Vision Films’ latest order of business now pertains to director Yadhu Krishnan’s new action thriller, Crossfire. The distributor is slating a North American VOD release for May 12 along with a TBA DVD rollout in early June. After a former FBI agent’s wife is killed by a member of an organized crime syndicate, he learns that they are targeting his daughter and will stop at nothing to get to her. The killer gets closer, always seemingly one step ahead, and the father and daughter must prepare for the final showdown to protect everything and everyone that they love. Krishnan wrote and directed the pic which brings The Brave and The Debt Collector 1 & 2 star Louis Mandylor back into the fold. Samm Wiechec also stars in addition to Kevin Gage, Lori Pelenise, Lucia Vilmo, and stuntman Victor Chen. Lise Romanoff, CEO/Managing Director of Vision Films shares, “‘Crossfire’ will keep audiences […]
There’s no easy way to dive into this review for Mark Savage’s newest film, Bring Him Back Dead. I say this, if only for the fact that trying to find the highs amid so many lows makes things all the more difficult in that it stars Gary Daniels, who has long been heralded as one of the most beloved action movie icons of the last thirty-years plus, with a career that ranges between working with the likes of Jackie Chan, Tony Leung Siu-Hung, Isaac Florentine, Albert Pyun, and eventually even Sylvester Stallone to name a few. Hell, the first Daniels film I saw growing up was Riot, and it was a shoe-in for me in the 90s as someone looking for the next thing to consume in the direct-to-video market to hold me down until the next big Van Damme or Seagal spectacle. To this, it’s unfortunate that I have […]
Director R. Ellis Frazier (Repeater) is now two-for-two this week, presenting a look at border crime thriller, Day Labor, which stars Roberto Sanchez, Louis Mandylor and Amy Johnston, and with actor Corin Nemec voicing over exactly the kind of seething villain that feels so prevalent and timely as the film does in whole. The narration definitely doesn’t let up on the ugliness. A Latino American veteran who seeks work as a day laborer in order to keep his family afloat. A regular day turns into a deadly game of survival when he is mistakenly dropped off at a private ranch in El Paso, Texas to be hunted for sport. Also starring are Kevin Gage, David Fernandez Jr., Denitza Garcia, Megan Henry, Armando Zamarripa and Gary Cairns. The film is produced by David Wach and Ojan Missaghi whose Toric Films will be present at the upcoming Cannes Film Market for buyers.
Well Go USA is proudly releasing Jesse V. Johnson’s latest period WWII thriller, Hell Hath No Fury, on Blu-Ray and DVD from December 21. Actress, singer/songwriter and model Nina Bergman (Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (VG), Assassin X, The Wayshower) headlines the new film with a cast that also lists Daniel Bernhardt (The Matrix franchise, John Wick, Atomic Blonde), Louis Mandylor (The Debt Collector, My Big Fat Greek Wedding I and II), Timothy V. Murphy (“Snowpiercer,” “Sons of Anarchy”), former French Foreign Legion Special Forces soldier and knife-fighting technician Dominiquie Vandenberg (Triple Threat, The Mercenary, Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York) and Josef Cannon (Helsing University). HELL HATH NO FURY is the story of one woman who single-handedly takes on the might of the German war machine, the French resistance, and a band of US infantrymen. Branded a traitor by her countrymen, French national Marie DuJardin is rescued by American soldiers on one condition: to survive, she must lead […]
Jesse V. Johnson loves cinema. Working in various levels of film productions since the early 1990s, the English-born filmmaker first made his name as a stunt performer working on such high profile projects as the original TOTAL RECALL, STARSHIP TROOPERS, WAR OF THE WORLDS, and dozens more. This led to Johnson being a stunt coordinator, a second unit director, and eventually an accomplished feature director. Staying true to his stunt background, the films Johnson has directed are action-packed affairs such as THE DEBT COLLECTOR, TRIPLE THREAT, and AVENGEMENT (to name just a few) that value practical effects and physical performers more than expensive CGI-laden spectacle. And throughout his constant climb to get where he is today, recognized as one of the strongest voices in action filmmaking among people who truly value that genre, he has never lost that love of cinema. This fact is abundantly clear when looking at his […]
Principal photography is already underway for Bring Him Back Dead, with a cast that lists Gary Daniels (The Expendables), Louis Mandylor (The Brave) and Daniel Baldwin (John Carpenter’s Vampires). Pic hails from Jeff Miller’s (The Russian Bride) Millman Productions and Korey Rowe’s Otsego Media LLC, as well as Ron Lee Productions and Salem House. In the vein of Sam Peckinpah and Jim Thompson, the gritty BRING HIM BACK DEAD concerns a violent gang of criminals who are ordered, after a botched heist, to track down and eliminate the man who betrayed them and ran off with their loot. Daniels plays the “anti-hero,” while Mandylor portrays the leader of the gang and Daniels a man with mysterious motives. Joining in are Katie Keene (Rogue Warfare), Zhuzha Akova, Ryan M. Shaw, LeJon Woods, and Chris Torem also star. Miller produces along with Cuyle Carvin and Avery Miritello, with Azhar Pasha, Miller, Savage, […]

