Aquaman helmer James Wan may not be producing the Resident Evil reboots that were announced in 2017, but that hasn’t thusfar brought cause for concern. 47 Meters Down helmer Johannes Roberts is penning a script from which he’ll so far direct as far as plans go as of early December, so for now, keep an eye out for those updates if you wish to keep all your corporate skullduggery and zombie-killing on the big screen… That’s unless you prefer to share that bit of excitement at home in which case, Netflix has your back. Universal’s Female-Led FAST Spin-Off Gets Marvel And Hasbro Writers

It appears Universal is steadfast on testing the shelflife of the long-running Fast saga since landing in 2001 with Rob Cohen at the helm. Eighteen years, eight films and well over $5.1 billion dollars at the box office later, the franchise has rewarded itself by entering spin-off territory with now two titles forthwith. This week, franchise star Vin Diesel took to Instagram to announce an all-female trinity of screenwriting talent in the form of Nicole Perlman, Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Universal hasn’t announced the film themselves yet while the announcement on Diesel’s end bookends now public knowledge that the film will be a female-fronted contribution to the franchise. I am told that actor and filmmaker Dustin Nguyen is developing a Vietnamese remake of South Korean action comedy, My Wife Is A Gangster for production later this year. The project is one of at least two movies now in development for Nguyen to helm since taking the mantle for his 2013 martial arts fantasy debut, Once Upon A Time In Vietnam (a.k.a. Lua Phat). Jo Jin-kyu directed the 2001 original in which actress Shin Eun-kyung plays Eun-jin (a.k.a. Mantis), an underworld enforcer with no real sense of her own femininity or the world outside of gang life. Despite this, Eun-jin is forced to mitigate between her secret life in the world of violent mafia politics, and fulfilling her sister’s dying wish: to see Eun-jin get married and settle down with a family. Voltage Preps Airborne Serial Killer Thriller, BLACKWING, From David Loughery

Steven Spielberg’s 1971 classic road suspense thriller, Duel, and Jonathan Mostow’s 1997 Kurt Russell-led Breakdown are now the ideal composition and tone set for David Loughery’s new airborne thriller, Blackwing. Voltage Pictures is backing the picture adding to its production slate with Voltage chief Nicolas Chartier producing with Dominic Rustam, and president and COO Jonathan Deckter exec producer with Brad Kaplan and Loughery. As Screendaily reports, Blackwing “centres on a pilot who finds himself trapped in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse with an airborne serial killer.” A cast remains to be announced for which they’ll star from Loughery’s script. “Blackwing is the kind of intelligent, gripping thriller that captivates audiences,” said Deckter. “We’re thrilled to kick off another incredible year for Voltage by adding this smart, highly commercial project to our 2019 production slate.” Voltage’s slate also lists Sundance entry Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile, and Jessica Chastain’s recent […]

Deadline‘s Peter White is reporting exclusively that stunt coordinator and filmmaker Jung Byung-gil will be on par to direct a pilot episode for a TV series adaptation of 2017 Cannes favorite, The Villainess. Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment (The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead) is shepherding the series in a deal with Next Entertainment World’s Contents Panda with the search now underway for a series writer. The Villainess follows Anes, who was kidnapped from her home in Korea and raised as a deadly assassin in Los Angeles. Traffik helmer Deon Taylor is setting up to direct Black And Blue, starring Naomie Harris, for Screen Gems according to Amanda N’Duka’s exclusive coverage at Deadline. The Pirates Of The Caribbean and 007 franchise co-star of late is also to be joined by upcoming Donnybrook, Boss Level and Point Blank star Frank Grillo, as well as Reid Scott (Veep), Beau Knapp (Destroyer) and Tyrese Gibson. Sony’s Screen Gems is housing the production from a script by Peter A. Dowling. Shadow And Bone was published by Macmillian in 2012 as the first of the Grisha trilogy through 2014. With over 2.5 million copies sold in the English language alone, Bardugo’s Grishaverse books have been translated into 38 languages around the world and counting.
