Actor Scott Adkins is already reaping acclaim among Fantastic Fest attendees in the hours since catching wind of the premiere of Todor Chapkanov’s Boyka: Undisputed. Partly it’s a matter of great timing as well with director Jesse Johnson in the wake of updating his own website with a fresh new poster headling his newly completed film, Savage Dog. Details on the film have remained all but scant on the story since the film was unveiled ahead of production at Cannes back in May. BOYKA: UNDISPUTED Sounds Off With A New Post-Production Sneak Peak

Goodness…it feels like forever since we first caught the trailer for Scott Adkins vehicle, Boyka: Undisputed. By far it’s one of this year’s most-hyped titles and a release date is yet to be revealed while the film itself remains in post production with director Todor Chapkanov at the helm and Isaac Florentine producing. In the meantime, a little taste of something is better than nothing and so now we’re getting a sneak peak into the film by way of a new featurette with re-recording mixer Gord Hillier and supervising sound editor Kris Casavant hailing from Nu Boyana Studios in Sofia, Bulgaria. For this, you get an action-packed intro followed by an intriguing look into the complex sound design process using Avid Pro Tools | S6 control surface, and another quick sampler at the intensely shot fight finale between Adkins and hulking actor and bodybuilder Martyn Ford. One may have wondered exactly when Undisputed 3: Redemption character opposites, Scott Adkins and Marko Zaror would reunite for another round. Well, leave it to Zaror to tease the masses on Thursday with a little bit of Cannes sales art from Bleiberg Entertainment for the new action thriller, Savage Dog. Plot details and crew informantion are unavailable at present. The folks over at Bleiberg Entertainment are shopping the film at Cannes this week with the artwork seen below, and plans to shoot the film in June, reuniting Adkins with director Jesse V. Johnson since cameoing in Johnson’s Dominique Vandenberg-led 2005 action thriller, Pit Fighter. As of today, this summer’s release of director William Kaufman’s direct-to-DVD war thriller, Jarhead: The Siege, will precede what looks like another impending partnership between Kaufman and action star Scott Adkins. As Deadline reports, The Returner will feature Adkins in the role of John Piper, a Prohibition-era speakeasy owner murdered along with his family for defying Al Capone, only to be mysteriously brought back from life with nine lives to spare and a chance to avenge himself and his family. Nope, not a remake of Yamakazi Takashi’s 2002 sci-fi buddy epic of the same name if that’s what you thought, but still offers a punch packworthy for action fans with Adkins headlining. Turbo/XLrator Media I think the only time I’ll ever fully enjoy an Isaac Florentine film is when he’s busy immersing the audience in MMA matches with prison Spetz champ, Uri Boyka at the center of an Undisputed film. Beyond that, I can’t really help but view last year’s Close Range as anything more than what it is. Even with B-movie action cinema, there’s a way to hit the sweet spot, and unfortunately this one doesn’t. However, that’s not to say this film doesn’t try and it certainly does, but only in ways we’re probably already familiar with.
