Russian/Chinese Adventure Epic, VIY 2, Casts Jackie Chan And Jason Statham

Oleg Stepchenko is currently filming his latest sequel endeavor, Viy 2 following the success of his arduously-produced first film  released in 3D back in 2014 with actors Jason Flemying and Charles Dance starring. As such, set video can be seen online as recently as February featuring action star Jackie Chan’s stunt team on the set of the new film which now adds Rutger Hauer and actress Anna Yao, and now leads to some exciting news that actor Jason Statham will also star. Reportedly the first-ever join Russian-Chinese film production, writer Aleksandr Karpov is back penning the new movie, of which both are inspired by Russian author Nikolai Gogol’s 1835 manuscript of the same name. Director Renny Harlin’s international action comedy, Skiptrace, has been missing for a while with a release once set for last December. A new trailer began circulating in February before news broke that the film would finally release in the U.S. through Saban Films amid waiting for its own domestic release date in Asia. Judging by the latest poster now making the rounds, the date posted for July 22 seems otherwise promising, and a new trailer (largely dubbed in Mandarin) seems to be making the rounds; Chan plays a Hong Kong detective whose path crosses with American gambler (played by Johnny Knoxville) in the wake of a ten year investigation into a notorious crimeboss. Jackie Chan Launches New Film Initiative With Sam Raimi

Any day there’s news about action star Jackie Chan is a good day for Chan fans, and in the wake of a new partnership being announced on Tuesday according to THR. Filmmakers Sam Raimi (Spider-Man trilogy) and Oscar-winning Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (The Tourist) are reportedly joining with Chan’s own company, Sparkle Roll Media to produce two films a year under their new banner, Allegory Films. The deal marks a 60% stake for Sparkle Roll Media’s parent company, Cultural Investment Holdings, which is investing in $150 million, with Raimi and von Donnersmarck’s R&D LLC staking 40% with a $100,000 investment of their own. The former will also release Allegory Films’ movies domestically in China while international distribution will go to a Hollywood company. SKIPTRACE Lands U.S. Distribution

At least four Jackie Chan films await big screen traction as of this year so far. Renny Harlin’s globetrotting action comedy Skiptrace has been the most lingering since its postponed China/HK release late last year and a date is still pending. For now, Chan fans in the U.S. can rest their woes with word among the trades that Saban Films will be releasing the film in theaters sometime in late summer or the proceeding Fall season. Jay Longino and Ben David Grabinski wrote the script which sees Chan playing a Hong Kong detective and an American gambler whose paths cross in the wake of a ten year investigation into a notorious crimeboss. EFM 2016: Jackie Chan Has A Train To Catch In First RAILROAD TIGERS Sales Art

Action star Jackie Chan is currently in London blowing things up with filmmaker Martin Campbell for the tentatively titled action thriller, The Foreigner. In the meantime, things are slowly coming into fruition for his third stint with director Ding Sheng following their recent completion on the Shangdong, China set of Railroad Tigers which adds to four current Chan titles for fans to get excited for this year so far. Releasing this October, Chan headlines with Kai Wang, Huang Zi-Tao, Fan Xu, Wang Da-Lu and Ikeuchi Hiroyuki rounding out the cast with a script by Sheng which puts Chan in the role of a railroad worker leading a team of freedom fighters against the Japanese during World War II. Time Travel Thriller, FATAL COUNTDOWN: RESET, Officially Underway With Jackie Chan Supervising

At long last with a slate of vague viral posters and a teaser now making the rounds, the forthcoming sci-fi thriller, Fatal Countdown: Reset is officially underway from director Chang. Jackie Chan, the most prolific of the crew is on board according to Variety in a “supervisory executive role” for the new Korea/China production that joins actress Mini Yang and actor Wallace Huo in the story of a scientist on a mission to rescue her son from a kidnapper holding him hostage in exchange for her time travel technology. It’s a busy Fall season for action star Jackie Chan in the wake of promoting his newest globetrotting comedy, Skiptrace, with his Abu Dhabi-set Kung Fu Yoga and Ding Sheng’s Railroad Tigers still on deck. Finally on par for a limited theatrical and digital release this Fall is writer and director Daniel Lee‘s latest period epic, Dragon Blade.
