The film takes place in a future dystopia where a man-made virus fails to clamp down on the world’s population, a preamble which then sees imprisoned Yakuza hitman Hiro (Pang), forced to compete in a death game with other prisoners while the rich place their bets.
Marwa took to the podcast to allude to a possible release starting in May with extenuating plans toward a possible Netflix acquistion by then.
“At some point, Netflix will acquire the movie.” said Marwa. “That will be a worldwide release on Netflix. So, any territories that it doesn’t come out in, it’ll go on Netflix.”
The Birmingham filmmaker’s previous plans to direct Blood Rush, as has been previously reported, still remain in place with current cast members still attached, according to Marwa. That also includes the film’s star, Zack Lee (The Raid 2, Headshot, The Night Comes For Us), who’s been with the project since its Indiegogo push earlier last year additionally casting Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif Rahman (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, The Raid films).
Marwa made it clear that beyond Blood Rush, Lee is still very much a prospect going forward, revealing plans to possibly bring him on board for a sequel to Exiled, which Marwa further stated was greenlit a few days earlier by the film’s producers, including Djonny Chen of Silent D Pictures.
“I actually spoke to Zack Lee this morning and he was like, ‘Get me in Exiled 2.'” Marwa says nearing the fifty-seven minute mark. “So, Exiled 2 is officially greenlit. I can say that.”
Exiled: The Chosen Ones also stars Hannah Al-Rashid, Oka Antara, Nisaro Karim, James Jay Bryhan and Nick Khan who also served as action choreographer next to Pang. There are no present plans to film the sequel as Marwa stays the course with its development among other projects, namely this summer’s production of Sunny Pang sword-slasher, Blind Rage, and Wolves.
