SDCC 2015: Studios Considering Keeping Leaked Exclusive Footage Unreleased
Like all movie sites and blogs therein, there’s a certain limit to the content I share which embodies my own guidelines differently from how other blogs operate. One such rule includes not making a habit of sharing smartphone footage taken from specific events like this weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con where attendees gained exclusive access to merchandise and exposure to a number of things, including the bustling slate of movies where Warner Bros. stayed on deck to present sizzle reels for their films, including David Ayer’s forthcoming DC Entertainment property, Suicide Squad.
Like everyone interested, I can’t wait to see the footage being shared. Unfortunately, there’s a price to be paid with the nature of netizens and all their fandom with the way things go viral once leaked. Studios are very strict about these things which is personally frustrating to me because I would rather they just unveiled the footage online so everyone who can’t afford a plane ticket and a weekend stay at a hotel to go to a convention can be able to see and share in the excitement everyone else gets to feel; Hell, I’ve only ever gotten to attend one convention in my life and that was in New York City in 2004. I shook Peter Mayhew’s hand – highlight of my life right there!
Alas, it doesn’t look very good for the Comic-Con crowd this weekend either. I just prepared a draft for a possible online unveiling of the Comic-Con trailer for 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool and now word from Deadline suggests the notion that studios might be pulling back from not only releasing Comic-Con footage online, but also showcasing exclusive footage to Comic-Con audiences altogether. Furthermore, Sue Kroll from Warner Bros. who had this to say about the leaked Comic-Con teaser for Suicide Squad:
“We have no plans currently to release the Suicide Squad footage that leaked from Hall H on Saturday. It’s unfortunate and ultimately damaging that one individual broke a long-standing trust we have enjoyed with our fans at the convention by posting early material, which, at this point, was not intended for a wider audience. We are still in production on Suicide Squad, and will have a big campaign launch in the future. Our presentation yesterday was designed to be experienced in that room, on those big screens!”
As much as I hate that studios hold out like this and would rather just release the footage since it’s going to go viral anyway, I respect that they might…just MIGHT have reasons for not doing so. Simultaneously, it’s also sad that as much as Comic-Con audiences are being trusted, they simply refuse to respect rules being applied to them – I’d like to think that doing so would allow studios to be a little more lenient when officially releasing footage for blogs to write about in clarity. Plus, the last thing I want to see is some tiny, shitty ass screen blurring all the content filmed from a low-angle with some dude walking in front of the lens. And the funny thing is that some people would have the audacity to call me ungrateful for that.
No, no. Fuck you. At best here, gratitude should be observed by the very people who are simply asked to do one specific thing – DON’T RECORD THE FOOTAGE.
Yeah, I’ll say it: As it stands, the people failed, not the studios. Sure, they could just release these trailers and let that be that, but this also exemplifies the sheer lack of responsibility that a certain portion of these Comic-Con goers feel when it comes to rules, merely believing that just because they can bring their phones in, the rules don’t apply to them.
Well, judging by appearances here, the studios are about to fix that. Otherwise perhaps this will implure you to tell your Comic-Con neighbor to put their phone away. My two cents here.
Suicide Squad opens on August 5, 2016. As for a teaser for this film and apparently the February 12, 2016 release of Deadpool, I guess we’re getting it when Warner Bros., Marvel and 20th Century Fox are damn good and ready.
QUESTION: Do you think studios should be lenient and simply release the footage they show at Comic-Cons? Or are they correct in dialing back from lack of trust? Comment below and say your peace!

THE HIT LIST – May 25, 2015
Glad I took my time in getting this Hit List together with all the videos and pics to display. Its been a busy week for me so I hope this will suffice. I should, right?
Josh Boone To Direct X-Men Spin-Off, THE NEW MUTANTS, For Fox
Time will tell what the future holds for Professor Charles Xavier and his team of heroic mutants when Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse arrives next year in May. In the meantime, Fox is reportedly devloping a spin-off from their current franchise titled The New Mutants, and has officially closed a deal with The Faults In Our Stars helmer Josh Boone to write and direct.
In 1982, Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod created the first team of which there are three, with the other two from seperate creative groups in 2003 and 2009, continuing the saga centered on the stories of young mutants trained at Xavier’s School For The Gifted. The project is yet another add-on to the studio’s own handling of the live-action translation of the X-Men franchise since Singer boarded X-Men in 2000, as at least a few more titles are active in some capacity at Fox, including the current production of Deadpool and earlier mentions of Jeff Wadlow’s attachment to X-Force – the later iteration of the Claremont/McLeod New Mutants installation.
