Gamers familiar with Krafton’s latest map reveal for the battle royale gaming fave, PUBG: Battlegrounds have been teased of late with a new mini-movie made to promote the game this week. That shortfilm, Ground Of Honor: Rondo is now online with a formidable cast led by Daniel Wu (AMC’s “Into The Badlands”), Sarah Chang (Accident Man: Hitman’s Holiday) and Lee Jung-Jae (Netflix’s “Squid Game”), and from none other than stuntman and action specialist, filmmaker Sam Hargrave (Extraction, Extraction 2). I just watched this myself and was pulled right in, particularly at the end as the story unfolded into an all-out one on one between two of the main stars. Makes you wonder about the more filmic possibilities here… Enjoy!
Brothers George and Harry Kirby just want to entertain fans of action on screen. The pair have done this by directing more than a dozen short films where the main focus is on action and, most importantly, fun. While they honed their craft with these films (and built a sizable online fanbase to boot), George Kirby steadily established a name for himself in the Hollywood stunt industry. His most high-profile work (so far) came as the fight coordinator on the 2021 blockbuster VENOM: LET THEIR BE CARNAGE but he has also been a stunt performer on such major films as ROUGE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY, JUSTICE LEAGUE, and DOCTOR STRANGE. It was during the filming of DOCTOR STRANGE that the Kirby brothers first came to the attention of acclaimed British martial artist Scott Adkins. In them, Adkins found filmmakers with not only a strong visual style but ones […]
Four years after fighting for his life on the mean London streets and away from his former life at the once-flourishing Oasis, hitman-for-hire-turned-free agent “Miguel Fallonado” – otherwise known as the titular “Accident Man” himself, Mike Fallon (Scott Adkins), has since found himself on greener pastures making ends meet in the island country of Malta. With no friend or company other than the conveniently explosive and violent mannerisms of former waitress Siu-Ling (Sarah Chang) for his regular P.M.T. needs, it isn’t long before Fallon realizes his world is about to get just a little smaller with the appearance of fellow Oasis guild member Finicky Fred (Perry Benson), ensuing an informal reunion by way of an opportune, albeit tentative business partnership that also allows Fred to find his way to a love connection he met online. Just when things are going somewhat smoothly for the duo, Fallon and Fred are black-bagged […]
Every new action film starring Scott Adkins is a reason to celebrate. The British actor and martial artist has long been one of the most reliable performers in the genre. Not only committed to delivering the best possible on-screen action with every new project despite any budget or schedule limitations, his “story first” mindset and dedication to the craft of acting are unparalleled among his action film contemporaries. This commitment to quality in all areas of production is readily apparent in his latest film ACCIDENT MAN: HITMAN’S HOLIDAY. This sequel to the 2018 action comedy ACCIDENT MAN, finds professional killer Mike Fallon forced to protect the insufferable heir to a powerful crime family from a series of increasingly outlandish assassins in order to save the life of an old friend who is being held captive by his charge’s vicious mob boss mother. This simple setup allows Adkins to show off his […]
Actress and martial artist Sarah Chang will star alongside Scott Adkins in Accident Man 2, from debut directors George and Harry Kirby. Production begins in Malta next month from Sony Entertainment and Six Demon Films, with a script by Stu Small, storied by both Small and Adkins. Adkins headlined the inaugural 2018 hit with helmer Jesse V. Johnson, based on the original Toxic! graphic novel, and starring as Mike Fallon, a methodical contract killer cornered by betrayal in the wake of his ex-girlfriend’s murder. Further reportable cast and crew info, as well as story details remain pending as pre-production ramps up. U.S.-born Chang is a national Wushu champion and a five-time member of the U.S. Wushu Team whose skills have helped bridge her career in front of the camera, seeking film and television opportunities in Taiwan, Beijing, and eventually the Philippines. Her screen credits partly include lead roles in Vincent […]
Venturing into his third feature, actor and filmmaker Vincent Soberano has rolled out the official trailer for supernatural thriller, Circle Of Bones. Soberano penned the script with co-writer Larry Dela Cruz for a story that teams him once again with actress and martial artist Sarah Chang following their previous work on tournament thriller The Trigonal, and action horror, Blood Hunters: Rise Of The Hybrids. When Filipino police investigate a lone survivor from a series of bizarre and macabre cult murder-sacrifices that has left a trail of bloody, dismembered bodies and bones, they find a former American FBI agent living in seclusion – disfigured, traumatized and mentally unstable. Her accounts of supernatural events, demonic possessions, ancient prophecies and child sacrifices only sound too incredulous, where lines are blurred, bordering between truth, deception or delusion. Soberano is currently aiming to get some festival traction this year along with some market movement before […]
