Den Of Thieves 2 isn’t all that’s stirring this week for actor and producer Gerard Butler. Deadline broke news on Thursday for his latest attachment to new action thriller, Afterburn, based on the 2008 Red 5 Comics publication, and with none other than Korean stunt favorite Jung Byung-Gil set to direct as the start of a hopeful new franchise. Butler will play a treasure hunter joined by a highly skilled weapons expert with an agenda of her own as they set out to collect and capitalize off of priceless artifacts in the wake of a massive solar flare that destroys all technology in Europe. Antia Busch over at Deadline is putting the word out that the wheels are officially turning for Den Of Thieves 2 with Christian Gudegast back to direct from his own script. Gerard Butler, who steered the action-packed L.A. set crime tale will return to star along with O’Shea Jackson Jr. with a story following the aftermath of the first film that now sees Jackson Jr.’s role embroiled with the Panther mafia in lieu of an ambitious diamond heist. The news is the result of the first film’s reported overperformance at the box office having so far earned up to $57 million dollars, making it a worthy reward to reap for a 15-year effort from producers Mark Canton and Tucker Tooley. South African crime thriller, iNumber Number (a.k.a. Avenged), landed a great spotlight on director Donovan Marsh in 2013 prior to the film’s remake rights acquisition by Universal Pictures the following year. Nowadays, the award-winning filmmaker is expected to pick back up on his craft on July 25 in London when he returns to the director’s chair for the long-gestating film adaptation, Hunter Killer. The film has quite an enduring development history while at the then-branded Relativity Media as things got contentious between CEO and founder Ryan Kavanaugh and producer Neal Moritz who intially fought to remove the film from its hold at Relativity. Director Babak Najafi appears intent on living up to the fervor left over from Antoine Fuqua’s 2013 White House hostage thriller, Olympus Has Fallen. His newest, London Has Fallen, brings back Gerard Butler as he works to cement his way into action hero history as the next, less grumpy version of John McClaine, now tackling terror on the streets of London where a new threat looms. Aaron Eckhart reprises his role as the American president everyone seems to be trying to kill these days, with actress Charlotte Riley in the role of a British MI-6 agent unbeknownst of who to trust amid the chaos. But be warned, terrorists! If you kill off Eckhart, you’ll have to deal with the convicting voice of his Vice President, actor Morgan Freeman, who will rightly narrate your demise! The film opens on March 4 in the U.S.. Check out the latest trailer!

GODS OF EGYPT Gets A Second Trailer, Still As White And British As The First

Forget everything you know about Egyptians! Lionsgate has its own version of history up and running with the marketing for director Alex Proyas’s new movie, Gods Of Egypt – a film that’s already suffering in the press and for good damn reason. The film is coming out on February 26 with a cast of mostly white actors, along with a Cambodian/French actress and one black actor, and let’s face it: it all really goes uphill from there between the film’s revisionist approach to an ancient African civilization to some pretty questionable visuals. The new trailer is a slight improvement with regard to the latter, but again, this doesn’t account for just how badly this screw up was, and you know that a studio knows it screwed up when it goes on record and apologizes for it. But…whatever. The new trailer is below.

Director Alex Proyas‘s latest, Gods Of Egypt is poised for a February 26, 2016 release which is just three months away. The past year has proven pretty tumultuous for the folks over at Relativity Media and its Chairman and CEO, Ryan Kavanaugh. Financial upheavel stifled several of their forthcoming productions, including Hunter Killer, an adaptation of the 2012 novel, “Firing Point”, co-written by Don Keith and retired U.S. Navy Commander George Wallace as a follow up to their 2003 best seller, “Final Bearing”. Producers, Original Films’s Neal Moritz and Toby Jaffe and Relativity’s Kavanaugh were all set to go until Relativity ended up filing for a Chapter 11 back in August when news of missed loan payments surfaced. It was back in August that Charlie Countryman helmer Fredrik Bond was slated to direct actor Gerard Butler in London Has Fallen, the forthcoming action sequel to last year’s hit, Olympus Has Fallen. Since then, Bond reportedly bailed on the project over a week ago, leaving the production six weeks to find a director. On Sunday, news finally broke that the project may have found a replacement in the form of Babak Najafi, best known for his recent directorial work on the second installment of the Snabba Cash trilogy, Easy Money 2: Hard To Kill. If confirmed, Najafi will follow in the footsteps of filmmaker Antoine Fuqua in lieu of the latter’s opening weekend box office success with The Equalizer starring Denzel Washington.
