DUNE: PART TWO Commences Principal Photography For 2023 Rollout
Cameras are now rolling in Budapest, Abu Dhabi, Jordan and Italy for Dune: Part Two, according to an announcement on Monday. Oscar nominee Denis Villeneuve is back to direct the second installment following the film’s critical and commercial acclaim from its release last year, taking six Academy Award wins including Bests in visual effects and for composer Hans Zimmer’s original score.
Hailing from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Entertainment, Dune: Part Two sees Villeneuve directing from a script he co-wrote with Jon Sphaits, continuing his adaptation of Frank Herbert’s acclaimed bestseller. The film centers on the interplanetary upheaval over spice on the desert planet, Arrakis, wherein the fate of Paul Atreides, the noble son of the House Of Atreides, will be decided as a war looms between an evil Baron and the warrior dwellers of Arrakis.
As the studio describes it, the sequel “will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”
Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet and Emmy winner Zendaya are back to lead the cast alongside Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar winner Javier Bardem, Oscar nominee Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling and Stephen McKinley Henderson, with Elvis star Austin Butler joining as the notorious Feyd Rautha, and Christopher Walken as the Emperor. Florence Pugh, Léa Seydoux and Souheila Yacoub round out the extensive ensemble cast.
Villeneuve is producing with Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Tanya Lapointe and Patrick McCormick. Exec producing are Josh Grode, Herbert W. Gains, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Kim Herbert, Thomas Tull, Jon Spaihts, Richard P. Rubinstein and John Harrison, with Kevin J. Anderson serving as creative consultant.
Oscar-winning director of photography Greig Fraser is back as director of photography next to three-time Oscar-nominated costume designer Jacqueline West and Oscar-nominated makeup, hair and prosthetic designer Donald Mowat. Zimmer is back on scoring duties for the film as is Roger Yuan as fight coordinator, with Oscar-winning production designer Patrice Vermette, Oscar-winning editor Joe Walker, three-time Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor Paul Lambert and Oscar-winning special effects supervisor Gerd Nefzer also on board.
Dune: Part Two will release worldwide on November 17, 2023, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Entertainment.
