Donovan Marsh To Direct Gerard Butler In HUNTER KILLER This July
South African crime thriller, iNumber Number (a.k.a. Avenged), landed a great spotlight on director Donovan Marsh in 2013 prior to the film’s remake rights acquisition by Universal Pictures the following year. Nowadays, the award-winning filmmaker is expected to pick back up on his craft on July 25 in London when he returns to the director’s chair for the long-gestating film adaptation, Hunter Killer.
The film has quite an enduring development history while at the then-branded Relativity Media as things got contentious between CEO and founder Ryan Kavanaugh and producer Neal Moritz who intially fought to remove the film from its hold at Relativity. That was before the two parties ultimately reconciled in November of late last year before Relativity rebranded itself as Critical Content the following January.
Actor Gerard Butler, tackling London this weekend in Babak Najafi’s London Has Fallen, is set to lead the film along with Gary Oldman from a script by Peter Craig and Jamie Moss based on “Firing Point”, the 2012 novel from Don Keith and retired U.S. Navy Commander George Wallace. Butler, who is producing, will star as Joe Glass, the untested captain of the USS Toledo who must foil a nefarious plot to start World War III by a rogue general holding the Russian president hostage in a sinked submarine a thousand feet below sea level under the polar ice cap.
Also producing are Original Film’s Moritz and producer Toby Jaffe, as well as Tooley Productions CEO Tucker Tooley, Alan Siegel, and Mark Gill according to Deadline.
