It’s been a thing of internet rumor soup for some time now, but all centering on a spin-off for Star Wars mainstay, Obi-Wan Kenobi now appears to be taking shape at long last. Of course, it comes at a pretty hefty time for fans of the Disney/Lucasfilm library who may be somewhat weary of what to expect with the current handling of the new Han Solo standalone film now being overseen by Ron Howard as of June. After garnering praise for her most recent work on The Zookeeper’s Wife starring Jessica Chastain, McFarlane, USA helmer Niki Caro is reportedly being eyed to direct Disney’s own upcoming live-action Mulan film. The film is one of two titles related to the Disney IP with the other being housed at Sony with Alex Graves directing for a late 2018 release. Courtesy of Disney Director Rian Johnson is officially underway with production for Star Wars VIII according to a new report from EW. “There is no better way to propel this franchise into the future than producing quality products,” said Disney CEO Bob Iger. “Filming of Star Wars: Episode VIII, the next chapter of the legendary saga, has just commenced and it will be in theaters December 2017. Lucasfilm/Disney Director Rian Johnson has a huge task on his hands…about $1.8+ billion dollars worth. That’s the figure reportedly earned by J.J. Abrams for his latest, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which pretty much broke almost every record you can probably imagine after opening last month in the U.K. and U.S.. Success notwithstanding, the film did stir the pot with fans in its delivery, speculating over who Daisy Ridley’s Rey really is and such, and the nature of Kylo Ren’s past with respect to the cast along with talk of a delay in production in recent memory. These are all fun questions and convos to have and share and there’s no doubt it’ll get silly as well. There’s no question about it. J.J. Abrams’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens is probably going to break the box office as much as it already broke the internet on Monday. I have no doubts here in any regard though I can imagine Disney and Lucasfilm are just eagerly waiting to start counting the money. For now, we’re counting views and tonight will probably be a huge night for sci-fi nerds only just discovering Monday Night Football upon the release of the new trailer, doing some sure ratings justice for ESPN. Speaking of, you can now check it out below following yesterday’s poster reveal, and purchase your Star Wars marathon and single tickets where and when available. The word from THR suggests Disney is aiming for a live-action adaptation reinstalling its classic 1963 animated feature, The Sword In The Stone with script by Game Of Thrones series writer Bryan Cogman for Brigham Taylor to produce. The original film’s etymology was based on T.H. So… that happened. Apparently Disney isn’t moving forward with its plans for director Joseph Kosnski’s third installation of the Tron franchise according to THR‘s report a few days ago. Tron: Legacy stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde were all set to reprise their roles from the second film that followed actor Jeff Bridges’s performance in the 1982 first, while it was said earlier that production would commence in Vancouver, British Columbia this October with actor Jared Leto also starring. I don’t know what this says about the chances of a third as I’ve been looking forward to it myself; The film’s cancellation comes just after director Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol helmer Brad Bird’s latest contribution, Tomorrowland fell hugely short of expectations at the box-office. What do Warner Bros., Sony, Disney, and Lionsgate have in common nowadays? Robin Hood on the brain. Do we really want to hop on this bandwagon again? It seems to me that the British character has been done to death so many times that it’s been seeped into parody like the 1993 Mel Brooks version, Men In Tights. Or perhaps on television you remember When Things Were Rotten (1975). That one had Dick Gautier and Misty Rowe as Robin and Marion. Tron: Legacy Director Joseph Kosinski Will Follow Suit To Helm TRON 3

Well, it was only a matter of time I suppose, but Tron: Legacy and Oblivion helmer Joseph Kosinski is reportedly being tapped to sit in the director’s chair for a third installation of the Tron trilogy. The news comes just after Tuesday’s report stating a third film was set to begin shooting this October in Vancouver. Garrett Hedlund is likely to return to the grid once more following his role in the 2010 sequel, Tron: Legacy, which saw lead protagonist Sam Flynn get sucked into the upgraded virtual world his father, Kevin, once saved so many years earlier from ENCOM’s oppressive Master Control program. Actor Jeff Bridges starred in both films with the first directed by Steven Lisberger in 1982 before returning to produce the sequel with Kosinski directing. Stay tuned for more details! Following the success of his new blockbuster entry into the summer with Godzilla, director Gareth Edwards has been confirmed to direct a forthcoming Star Wars spin-off film. The news comes just as Edwards, whose own take on the classic Toho property broke opening weekend records at the box-office since its release a week ago. Edwards‘ participation also arrives in time as Lucasfilm and Disney have already begun principal photography for the upcoming seventh installment being helmed by director J.J. Abrams who co-wrote the script with Lawrence Kasdan, who in turn, will also scribe Edwards‘ spin-off with X-Men: Days Of Future Past scribe Simon Kinberg.
