COPPERHEAD: Miles Teller-Led Crime Flick Casts Up As Sales Launch Heads For TIFF

Ida Red helmer John Swab’s new movie, Copperhead, is gearing up for a September shoot. International sales label Black Bear is prepping to pitch the film at TIFF this month following the attachment of actor Miles Teller (Whiplash) as of June.
The company is also announcing casting additions including Jason Momoa (Fast X), Tenoch Huerta (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), Adria Arjona (Blink Twice) and Kiefer Sutherland (Brothers Under Fire) join the cast led by Miles Teller. Swab, who scored the Smithers Foundation’s Ambassador of Hope Award at the 81st Venice International Film Festival for 2024’s King Ivory, is directing from a script by Chad Feehan and J. Todd Scott.
In Copperhead, when an undercover drug deal explodes into violence, a veteran detective is forced to team with a young federal agent to unravel the conspiracy within their elite task force.
Black Label is financing the pic. The company is producing next to Teller’s Lime Tree Productions and Swab’s Milk Boy.
CAA Media Finance and WME Independent are representing US Rights.
Momoa, globally known for his role in both Zack Snyder’s DCU as Aquaman and under James Gunn as Lobo in Supergirl, will appear later this year in Dune: Part Three, and in October in Legendary/Paramount’s Street Fighter. He is repped by WME and Edelstein Laird and Sobel.
Huerta has also appeared in The Forever Purge, Güeros, The 33, Bel Canto, Son of Monarchs and Pedro Páramo, as well as Netflix’s The Chosen One to name a few, and will reprise his role as Namor in the upcoming Marvel Studios’s Avengers: Doomsday. He is repped by WME.
Arjona has been seen in Netflix’s Hit Man and Neon’s Splitsville among others, and will also appear in A24’s Onslaught this weekend, and next year’s Man of Tomorrow, and Michael B. Jordan’s The Thomas Crown Affair. She is repped by CAA, Anonymous Content, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and The Lede Company, and Goodman Genow Schenkman.
Sutherland starred in the critically acclaimed Fox drama series “24,” in which he won two SAG Awards for Best Actor in a Drama Series, an Emmy Award, and a Golden Globe Award. Additionally, he was seen starring in the Clint Eastwood directed Warner Bros. thriller, Juror #2, and political thriller series “Designated Survivor”. The actor, who will next appear in Luc Besson’s Father Joe with Al Pacino, and The Horseman with Barry Pepper and C. Thomas Howell, is repped by CAA, Management 360, Wolf Kasteler Public Relations and Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Adler, Feldman & Clark.
