SPAWN Is A Go At Blumhouse With Todd McFarlane Directing

When comic book auteur Todd McFarlane isn’t blowing minds on Facebook with live sketch tutorials, he’s tending to ever-patient fans who’ve been watching and waiting for the next big update on a hopeful Spawn film. Looking to culmimate his longstanding epic Color crime trilogy which began in 2003, producer Wong Jing is back and sharing the director’s chair for Colour Of The Game which opens this Fall. Ka Wai Kam sits at the helm for the new thriller which centers on a triad member and his protégé who befall a deadly consipiracy amid a mission of vengeance for a mob boss. Actors Simon Yam, Jordan Chan, Philip Ng, Eddie Cheung and Lam Suet, actress Sabrina, and actor Eric Tsang comprise the cast of those headlining for the film’s opening date on September 14. Ben Affleck is still, albeit tentatively, set to star in War For The Planet Of The Apes helmer Matt Reeves’s currently developing trilogy starter, The Batman, as Warner Bros. continues plotting ahead with its expected production slate, including the forthcoming production of New Line Cinema’s Shazam. That being said, the future of Warner Bros. and its DC adaptations regarding all things Batman after this November’s release of Justice League is reportedly an unclear one. It was a little over a year ago that a Japanese live-action adaptation of manga author Oda Eiichiro’s longstanding Shueisha Inc. publication and anime IP, One Piece, was announced for its own live-action movie. I’m not certain if that project is still moving forward but I’ll be sure to spread the word if I hear anything else, although considering recent movement over at Marty Adelstein’s Tomorrow Studios, I reckon it won’t be any time soon. The word now is that Oda, Shuesha Inc. and the studio are partnering for a live-action television drama instead, in news as reported over at Japan Times in the wake of the manga’s twentieth anniversary celebration. Sweet Alibi helmer Lien Yi-Chi’s latest, Peace Breaker, is officially stamped for an August 18 release in China and a new official trailer is making the rounds. Those keen on Asian cinema will find themselves in familiar territory, with this particular story – taking cues from its hit 2014 South Korean predecessor, A Hard Day, in which a morally bent detective, in the wake of a family member’s death, tries to cover up an accidental crime only to find himself in deeper and deadlier straits. At the age of 94, comic book auteur and mainstay Stan Lee is far from finished with his life’s work as he has a special tribute event called Extraordinary: Stan Lee coming next month. He also reportedly has up to fifty more comic book heroes that he hasn’t revealed yet and surely those announcements will come in due time. For now, he’s celebrating four of them in a new teaser for the upcoming August 18 premiere of The Defenders… or five if you count the guy in black who cameos at the end of the video for his own show to be dated soon. PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING: John Boyega Wants You!

A sequel to 2013 sci-fi action epic, Pacific Rim wasn’t initially an easy milestone to reach. Box office returns were okay but barely enough to get both feet in the door until it was made official as production went underway last year. The news comes in the wake of meeting opportunities between Szeto and Filmworks Company CEO and screenwriter Janice Eymann, along with Beijing Tong Fa Group chairman Tony Cheng and group director/general manager Kent Chen thereafter. Fox’s MEGA MAN Lands Directors For The Live-Action Adaptation

Two years after landing the rights at Twentieth Century Fox, the studio now has Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (Catfish, Paranormal Activity 3 & 4, Nerve) in its corner for a live action adaptation of Mega Man. The two are reportedly in final negotiations to write and direct the film currently in development at Chernin Entertainment with Heroes actor Oka Masi producing. Launching in 1987 from Capcom with Rock Manas its Japanese title, the 8-bit Nintendo franchise focused on the story of Dr. Light, whose work ends up stolen by Dr. Wily and is converted into a squad of evil battle droids with specific skills, with the goal of world domination. In response, Light upgrades his lab assistant, Rock, arming him with a canon and battle armor and software to help absorb the powers of Wily’s droids upon their defeat. Bombshell is a secret government program that recruits the world’s pioneering female celebrities to train as spies. FLUX ACTION: Help Bobby Nickels Craft His Latest Action Shortfilm Medley

In the last few months in Los Angeles, filmmaker and stuntman Bobby Nickels has been producing his own short film titled “Flux Action.” This 15 minute short film runs the gamut of genres – 15 of them – and showcasing his ability to produce a film from start to finish. Looking to raise $5,000 for the rest of the production costs on Kickstarter, Bobby calls this an “ambitious high-intensity, high-impact adventure.” Alex Coulter directs, Laffrey Witbrod is the Director of Photography, and Co-Producers are Patricia Borba and Erin Lee. Co-Director is Danielle Dupree and camera work by Heather Ballish. Bobby is still trying to fill roles for another Editor, Special FX, and war re-enactors.
