Streaming Sleepers: TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN Comes To Hi-YAH!
Well Go USA’s streaming imprint, Hi-YAH! is well underway with its March releases. That includes Friday’s launch of Soi Cheang’s live-action adaptation of Twilight Of The Warriors: Walled In, starring Raymond Lam, Terrance Lau, Louis Koo, and Sammo Hung.
Based on the novel by “Yuyi” and the manhua by Andy Seto, the film centers on a refugee struggling to make ends meet in Hong Kong. On the run from a vicious gangster after being conned, he seeks sanctuary in the notorious former British enclave where he learns to co-exist, claiming a renewed purpose along with his newfound brotherhood as a new threat to the innocent families within the Walled City arises.
The film also stars Richie Jen, German Cheung, Tony Wu, Philip Ng, and Kenny Wong, with a cameo appearance by Aaron Kwok, and with action sequences by Kenji Tanigaki.
Current accolades include Best Film at the 31st Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards, as well as the Stunt Award at the 29th Satellite Awards back in December. Results are also pending for current nominations at the 18th Asian Film Awards later this month, as well as the 43rd Hong Kong Film Awards in April.
Two follow-up films have since been greenlit as of last summer, with Kwok expected to reprise his role in prequel fashion. Reviews are up courtesy of myself and co-contributor Shaun Williams who also talked up the film over at his official FuForThought YouTube channel.
Twilight Of The Warriors: Walled In is now streaming on Hi-YAH!, and subscriptions are just $2.99 a month. Check it out now!
