The summer movie season became much more fortuitous in the last several months. Sony Pictures’s campaign for Sicario 2: Day Of The Soldado deliverer a massive second trailer ahead of a June 29 release, signaling an exciting new crime sequel that reintroduces Benecio Del Toro and Josh Brolin to their respective roles in accordance with new plot twists and layers that only up the ante from that of the first film. Sony Pictures Denis Villeneuve’s 2015 crime opus, Sicario, was a solid piece of work from its premiere at Cannes that year through subsequent rollouts in December and following January. It’s sequel has already begun its campaign and already looks to fare just as excellent, if not better this year with Stefano Sollima at the helm, and the brilliant penning of screenwriter Taylor Sheridan to credit once more. Director Denis Villeneuve‘s latest crime pic, Sicario, has had a fantastic run this year with rave festival reviews and approval from critics since then. The film is currently rolling out in select theaters as of last week with box-office figures currently standing at $401,288 with over $66,000 on average per screens since then, which stands as good news for Lionsgate before releasing the film in more cities leading up to a wide release on October 2. For this, the prospects of a sequel remain positive for actor Benecio Del Toro whose depiction of the mysterious character, Alejandro, is reportedly being developed for one, according to Variety. Director Denis Villeneuve will be the one handling the upcoming Blade Runner sequel, which will undoubtedly immerse itself in a realm far from the lesser-glazed and gritty, violent and grounded tone for his latest crime pic, Sicario. Nonetheless, the newest trailer arrived and if it’s any indication after turning heads in Cannes last month, Villeneuve‘s prospects ought to be looking great right about now. SYNOPSIS: In Mexico, SICARIO means hitman. In the lawless border area stretching between the U.S. and Mexico, an idealistic FBI agent [Emily Blunt] is enlisted by an elite government task force official [Josh Brolin] to aid in the escalating war against drugs. Led by an enigmatic consultant with a questionable past [Benicio Del Toro], the team sets out on a clandestine journey forcing Kate to question everything that she believes in order to survive. I’m kind of a fan of former Goonie, actor Josh Brolin. No, I haven’t Spike Lee’s version of Oldboy yet, and I will, eventually. But I don’t really feel like he’s gotten his just dues as an actor, although he has earned some approval among filmgoers and film producers on the level, so much so that he was once a named candidate for the role of Bruce Wayne in the then-untitled Batman V. Superman movie. Furthermore, I have also enjoyed seeing him on screen since appearing in films No Country For Old Men, American Gangster and Gangster Squad – films that didn’t need to rely heavily on special effects to appeal to me as opposed to just applying human talent through acting and physical performance.
