Action star Donnie Yen‘s 2014 live-action/CG-hybrid fantasy actioner, The Monkey King, was a huge commercial success earlier this year, breaking first day sales records in addition to becoming the highest-grossing film on Lunar New Year in Chinese movie history to name a few. Since then, production company Filmko announced a sequel that would continue the adventures of the title charactet based on work of late author Wu Cheng’en. However, details on the development of the sequel remain to be seen while its production moves forward this month. Not that these are necessary really, but promotional pictures are always nice to see, and those for Teddy Chen‘s most recent London film festival success story, Kung Fu Jungle, is no exception. The film stars martial arts action hero Donnie Yen as one of the most trusted members of the martial arts community, sent to prison for killing an opponent only to be summoned at the behest of the police when a serial killer targets a number martial artists in the city. Deadly shapes between fighters on opposite sides of the martial code collide in this newest thriller which opens at the end of this week in Hong Kong and China. As far as movie promotion goes, the average Donnie Yen film has that area covered tenfold. The featurettes alone for his latest cerebral martial arts thriller from writer/director Teddy Chen, Kung Fu Jungle, speak highly of the caliber of action Yen is known for, even while recent films have been a general mixture of hits and misses. The news is just breaking at the moment, but apparently director Yuen Woo Ping‘s latest return to the Iron/Crane universe with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2: The Green Legend may not be distributed in regular 2D theaters. Instead, the film will be making its official groundbreaking day-and-date debut on IMAX screens and on Netflix on August 28, 2015. The film will be the first original movie to stream from Netflix in a new deal with The Weinstein Company as per the growing business relationship between the two companies for first-run film content and other programs. Only about a month and a half away from the upcoming release of director Teddy Chen‘s newest Fall action thriller, Kung Fu Jungle, a new featurette is now going viral showcasing actor Wang Baoqiang. The featurette is a mixed bag of clips illustrating Baoqiang‘s range as an actor, from comedy to action, and merges about fifty five seconds in to share highlights from his upcoming role as the main antagonist of the film.
