Production On Pyun's THE KICKBOXER: CITY OF BLOOD Pushed Back Until The Fall

It’s been a while since we last heard anything on director Albert Pyun‘s recent efforts pertaining to his upcoming franchise revival, The Kickboxer: City Of Blood. Last reported in January was addition of The Raid 2 co-star and actress Julie Estelle with returning lead, actor Sasha Mitchell for production to begin in Guangzhou, China with ACE Studios overseeing, although from the looks of things now, there appears to be a different story. Casting difficulties and declining health are the summation here for the stagnant pacing of the film according to Pyun’s Facebook post on Monday this week. Well, as far as memories go, one certainly hopes that cult action star Sakaguchi Tak has made his time on the set of his final movie, Re:Born, worthwhile. Catch The New Teaser For Live-Action Manga Feature, S: THE LAST POLICEMAN – RECOVERY OF OUR FUTURE

It was last year that Tokyo Boy helmer Hirano Shunichi put in time as director for the live-action TBS series, S: The Last Policeman. The series, based on the 2009 centered largely on two respective members of Japan’s National Police Safetyrescue and its enforcement squad within, Special Assault Team who put their differing personas aside to work together on numerous counterterrorism missions. This August, the following the 2014 serial run, Hirano now takes the helm at expanding the property with the live-action installation, S: The Last Policeman – Recovery Of Our Future with actors Mukai Osamu and Ayano Go reprising their roles. Series scribe Furuya Kazunao returns to adapt the script based on the work of manga authors Komori Yoichi and Todo Yutaka with Aragaki Yui, Omori Nao and Hirayama Hiroyuki rounding out the current cast.

Fans of actress Michelle Yeoh are certainly looking forward to seeing her in action this August with action star Donnie Yen in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2: The Green Destiny, among other projects. For what it’s worth, I sure look forward to it myself, and I certainly hope Yeoh will be able to make it to the premiere by then. Word from Jaynestars via Chinese media has it that Yeoh and her beau, Jean Todt are reportedly stranded in Nepal with flights cancelled following a massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake on Saturday which has so far left 3,200 people dead. UPDATE: Looks like Singer decided to pull a fast one and remove Kodi Smit-McPhee’s costume debut of Nightcrawler from his Instagram account. Luckily the folks over at CBM have the animation as well as a new picture. This is kickass. Remember independent filmmaker Saman Kesh‘s 2013 shortfilm, Controller? Well, it’s heading to the big screen with word from Deadline that Fox has picked up the rights to Kesh‘s sci-fi action love story set in near-dystopian New Taipei which sees a telekinetic woman held captive as she orchestrates her own rescue through controlling her boyfriend and turning him into an invincible killer. The shortfilm is much more cerebral than it sounds, preceded by the three-minute short, I_U; You’ll know what I mean if you’ve already seen it as it’s since been an online hit through several media outlets, and if not, CLICK HERE to take a look at it for yourself. It’s still getting film festival runs following its premiere late last year at the Urban Action Showcase and Expo, and I’ve since had the opportunity to screen it for myself this week. It’s got it’s flaws, but it does sing a few conceptual high notes. Broken Angels centers on Jeremy Sample who plays Bobby Cheeks, an independent hitman caught in a dangerous love affair with Maia Caligula, the wife of racist mafia boss, Dominic.
