Look out for another live-action video game adaptation heading our way from Lionsgate! Word has it from Variety that father-and-son producer duo Avi and Ari Arad are developing a big screen rendition of the hit shooter RPG, Borderlands. The film, based on the game, will take place on the corporate-abandoned planet of Pandora where access to a mysterious vault containing alien technology will ultimately determine life or death for a group of colonial survivors against a burrowing alien menace. Gearbox Software created the game which published in 2009 through Take-Two Interactive Software’s 2K label, selling to the tune of well-over thirty-million copies globally to date. The Pier scribe, Jay Basu has become a studio favorite as of late, having recently been tapped to help pen a flurry of writings including Universal Pictures’s currently-developing cinematic monsterverse following Dracula Untold, and an adaptation of Julie Kagawa’s fantasy action novel series, Talon, last year. Video game movies are still a thing, and Sony is jumping on the bandwagon this week, this time with the attachment of The Kings Of Summer helmer, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts for a live action adaptation of Metal Gear Solid. The film has reportedly been in the works since game director Hideo Kojima’s initial announcement in 2006 and saw a series of ups and downs with several names otherwise rumored for the project, including voice actor, multifaceted filmmaker David Hayter said to be writing the script before those rumors were quelled. I’m not a gamer. Point in fact, the last time I owned a console was a Sega Genesis in the early 1990’s, so I won’t pretend to be at all familiar with the highly popukar sci-fi game Halo. A trailer is yet to be shown publicly for the upcoming serial release of actor and director Joey Ansah‘s latest experiment in live-action fighting game feature-length series, Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist as the business of getting things together for a proper distribution platform rolls on ahead of a much-needed air date.