Far from his maritime documentary exploits and a long ways before The Trigonal would surface, ex-soldier, martial artist and film-hyphenate Vincent Soberano would find himself in award-winning territory with an action horror proof that found its prominence en route to feature film fruition. Casting Chinese American international martial arts champion athlete, actress Sarah Chang, our story for Blood Hunters: Rise Of The Hybrids dives head first into the origins of its narrative, immersing you in a world where Aswang, a fabled, bloodthirsty beast of Filipino folklore, exist. The film’s preambling flashback scenes are comprised of the inaugural shortfilm that foundate the current story going forward. That story introduces Gabriela (Chang), a former cop-turned-rogue hunter in search of the Aswang beast that killed her family, Naga (Temujin Shirzada). A close call with death finds her suddenly resuced and awakening at a remote jungle training facility led by Monte (Monsour Del Rosario) […]
A March 2020 release has been set for actor and director Vincent Soberano’s latest action horror, Blood Hunters: Rise Of The Hybrids. TriCoast Entertainment officially announced its acquisition this week and is launching world sales at AFM. The news comes duly as the film is set to premiere in front of an audience at the seventh-annual Urban Action Showcase at the AMC Empire 25 cinemas in New York City on Saturday, November 9. The film marks Soberano’s return to the UASE three years since Blood Hunters – his inaugural proof of concept short – won Best Short Film at the 2016 Cinemax HBO Action Film Competition at the UASE. Produced by IndieGo Pictures, Soberano stars opposite Chinese-American martial artist, actress and stunt professional Sarah Chang who makes her lead debut. In the film, Chang plays Gabriella, an ex-cop who sets out to find the Aswang beast that murdered her family. […]
At this point, three years is a long-enough wait for a film to release, and actor and director Vincent Soberano has seen more than his share of the process and patience that cosigns with today’s film politics – particularly with his feature debut production, Blood Hunters: Rise Of The Hybrids. In wake of this, Soberano posted a new announcement on Thursday along with an illustrious new official poster to garner attention. “After post-production delays and redesigns, Blood Hunters: Rise of the Hybrids is now getting ready for a 2019 international release!” the announcement reads. “In the tradition of movies like Sin City and graphic novel films, this action-packed martial arts action fantasy is coming soon to theaters and digital platforms worldwide!” Advanced from his 2016 award-winning Urban Action Showcase shortfilm and with action sequences by Jeff Centauri and Revrick Jocson, Soberano also stars in a key role in which he […]
It was late 2016 when I sought to dive a little more into the work of filmmaker and stunt performer Temujin Shirzada. His Golden Horde-produced Mulan proof-of-concept eventually led me into the throes of Asian-American martial artist, Sarah Chang and as such, her activity also helped keep me abreast of some really exciting cinema to come out of the Philippines. It’s a darn good time too, especially given the warm reception of Erik Matti’s latest, BuyBust. Other directors helping to pave the way forward in Filipino cinema beyond politics and creative differences as a result, particularly director, actor and martial artist Vincent Soberano, are already showing promise in this millenium, and rest assured, the nationally renowed Wushu stylist is certainly making her own investment quite clear and present as a result. Filipino moviegoers are less than a month away from the new martial arts tournament thriller, The Trigonal, marking but […]
It’s been roughly a couple of years since I was made aware by Facebook friend and stunt performer Eulver Presto of actor and martial artist Vincent Soberano‘s endeavors in film. His 2016 action horror proof, Blood Hunters, won Best Short Film at the Urban Action Showcase that year, and ultimately drew a turning point for the martial arts journeyman, MMA trailblazer and filmmaker whose directing career now brings a fully-loaded schedule. He has at least two trailers already running; His first release is still forthcoming next month with martial arts tournanent thriller, The Trigonal. Ironically, his narrative directing debut advancing his shortfilm concept into feature film fruition for Aswang action horror, Blood Hunters: Rise Of The Hybrids, came prior just last year with its production and with its trailer came hopes of release. As such, questions followed for anyone wondering what’s been procuring the long wait period. This week, Soberano […]
Ian Ignacio stars in THE TRIGONAL, the newest feature from actor, martial artist and director Vincent Soberano.
This week’s installment of The Hit List brings some stunning and inventive surprises…particularly if you’re a fan of 8-bit game lore, kung fu, power rangers and Johnny Cash. You read that last one correctly!
