I’m not at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, and largely because I live too damn far and don’t have the means to travel.
However, if you live in the area and managed to get inside to check out the action packed panel for
Mortal Kombat Legacy: Season 2, chances are you got to hear from the cast, as well as receive some pretty exclusive treatment courtesy of director
Kevin Tancharoen. The panel also included franchise co-creator and Netherrealm Studios creative director
Ed Boon producer
Lance Sloane, along with select cast members
Ian Anthony Dale,
Samantha Jo,
Casper Van Dien and
Brian Tee. Although not for the Mortal Kombat Legacy 2 panel, Season 2 co-star and actor
Eric Jacobus was also
in attendance promoting his latest projects, including
Rope A Dope and the latest
Japanese release of his latest 2012 co-production with Action Pact Entertainment,
Death Grip.
The dialogue at the panel had a lot of emphasis on the prevalence of the highly acclaimed fatalities in season two. Fatalities are a top line feature for fans of both the game, but the director also expressed the importance of illustrating the relationships between several pairings of the characters, such as
Scorpion/Sub-Zero,
Kitana/Mileena, and
Liu Kang/Kung Lao. As Kevin states in his interview with
Polygon,
“For the second season, I wanted to push the limits a bit in the storytelling of the characters,”. In that same interview,
Ed Boon shared his excitement for what he perceived is a “reinterpretation” of some of the characters, saying
“We’re retelling the origins of the characters. Sometimes it’s consistent with the games and sometimes it’s a different spin, which I find very interesting. I don’t think we should keep repeating the same story, especially as we are doing something more contemporary now.”
*WARNING: If you click the link for IGN, there are spoilers, so open it at your own risk.
A first-hand report at IGN states that third season is likely to happen with the hopes that the character Sonya Blade will return since first appearing in the first two episodes of Season One through actress Jeri Ryan, granted that her schedule will be open. Also joining the third season are Mortal Kombat faves, the ginormous four-armed half-human/dragon Shokan warrior Goro, and the former Black Dragon member-turned rogue warrior, Kabal, provided an official announcement is made. IGN also reported the details regarding one of the fight scenes that were shown from the series in the link above.
Hence, the disclaimer. 😉
No other reports are available regarding the series, or even the upcoming movie (details I have learned can be read
HERE) except what you may have been able to catch so far, although there are several bits of footage you’ll likely find on Youtube.
Stay tuned for updates.
