JOLT: Kate Beckinsale Leads Revenge Action Comedy From ‘Hysteria’ Director
Hysteria helmer Tanya Wexler’s recurring career in comedic film and TV direction will continue going forward with Millennium Media on action pic, Jolt, according to Andreas Wiseman at Deadline.
Underworld franchise and Total Recall actress Kate Beckinsale who recurs on ITV/Amazon series, The Widow, is set to lead the pic as it centers on a badass bouncer who sets out to avenge the murder of the only guy she’s ever fallen for. The catch: she must control her homicidal rage or withstand being jolted by the electrolined vest she wears to keep her in check.
“Jolt is a kick-ass and painfully funny script,” Wexler said. “When I saw that Kate Beckinsale was attached to play the lead, I jumped at the opportunity to make the movie. This is the movie for right now — a revenge-action film for every woman (and man) who wants to turn their inner ‘Thelma & Louise’ up to 11.”
Made In Berlin scribe Scott Wascha penned the film with Millenium’s David Bernardi and Les Weldon producing next to Sherryl Clark (Cloverfield). Executive producing is Avi Lerner for Millenium Media along with Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, Jeffrey Greenstein and Jonathan Yunger as cameras ready a July start.
Millennium’s Greenstein added: “Jolt is just that: a shock to the system, and this film promises to be a wicked cocktail of action, humor, and style. I believe that this is the start to a fun franchise, and I am eager to see our director Tanya Wexler and star Kate Beckinsale bring this badass character and story to life. And it’s great to team up again with our friend and talented producer Sherryl Clark.”