My energy level was sputtering all weekend. I had some much needed fun though and got to decompress and meet some new and beautiful people. Happy start to my summer. L to R (top): Masami Kosaka, J.C. Leuyer, Sadiqua Bynum, Cyrus Leisy, Bobby Nickels L to R (bottom): Sonalii Castillo, Peter Syckelmoore, Seydina Balde, Frans Steyn, Sarah Chang I’m also where the independent action and stunts are as we commence with this week’s return of the Hit List after a period of catching up and a little more rest in between. We begin with the familiar name of Judit Szvia and I couldn’t be more proud to start her at the top of this week’s playlist of stunt and athetic reels followed by contributions from Ryan Robertson, Darin Hicks, Cyrus Leisy, Peter Syckelmoore, Sadqiua Bynum, Frans Steyn, Robert Linden, Lexter Santana and J.C. Leuyer. Promotional items are quite a handful […]
EXCLUSIVE: The bustling career path faced by actor, martial artist and filmmaker Vincent Soberano is one that seems to have been continually ripe at nearly every turn in the past two years. Several films completed in his wake and with more in tow with partnerships currently in bloom, he is well on his way into the summer film festival season with a momentous brand that moviegoers and action fans will be very keen on in the coming months if not already. Further details are still pending following the news we broke last month for upcoming thriller, No Man’s Waters and romantic action comedy, Three Poles, but keep these titles in mind as we now look toward the forthcoming release of Soberano’s new tournament action thriller, The Trigonal. Actor and martial artist Ian Ignacio leads the film among a raft of screen talents comprising the story of a retired martial arts […]
EXCLUSIVE: Emerging director, actor and martial artist Vincent Soberano is hot on the campaign trail for his current film slate this week in Beijing. With at least two of his upcoming releases now privately showcasing in Beijing for an audience comprised of major Hollywood and Chinese industry executives and distributors therein, it’s a milestone to marvel at with Soberano now hailing as the first Filipino director to be privy to a screening of this kind. Not for nothing either, as the footage speaks for itself and those who’ve seen last year’s teaser trailer for Blood Hunters: Rise Of The Hybrids would likely stand in accordance. Since then, the eight-time world Muay Thai champion’s craft behind the lens has only continued to grow and with none other than latest of one of the aforementioned two titles now readying for a local theatrical release this May with martial arts revenge thriller, The […]
With at least one directing debut coming down the pipeline, another is well on the way from filmmaker multihyphenate Vincent Soberano. The first teaser for The Trigonal has arrived over the weekend ahead of its May 2 release with a cast that enlists Ian Taylor Ignacio, Sarah Chang and Rhian Ramos. An underground fighting circuit run by an international crime syndicate invades a retired martial arts champion’s small idyllic town. When syndicate thugs brutally assault his wife and murder his best friend, he is left with no other choice but to fight for justice. Ignacio, who appears and Soberano’s upcoming Blood Hunters: Rise Of The Hybrids, currently has a few noteworthy credits among those listed while The Trigonal certainly serves as a potential continuation of the local action genre revival in wake of films like Nilalang and Erik Matti’s upcoming BuyBust. It’s a credible prospect for Soberano whose Best Short Film […]
It hasn’t been that long since actor and filmmaker Vincent Soberano completed his debut feature action horror, Blood Hunters: Rise Of The Hybrids, an effort no less aiming to bring quality action cinema to the fray along with some meaty, prolific FMA action to the screen as well. He’s not resting just yet either as he’s now onto the next for the sophomore filmmaker with the start of production this week for supernatural martial arts action drama, Tapado: Fight For Justice, following a press conference in Bacolod City at the start of the week. The film’s title itself is a word that stems from stick fighting in Filipino martial arts, one that no less speaks highly to Soberano’s contined goal of bringing FMA to the forefront of action by next year as there are already a few films brewing in the action genre in the region. Headlining are Soberano in […]
With The Philippines standing as one of numerous film markets around the world where the action genre has been left stagnant, the brunt of progress is, instead, left in the hands of inspired creatives working independently to produce their own contributions without major studio backing. It’s something that people like Vincent Soberano has had to accustom to in order to for his new movie, Blood Hunters: Rise Of The Hybrids, with the film partly founded on its acclaimed shortfilm predecessor, and with this comes a fresh new teaser now out and about to help sample some of the goods. It’s not a bad looking effort either and quite the opposite, especially for his first feature film. Soberano himself is an actor as well as a Muay Thai champion and documentary filmmaker, and it is here he furthers his film debut as well in a lead role from his own script, […]