At least one rumor as of last month was that X-Men: Apocalypse would cap-off Singer’s end of the X-Men cinematic universe at Fox while franchise lead actor Hugh Jackman sends off his iconic role as character Logan in a third Wolverine film under James Mangold for 2017. Bearing all this in mind, this could bring some validity to a new volume of stories for the X-Men saga. Seven films in under different directors, the current franchise has done well for itself in contributing to well over a decade of superhero movie as we’ve moved over into a new age of fandom with Marvel’s MCU and Warner Bros. with their DC Comics slate among others, and with plenty more stories in the cards, including a live-action return to television in the works, clearly Fox has no intentions of letting go of what so far works.
Boone, who has a few other projects on his plate for the next few years, will co-write The New Mutants with Knate Gwaltney with returning X-Men franchise producers Simon Kinberg will produce with Lauren Shuler Donner also on board. Two other Marvel/X-Men properties are also on deck, with Donner helping spearhead a live-action Gambit film while director Tim Miller currently rolls cameras for actor Ryan Renyolds as Deadpool for February 12, 2016.
Singer recently announced the upcoming release of X-Men: Days Of Future Past – THE ROGUE CUT, which will release on July 14 on Digital HD marking the 15-year anniversary of the theatrical release of the film that started it all, X-Men.

Ed Skrein Confirms Killer Role In DEADPOOL
Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
Tim Miller's DEADPOOL Gets A Synopsis
Sounds pretty tight. Check back for more info on Deadpool, and remember to follow Renyolds on Twitter for more magical moments by the campfire…or not.
Ed Skrein In Talks To Star In DEADPOOL With Ryan Renyolds
Think what you will of actor Ed Skrein in place of Jason Statham for the upcoming trilogy reboot, The Transporter Legacy. Sure, it’s not Statham, but knowing promise in store for another actor to take the helm in a prequelized setting could open the floodgates for something fresh and even possibly better, particualrly for Skrein‘s career following his stint on Game Of Thrones.
For this, we now learn that the actor is currently forging a path through talks with 20th Century Fox for the forthcoming first of the studio’s three planned X-Men universe movies for 2016, director Tim Miller‘s Deadpool, starring Ryan Renyolds. We also learn that Transformers: Age Of Extinction co-star T.J. Miller is up for a role, and while the details aren’t being made public just yet, report are already hinting that Skrein and Miller may be up for the respective villain and comedy roles, and some sites like Cinema Blend have a few ideas. Needless to say, speculation is all we have until then.
It’s another pretty good year for action movies regardless of how you feel, and hopefully many of current expectations will be met with some upworthy reviews. Skrein very well could be the next face of action cinema in the same vein of Statham circa 2002, so hopefully Deadpool will be an extension of that come February 12, 2016.

DEADPOOL Lands Ryan Renyolds In Final Stages Of Talks
Thursday’s report from Deadline finally confirmed that actor Ryan Renyolds was in the last stages of talks to star in the forthcoming comic book adaptation of Marvel’s Deadpool. Tim Miller is set to direct from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick with a release date currently set for February 12, 2016.
Renyolds‘s voice is but one of many among fans who have advocated for the classic “Merc With A Mouth” character to get his own film since the actor initial fitting performance in the 2009 film, X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The call became further amplified when a short demo video from mo-cap performance lab, Blur Studios, leaked online featuring Renyolds in probably one of the most action-packed, best received happy accidents of the internet in 2014, which finally brought the studio to greenlight the movie back in September.

With the wheels now spinning, Deadpool will likely be part of Fox’s continuing Marvel X-verse, which fascinatingly remains seperate from Disney’s Marvel franchise while some fans continue hoping for some kind of Avengers/X-Men/Spider-Man crossover, which seems unlikely, to say the least.
Deadpool also joins a few other productions well on the way from the studio, including Channing Tatum’s own lead role in Gambit, and developments for the appearance of time-traveling future soldier, Cable in relation to earlier announcements for X-Force.
In the meantime, production on Deadpool will begin this March, and R-Rating may still be in the cards, but I wouldn’t advise drawing that conclusion just yet since it precedes the likely PG-13 release of Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse the following May, so watch this space!
Comikaze ’14: Rob Liefeld Talks DEADPOOL With Mention Of A 'Cable' Movie
This year’s fourth-annual Comikaze in Los Angeles was just where you wanted to be if you wished to learn more about 20th Century Fox’s upcoming Deadpool film, based on the Marvel character from Rob Liefeld who sat on stage to discuss a little bit about the process behind getting the film going. The film has taken about four years or so to come to fruition having shot some outright juicy concept footage with VFX whiz Tim Miller in the director’s chair and actor Ryan Renyolds giving a rather well-received all-around performance at Blur Studios.
