Well there’s no Billy Idol here, but the latest official trailer is here for director Neil Marshall’s very much R-rated adaptation of Hellboy coming in April. We have new posters as well but as almost always, there are two versions of the new Hellboy trailer out now – the green band and the red band versions, and you can best believe I’m featuring the latter here. Because we love red-bandy things!
It’s trailer day for Neil Marshall’s upcoming comic book adaptation, Hellboy, and yes, I was despondent and in mourning when we all learned Guillermo Del Toro wouldn’t be doing a threequel with Ron Perlman. I think after all said and done, we can pretty much rest our worries here; As much as we loved the 2004 and 2008 movies, at the very least, the official trailer now online and running jam-packed with energy, action and fun suggests that Marshall smartly tapped into the one thing that ought to pull some disenfranchised disbelievers back into the fray: Tone.
Assuredly Hellboy fans have had time to deal with their grievances over not seeing a third Perlman/Del Toro offering. Frankly I think the excuses are bullshit myself and I share the frustrations, but the good news is that Lionsgate and director Neil Marshall have stayed steady for their focus on keeping the vibe going with some convicing set stills of David Harbour in full costume.
The most recent Hellboy reboot was the shot heard around the comic book fandom, affecting any and all who’ve been fond of Guillermo Del Toro’s treatment of Mike Mignola’s 1993 Dark Horse publication. Further upset was stirred prior to the addition of actor Daniel Dae Kim in the days that followed Deadpool co-star Ed Skrein’s departure following a whitewashing backlash pertaining to a Japanese-American character.
All things now settled and considered, the new adaptation, Hellboy: Rise Of The Blood Queen, hailing from Lionsgate for a January 11, 2019 release, is looking to ease fans’ concerns some with a preferable nudge into better graces. They’ve done so with a few new photos of Strange Things series co-star, actor David Harbour in the title role and in full Hellboy mode as filming began this week. Harbor and Dae Kim are joined by Ian McShane and Sasha Lane with actress Milla Jovovich in the role of our aforementioned villaness of royalty.

The film is about Hellboy going to England, where he must defeat Nimue, Merlin’s consort and the Blood Queen. But their battle will bring about the end of the world, a fate he desperately tries to turn away.
Centurion helmer Neil Marshall is directing from a script by Mignola, and scribes Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and Aron Coleite. Producing are Lawrence Gordon and Lloyd Levin. (Deadline, CBR)
The course is still being plotted for the forthcoming reboot, Hellboy: Rise Of The Blood Queen, as announced back in May. The production has its lead actor in Stranger Things series co-star David Harbour and casting has now confirmed its title villainess in actress Milla Jovovich.
Plot details and specifics are not yet explicitly known while comic book origins detail the history of the Blood Queen with her first appearance in “The Wild Hunt”, the December 2008 publication of the Hellboy comic. Aron Coleite is adapting the screenplay from a previous draft by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola for Neil Marshall (Centurion, The Descent) to direct.
Jovovich is no stranger to blockbuster sci-fi, action and horror with notable credits like The Fifth Element and Ultraviolet. Jovovich went on to star Constantin Films’s adaptation of Capcom zombie thriller, Resident Evil, totaling six movies which spanned fifteen years to date and earning more than $1.2 billion dollars at the box office.
Hellboy: Rise Of The Blood Queen is underway from Millenium Films and Lionsgate, rebooting the popular Dark Horse Comic IP following two live-action adaptations from director Guillermo Del Toro in 2004 and 2008 with Ron Perlman starring. Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin and Mike Richardson producing the reboot with Marc Helwig executive producing. (Deadline)
Action thriller scripting duo Creighton Rothberger and Katrin Benedikt (Olympus Has Fallen, London Has Fallen) are joining the latest production heading into pure revenge-driven sci-fi territory with the new film, The Sentence. Neil Marshall, off the stellar successes of shows like Game Of Thrones and Black Sails, as well as films like post-apocalyptic actioner, Doomsday in 2008 and 2010 period thriller Centurion, is on board to direct the film for Applebox Entertainment.
There are no plot details yet although Deadline has it on good word that film is being developed in the vein of Death Wish, which in and of itself speaks heavily to the action fanbase. In turn, one has to ask who is starring in this film for it it earn such hype? There’s no question that Marshall is a suitable helmer for this project, although can’t think of anyone off the top of my head for who would star. Rest assured, if there’s a suitable actor as badass as the late Charles Bronson was during his time to match the inspired vision, I’m sure they will find him…or her (nothing wrong with a female lead).
EuropaCorp is fully financing the film, and that is all being said about this particular project. Stay tuned for more info!
