Marvel And Netflix To Double Team For 2015
On the eve of the North American 2D/3D/IMAX premiere of Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World, comic book movie giant Marvel is launching its next big step to bring the action home with the aid of digital platform, Netflix.
What’s even more particularly interesting here is that one of the series/mini-series programs will revive the character Daredevil once again since Mark Steven Johnson’s previous 2003 efforts were followed by an abandoned push for the film accompanied by the departure of A-Team helmer Joe Carnahan last year. The characters also listed include Heroes For Hire characters Iron Fist and Luke Cage, the former having been previously reported for a potential live-action feature was planned at one point with actor and martial arts impressario Ray Park, who last expressed his own continued hopes to play the role back in 2009; the latter was also hyped with actors Idris Elba (Pacific Rim) and Michael Jai White (Favela) named as hopefuls for the role of Luke Cage/Powerman.
The news also comes in light of the demise of long-time movie rental delivery outlet Blockbuster, a move that undoubtedly gives platforms like Netflix plenty of momentum to captialize on with digital streaming now in consumer demand. And speaking of momentum, this week’s press release should also shed some light on the current developments of Marvel’s brand new franchise in the form of malleable teenage superheroine Kamala Khan, the company’s first Muslim-American polymorph for Ms. Marvel.
Just when you think Marvel’s plate is full, they’re already asking for seconds and thirds. I think it is safe to say superheroes and movies aren’t going away anytime soon. And if that is the case, well…sorry China.

The Walt Disney Co. and Netflix Inc. today announced an unprecedented deal for Marvel TV to bring multiple original series of live-action adventures of four of Marvel’s most popular characters exclusively to the world’s leading Internet TV Network beginning in 2015. This pioneering agreement calls for Marvel to develop four serialized programs leading to a miniseries programming event.
Led by a series focused on “Daredevil,” followed by “Jessica Jones,” “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage,” the epic will unfold over multiple years of original programming, taking Netflix members deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell’s Kitchen, New York. Netflix has committed to a minimum of four, thirteen episodes series and a culminating Marvel’s “The Defenders” mini-series event that reimagines a dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters.
Produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Television Studios, this groundbreaking deal is Marvel’s most ambitious foray yet into live-action TV storytelling.
“This deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel’s brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel’s specialty,” said Alan Fine, President of Marvel Entertainment. “This serialized epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what’s sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure.”
“Marvel’s movies, such as ‘Iron Man’ and Marvel’s ‘The Avengers’, are huge favorites on our service around the world. Like Disney, Marvel is a known and loved brand that travels,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos. “With ‘House of Cards’ and our other original series, we have pioneered new approaches to storytelling and to global distribution and we’re thrilled to be working with Disney and Marvel to take our brand of television to new levels with a creative project of this magnitude.”
This new original TV deal follows last year’s landmark movie distribution deal through which, beginning with 2016 theatrically released feature films, Netflix will be the exclusive U.S. subscription television service for first-run, live-action and animated movies from the Walt Disney Studios, including titles from Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, Disneynature and Lucasfilm. Netflix members can currently enjoy a wide range of Disney, ABC TV and Disney Channel films and shows across the 41 countries where Netflix operates.

Actress SHARNI VINSON Wants To Be 'Next' To Play 'Lara Croft' And 'Elektra'!
MGM previously announced their partnership with GKFilms development of the Tomb Raider reboot back in March, with GK Films founder Graham King producing. GK Films initially acquired the rights from Square Enix back in 2011. As far as Elektra goes, nothing has been reported on it other than previous talk of a Daredevil that is still up in the air, but with Joe Carnahan no longer attached. Whatever happens though, Vinson definitely has the image to carry both characters, as well as the physicality. And I certainly hope she gets either role or even both.

Frank Castle Returns In The New Shortfilm Trailer For THE PUNISHER: NO MERCY
In less than a year, FOX Television cancelled its previously-reported plans to bring Marvel’s The Punisher to the small screen. And there isn’t much news yet to deliver on anymore major productions involving the character, particularly since everyone is pretty much moving into superhero territory at this point.
Fortunately, the character is still pretty popular from a live action perspective, especially among cult fans of comic book movies and people who are familar with all three films that have been made since director Mark Goldblatt’s theatrical rendition of the Marvel character in 1989, along with Punisher ’04 star, actor, Thomas Jane‘s most recent reprisal in his shortfilm follow-up, Dirty Laundry. If you want proof, then you need not look further than the most recent trailer for the summer’s upcoming shortfilm release, The Punisher: No Mercy, the latest labor of love from the fellas over at the Montreal-based independent film company, The Kombat Krew.
Jason Ambrus directed the shortfilm starring co-writer, co-producer, actor and action director, Shawn Baichoo, a fifteen-year veteran of TV, film, stage combat, voice acting, screenfighting and motion capture for video games including all previous and upcoming Assassin’s Creed games, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and many more. He also has some upcoming projects after this, including one that will be unveiled by Spring of next year.
Shawn says of his experience playing the Punisher, “It was an opportunity to showcase my skills, do something I love, work with talented people and pay my respects to a great character that’s never really gotten his due, in my opinion.”
Rounding out the cast are co-producer Amber Goldfarb, and actors James Malloch and Giancarlo Caltabiano. Davila LeBlanc also served as producer and co-writer.
Check out their trailer below where you can also subscribe to their Youtube channel and follow the shortfilm on Facebook to learn more and stay tuned.

Considering that we are in an age of superhero movies, maybe one day soon we will hear from the people at Marvel about a possible live-action adaptation of the character known as, Black Cat, born and raised in Queens, N.Y. (where I am from) who refused to live as a rape victim and chose to develop a unique skill set that combined her fighting skills with her ability to produce “bad luck” for her enemies.