As time would prove much later, however, said footage remained locked away at the prominent motion-capture studio without anyone ever knowing how awesome a job they did beyond their walls until it was finally leaked online earlier this year, and much to Liefeld’s own approval at that. “…Cut to that footage is in the locker for three years…three years, and god bless whoever leaked that.” says Liefeld, in part. “Whoever leaked it and goes to jail, we need to cheer them…”
The character himself has had a few screen appearances, but eventually grew a more popular audience Renyolds embracing the character in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and the actor has been one of the biggest proponents for getting the character his own standalone feature film ever since. That being said, after years of languishing in development hell, the film was finally greenlit back in September with a release date set for February 12, 2016, with further details needed on whether or not the film would be getting an R-rating in favor of fans’ demands, or fall in line with the rest of the comic book movie community with a PG-13 rating.
Of course, things are never official until they are *quote fingers* “official”, which is the current case for whether or not Renyolds himself will don the black and red and all of Deadpool‘s arsenal of heavy metal and quick-wit. Needless to say though, it’s pretty obvious by now, especially to Liefeld. “Ryan is Deadpool.” he asserted. “Look, Ryan Reynolds, he’s gone through that same career arc, the guy is ridiculously talented. He has a huge, huge passion for Deadpool. Deadpool’s not happening, because he was a giant star, they said, ‘Ryan, what do you want to do?’ And he said, ‘Deadpool.’ That’s why it happened. They would have no faith otherwise. That movie is because of his passion. He put together the team.” He then added to the anticipation by letting the audience in on what they can expect from the film compared to Blur Studios’ footage, saying “That’s nothing of what you’re going to see.”
In that same discussion earlier on, Liefeld also shared a few more highlights on the possible future of a standalone film for Marvel’s fellow futuristic time traveling supersoldier, Cable. The character was initially slated as part of an ensemble line-up for 20th Century Fox’s pending X-Force movie from writer and hopeful director Jeff Wadlow. And though further details are yet to be revealed about Deadpool‘s status in the film, Liefeld managed cleared some things up, sharing the moment when he sat with producers to discuss the future of Marvel’s big screen adaptations. “…So I sat there with a bunch of producers, and we sat for several hours, and we talked about different ideas.” said Liefeld. “And I tried to steer them in directions I think. For instance, I’ll tell you, first question they said, ‘Rob, does Cable need to be in the Deadpool movie?’ And I said, ‘No, Deadpool deserves his own function and Cable should come in in his own movie.’ And they were like, ‘Ok, because we were thinking about…’ And I was like, ‘No, you can do them both separately. They don’t need to be in the same movie.’ Look, we had a long talk, we had some ideas, I can’t share them, some of them made it across the finish line.”.
Though it may not be clear about just how 20th Century Fox will handle these properties, just a few things do seem certain: Much like Channing Tatum’s Gambit, Deadpool, and with any luck, Cable, may very well get their own screentime in individual films long before any ensemble projects are made. Furthermore, also worth noting is what the Marvel flick producer and screenwriter for Fox, Simon Kinberg, stated earlier this month with regard to whether or not Deadpool‘s spin-off would fit into the studio’s currently growing X-Men universe, to which he answered in part “There’s definitely a sort of overall plan that we’ve all been talking about for the X-Men universe now,” Kinberg said, “and Deadpool obviously fits into that.”
Sounds pretty convenient considering that the film will arrive just three months shy of Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse on May 27, 2016. As for all things Cable and recent murmurs of a Quicksilver standalone flick, we can pretty much expect to wait a little longer on some info there.
QUESTION: Which actor would you like to see cast as Cable in a forthcoming standalone film? Comment below!

Channing Tatum's GAMBIT Movie Gets The Greenlight And A Screenwriter
The ever-expanding Marvel movie multiverse has been on a warpath this year with its amazing franchises already coming into fruition. The work currently being done with Tim Miller’s Deadpool and Marvel’s 2015 Netflix line-up, in addition to talks of a female spidey feature film, as well as the possible revival of semi-human vampire hunter, Blade, and L.L. Cool J’s most recent Tweet boasting a future Marvel role have pretty much overshadowed that of the recent announcement Warner Bros. made for its own superhero line-up a few weeks ago; They’re catching up, but in the eyes of comic book fans in both camps, apparently not fast enough.
That said, it remains to be seen what the future of the X-Men saga from 20th Century Fox will hold, although we already have a pretty gnarly idea about the possibilities in that regard. However, we have heard little on what will entail for actor Channing Tatum‘s part in an upcoming standalone push for fellow X-Men member and rogue mutant, Gambit, and the studio is keeping it that way. Fortunately for us, there are signs of life with official word from Deadline that the film has a new scribe in the form of Josh Zetumer. In addition, the report also brings word that the film has officially been greenlit for Tatum, currently on the way with sequel stripper dramedy Magic Mike XXL, attached to star.
