Action star Jean-Claude Van Damme has had quite the career sustaining himself as a bonafide action hero in both mainstream and direct-to-video markets. He’s one that fans amply love, specifically having left the impression he has with hits like Bloodsport, Kickboxer and Timecop, as well as Sheldon Lettich’s 1991 thriller, Lionheart (a remake of the 1975 Charles Bronson film, Hard Times) which saw him as a former legionaire who goes AWOL and returns to his impoverished neighborhood to fight for his late brother’s struggling family.
Lo and behold, if you’ve been tuning in for the last several years, you know that a few of the aforementioned titles are up for remakes of their own, and apparently as of 2014, the list also includes
Lionheart which was once tasked to Albert Pyun who directed Van Damme’s earlier 80’s sci-fi classic,
Cyborg. Fast forward to 2016 and word is now circulating through
City On Fire that
Falcon Rising producer, Moonstone Entertainment’s own Etchie Stroh is attached to produce a remake of the film which is reportedly rolling cameras later this year.
Casting and crewing are still left to be done, but the prospects of remaking a Van Damme film isn’t something all fans may be in favor of; John Stockwell’s Kickboxer: Vengeance seems to be paying off greatly with buyers so there appears to be some hope, and so we’ll see how that effort pays off later this year with actor Alain Moussi leading the film as well as its developing sequel.
As for Lionheart, who would you like to see starring? Comment below!
