FONZO: Josh Trank To Direct Tom Hardy In Capone Gangster Drama
Chronicle helmer Josh Trank may not have earned a lot of favor with his most recent efforts on Fantastic Four, but he’s moving on and switching gears a bit with news out of Berlin following the annoucement of gangster drama, Fonzo. Pre-production is this summer with cameras slated to roll this Fall and with none other than Legend and Mad Max: Fury Road star, Academy Award® nominee Tom Hardy landing the title role.
A ruthless businessman and bootlegger who ruled Chicago with an iron fist, Alfonse Capone was the most infamous and feared gangster of American lore. At the age of 47, following nearly a decade of imprisonment, dementia rots Alfonse’s mind and his past becomes present as harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life.
“I love the script and have full confidence in our director, Josh Trank,” said Gilbert. “With great partners in A Band Apart and Addictive; and one of the greatest actors of our time in Tom Hardy; I couldn’t be more thrilled about this group coming together.”
Hardy, currently starring in BBC1 series, Taboo, and will appear in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk this June, is also confirmed to star in J.C. Chandor’s action thriller, Triple Frontier for Paramount Pictures. He is represented by Management 360, WME, and Mitch Smelkinson.