Zetumer is prolifically known for providing the script for this year’s Robocop reboot from director José Padilha. I argued a balanced case in defense of that film which garnered its share of mixed reviews back in February as PG-13 reinterpretation that didn’t fully live up to the standards in the eyes of many who saw the R-rated first film. Considering we’re in PG-13 territory now, there’s probably less room for scruitiny to say the least, which if course isn’t to say there’s plenty of room to make a crappy film. Besides, Channing Tatum is a good actor and comes off as someone who really loves the character as he’s so expressed in many earlier reports online, so if he’s the one to be Gambit, it deserves justice with the right director and the right vision for the action and story to accommodate his cinematic re-emergence in superhero atmosphere since 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Tatum is also producing with Reid Carolin, Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg, the latter who wrote The Fantastic Four reboot for next year’s release and is also producing 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse. Stay tuned for more info.
Kinberg: DEADPOOL Will Fit Into The X-Men Universe
Producer and screenwriter, Simon Kinberg (Elysium, X-Men: Days Of Future Past) has largely been the go-to for plenty of micro-updates on what fans can currently expect for forthcoming blockbuster films, particularly X-Men: Apocalypse and Fantastic Four. As of late though, the news circuit is also seeing a growing share of news bits giving some steam to the upcoming production of the newly announced Marvel adaptation, Deadpool, to be directed by Tim Miller.
One such update now lends credence to the probability that the film will fall under the umbrella of Marvel’s X-Men universe, according to Kinberg in statements forwarded by Comic Book via CBM. This is quite peculiar, and mainly because leading man Hugh Jackman decapitated him in an the epic final battle alongside Liev Schreiber’s performance as Sabretooth in the 2009 film, X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This is also means tying said film in to the new movie, a formula that director James Mangold avoided when sitting in the chair for last year’s release, The Wolverine, so this may (or may not) impact the universal storytelling process in some capacity. Nevertheless, Kinberg says there’s a grand scheme in play right now to help make it all fit.
“There’s definitely a sort of overall plan that we’ve all been talking about for the X-Men universe now,” Kinberg said, “and Deadpool obviously fits into that. So yeah, I guess I would say it’s part of certainly an overall timeline and thought process that goes into these films, some of which is inspired by the comics and some which is inspired by seeing what Marvel’s done with telling a larger tapestry and linking all those movies together, even as they stand independently as well. The same kind of thought is going to go into these X-Men movies at Fox.”
This also presents a few questions, the most obvious one being how in the hell does Deadpool come back from the dead? Sure he’s got some wicked healing powers to accompany his particular set of skills, but it’s still a question worth asking since the last thing many fans want to see is for this film to fall part without any cohesive storytelling (let alone a PG-13 adaptation for a project that was once promised an R-rating).
Another thing also worth looking at is if whether or not writer and director Jeff Wadlow is going to use the same tie-in formula going into the development of his next film, X-Force. He and comic book creator Rob Liefeld have already stated Deadpool‘s inclusion in the film, of which Cable, Psylocke and Colossus are also frontrunners for the five-member team. In this case, I wonder if he, Miller, Deadpool scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and the high-ups at Twentieth Century Fox are exchanging notes.
And then, of course, another question worth asking is if whether or not we can expect a Deadpool cameo in X-Men: Apocalypse or the upcoming Gambit film with Channing Tatum. The news is early, really, so of course this is all speculation. But with Deadpool now included in the X-verse, it appears that with Marvel and DC bringing their universes together, as well as the recent announcent of Universal’s Monsterverse, cinematic universes seem to be a thing, which reminds me…I also wonder if Deadpool and Wolverine will get a rematch at some point before Jackman hangs his claws up for good…
Decisions, decisions!
Deadpool is slated for February 12, 2016., while Kinberg is currently producing X-Men: Apocalypse and Fantastic Four for their respective releases on May 27, 2016 and August 7, 2015. Stay tuned for more info!
'Snow White' Writer Evan Daugherty Penning G.I. Joe 3
With Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick moving on from G.I. Joe: Retaliation to the waiting-in-limbo comic book adaptation of characters Deadpool and Venom, production for G.I. Joe 3 will bring screenwriter Evan Daugherty on board. The report from THR comes in roughly three months after director Jon M. Chu announced the film back in July with Retaliation co-stars Bruce Willis and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson confirmed to return, while a writer was still being “narrowed down”.
