with all of his movies right up until he entered the straight-to-DVD arena. And so it begins. The production of the upcoming live-action treatment of Ghost In The Shell has commenced in New Zealand. Accordingly, we have our first look at the lead character as portrayed by Marvel franchise actress Scarlett Johansson, and the controversy that will ultimately ensue over a Caucasian actress playing a prominently Japanese role. This will obviously go either way, although hopefully there will be more to this production as things move forward to give us some more optimism. A live-action push for this one was bound to happen eventually and now that it is, granted, we have a good actress on hand, let’s hope this will be enough for fans all around. Fingers crossed! At any rate, it beats not seeing actor Channing Tatum on screen you need only look further at a few places – one including CinemaCon where Sony has since confirmed its long-rumored plans to merge Tatum’s Jumpstreet movieverse with that of the sci-fi comedy epic, Men In Black for the hybrid crossover, MIB 23. Well, it was a matter of months or longer, but now it looks like the production behind the forthcoming Han Solo spin-off has reached a new plateau. Deadline reports that Hail, Caesar! co-star Alden Ehrenreich has officially been cast to play the title role, with the looming possibility of a cameo in Gareth Edwards’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The news comes as one of a few updates including that of character actor Spencer Wilding being tapped to suit up as Darth Vader just a few days ago, all since the Han Solo spin-off was announced last summer. Personally I’d always wondered why there was never a sequel to actor and director Warren Beatty’s 1990 adaptation, Dick Tracy. In the years since its inception in the 1930’s as a comic strip with various radio and television shows and films thereafter, the franchise was a favorite leading up to Beatty’s own efforts which prospered at the box office and earned numerous awards. However, the film wasn’t a hit in the eyes of its studio who felt they lost more than they gained, legal proceedings ensued between Beatty and Tribune Media Service – the latter who initially owned the film and TV rights to Dick Tracy. Hollywood’s knack for balls-to-the-wall blockbuster filmmaking notwithstanding, director Gareth Edwards’s 2014 reprisal of classic Toho mainstay for Warner Bros., Godzilla, didn’t bode well for all of its observers. Some loved it in its delivery and even enough to help grant it its upcoming sequel while others were critical and probably a few hated it. For about the first twenty minutes of director William Monahan’s 2015 film, Mojave, an ascetic hand is at work in laying out the mise-en-scène and inciting incident of his self-written script. It all begins with a video clip of protagonist Tom, leaning back in a chair and smoking a cigarette. We learn that he has been famous for most of his life, the nature of his celebrity a question (the answer, though made clear later, is perhaps inapropos, if we allow that Tom, in his own way, is a cipher), and that he is bored with his life to the point of suicidal insouciance. Insouciance, as it were, at once a term a duo of emulous characters in this film would discuss for hours in a Metaphysica drama. Spencer Wilding towering against Scott Adkins in “Green Street Hooligans: Underground” (2013) Actor and kickboxer Spencer Wilding is largely known for protraying costumed roles in films like Guardians Of The Galaxy (2014) and Victor Frankentein (2015). Lakeshore, Screen Gems Announce UNDERWORLD: BLOOD WARS For This Year

It was last year that Lakeshore Entertainment announced the production of director Anna Foerster’s induction to the epic Vampire V Lycan saga for the fifth Underworld movie. Apparently as far as titles go, Underworld: Next Generation wasn’t hugely feasible, and so it was through social media that the production waited and deliberated what its newest title will be. That title now comes in the form of actress Kate Beckinsale’s return to lead in Underworld: Blood Wars, which is officially dated for October 14, 2016 from Lakeshore Entertainment and Screen Gems. The Divergent Series co-star Theo James is also rejoining the action horror franchise as is Charles Dance. Tobias Menzies and Lara Pulver round out the cast with James Faulkner, Peter Andersson, newcome actress Clementine Nicholson, and actor Bradley James and Daisy Head.