Tibor Takács (The Gate, Lies & Illusions) is directing the heist revenge thriller which has since wrapped post-production and should have some teaser footage making the rounds in time for Cannes along with any acquisition updates pending by then. Double-crossed by his own people in a hail of bullets and left for dead, Nick survives, and is thrust into a race for his life, seeking revenge one target at a time. Peep the poster below! The following review for Jesse Johnson’s The Debt Collector was originally published on May 28, 2018. Click here to read my review for the sequel, Debt Collectors, out in the U.S. on May 29 from Samuel Goldwyn Films. The past several years have seen quite a bit from stunt multi-hyphenate and filmmaker Jesse V. Johnson. Notable efforts like the classy and cool noir, The Beautiful Ones, and down and dirty action thrillers like Savage Dog and Accident Man have all come to pass as some of the best the genre has put out by far, and not without the measured efforts of our director in his current stride with actor Scott Adkins – a dauntless screen talent with twenty years in film and television – who is a continual quest to break more ground as a prospective mainstream entertainer. It’s a period that’s lasted since before Johnson’s third film, Pit […]
Apart from Samuel Goldwyn’s domain in the U.S., Dazzler Media is coming to U.K. homes with Jesse V. Johnson’s new film regionally titled Payback. The film is already host to swaths of praise from action fans, as well as niche bloggers with early reviews already making the rounds. Johnson directs the film from a script he penned with Avengement and Accident Man cohort Stu Small, following up on the 2018 inaugural hit that featured Louis Mandylor and martial arts action mainliner, actor Scott Adkins; Both leads return respectively as Sue and French, supposedly back from the dead and sooner cornered into a two-day job with three collections to be made in Las Vegas where the truth of their work will ultimately be revealed in a brutal test of friendship and loyalty, and a twisted revenge plot by a ruthless gangster. Save for whatever’s been written elsewhere, I didn’t give the […]
The chances of a continuation after Jesse Johnson’s 2018 film, The Debt Collector, seemed pretty slim given the ending. For Johnson and co-writer Stu Small, it was clearly more then enough to provide the framework for this year’s Debt Collectors, capitalizing off of a suggestive conclusion that paves the way for a second chapter. Our story begins seven months after the events of the first film, and indeed, times have definitely changed for our budding duo Sue (Louis Mandylor) and French (Scott Adkins) in the months that followed their bloody conflict with gangster Barbosa, having since gone seperate ways and getting their wounds patched. Sue’s entrance in a low-level bar cues a surprise reunion for French, whose day job as a bouncer isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Indeed though, French has grown more adept to the hustle and tussle of dealing beatings on a regular basis with unruly […]
Debt Collectors. Plural. Seems there is life after death after all for Scott Adkins and Louis Mandylor, reprising their roles once more from their brutal and witful 2018 venture in sequel reunion with director Jesse V. Johnson helming the storied gangland calamity. Eagle-eyed fans caught on early to the news of a May 15 release which has otherwise now been rerouted instead, to a May 29 releade on VOD, Digital and DVD from Samuel Goldwyn Films. This week, the company rolled out the official trailer to get the chatter going. Debt collectors French and Sue get to work doing what they do best – cracking skulls and breaking bones – as they chase down the various lowlifes who owe money to their boss, Tommy. They’re summoned to Las Vegas to collect from a dirty casino owner, who happens to be a vicious ex-lover of Sue’s. Meanwhile, a notorious drug kingpin […]
A fresh jab at Hollywood character types can be heard amidst the exchanges at the outset of William Kaufman’s new crime thriller, The Brave. For what it’s worth, the banter lends a palpable sampling of just what viewers are in for, amplified by strong performances, compelling interwoven drama, and action that thrills and excites from start to finish. You have to give credence to the possible notion that The Brave is certainly more than a genric cop movie, taking to heart its location, and its history with respect to the concurrent story. An Eastern European nation still recovering from tragedy and civil war after more than two decades, Kaufman’s movie also coheses with a narrative also inspired by a real-life drug raid in the village of Lazarat in 2014. Following a dodgy undercover operation, a team of cops form a special unit led by Rei Cana (Louis Mandylor), and commanded […]
Sometime late last year, Robb Antequera of The Cinema Drunkie sought for the services of several online film reporters, bloggers and willing participants to help contribute to a top fifty list – with sets of ten of our own written summaries – of the previous decade’s best action gems. I contributed about twelve films among which can currently be read among a mix of forty others now opined online as of this article, and in the wake of entries published over at The Action Elite, Action Flix and Bulletproof Action, the series continues below. Hit up the gallery with entries courtesy of screenwriter Chad Law, authors David J. Moore and Mike Fury, and members of The Action Elite, and tune in to Ultimate Action Movie Club for Robb’s final ten.
