THE SILENT FLUTE: ‘Marco Polo’ Creator Developing Script For Special Limited Series Inspired By Bruce Lee’s Original Work

Richard Moore’s Christopher Lee and David Carradine starrer, Circle Of Iron (1978), is now subject to a revival from former Valiant Entertainment CEO Jason Kothari. I’ve only recently taken notice of the first few episodes of the Netflix original series, Marco Polo starring Lorenzo Richelmy. Granted many of you already have, otherwise Netflix probably wouldn’t have ordered an upcoming special central to co-star Tom Wu’s character later this month, much less a second season as they did back in January. Following its production in Malaysia, Venice and Kazakhstan, The Toronto Sun debut a handful of five new official promo photos for the forthcoming Netflix series premiere, Marco Polo. Actor Lorenzo Richelmy stars in the title role, as the famed 13th Century sailor on his journey from Venice to China. The series comes from executive producer and creator, John Fusco, whose vision for the series is best described as a story filled with “sexual intrigue, political manoeuvring and father-son drama”, infused with martial arts action. Well, it’s been a little over a year since it was reported that The Weinstein Company secured the rights to late Chinese author Wang Du Lu’s Crane/Iron pentalogy which inspired director Ang Lee’s 2000 award-winning Chinese-language wuxia epic, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Needless to say, it was a hit, and fourteen years later, the film is finally getting a sequel in the form of a prequel titled Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2: The Green Destiny. Offering another reason why anyone should have access to Netflix is the brand new nine-episode action adventure series, Marco Polo, which has already begun principal photography set for Venice, Kazakhstan and Malaysia before airing later this year. The news comes following its initial announcement for Starz in 2012 from creator and executive producer John Fusco, prior to its subsequent move to Netflix, in addition to news of an unrelated film currently in development over at Warner Bros.
