INVISIBLE TATTOO Inks A New Trailer For The Vincent Zhao Actioner
It’s funny recalling director Lu Yitong’s long-awaited period actioner, Invisible Tattoo, as it had already begun its campaign with a brief teaser as early as December 2017 when I initially posted it on my blog. As for its long, dragged-out wait, your guess is as good as mine, in which case, I’m willing to bet it was the politics – be it the sea change of the Chinese government and its extemporaneous affect on the film industry up to now. This goes for plenty other titles long since completed and yet to be released, in my opinion, which will never not be a sad thing to ponder, ever. At any rate now though, folks who’ve been waiting to see what actor and martial arts star Vincent Zhao has to offer here can now sample some in the latest trailer now running online this week. Zhao stars as Achang, a tatoo […]
[UPDATE] KUNG FU LEAGUE: Masters Collide This September From Well Go USA
It’s taken a bit of time to come to, but the long-awaited U.S. release of Jeffrey Lau’s martial arts ensemble romp, Kung Fu League is officially gearing up for a Blu-ray Combo, DVD and Digital release on September 17 from Well Go USA. To update, we also have an official trailer now up and running since this article was published five days ago. Dennis To reprises his TV title performance from the ancillary feature, Ip Man: The Legend Is Born while Vincent Zhao returns in robe and queue as Wong Fei-Hung, Andy On steps up as Huo Yuanjia and Danny Chan relitigates the posterity of famed Bruce Lee persona, Chen Zhen. Leading the narrative is actor Ashin in a debut role as a shy man who summons the four legendary kung fu masters to help him fight for the woman he loves when his manager prevents him from ever reaching […]
Vincent Zhao Remains FEARLESS In The Official IQIYI Series Trailer
Action star Vincent Zhao is reportedly returning to TV this year with Fearless, following his previous performance in 2001 biographical drama centered on martial arts legend, Huo Yuan Jia. Zhao’s reprisal also joins his iteration next to those seen in Legend Of A Fighter and in Ronny Yu’s Fearless, as well as that of Andy On in the Jeffrey Lau-directed Kung Fu League in which Zhao portrayed Wong Fei Hung. A story that follows Huo Yuanjia, a martial artist who fought bravely in every match to win honor for his nation. After the Hundred Days’ Reform failed to achieve its purpose, the ‘Six Gentlemen’ who spearheaded reform were executed. Huo Yuanjia (Vincent Zhao) is a hot-blooded patriot who aspires to do good for his country. His efforts are always met with resistance, and he could only watch helplessly as people became martyrs for their beliefs. Shortly afterwards, the Eight-Nation Alliance […]
KUNG FU LEAGUE: Heroes Headline The First Trailer For Jeff Lau’s Raucous Kung Fu Flick
Notable Kung Fu Hustle producer Jeff Lau has since entered the fray with his next directorial feat, Kung Fu League. The project has been teases a headlining crowd of folkloric film heroes and now we have a first trailer this week. I gotta say, it’s wackier than I predicted and looks equally ridiculous, save for any hopes of this film being more film than fan service. I suppose it’s mainly because there isn’t a full synopsis available which is why this trailer is so daunting apart from what we already know. Alas, Vincent Zhao stakes his claim as the venerable Wong Fei Hung next to Andy On who takes the mantle as Huo Yuanjia, Danny Chan lending more to the typecast as Bruce Lee persona Chen Zhen, and Dennis To reprising as Ip Man from Herman Yau’s 2010 iteration of the Wing Chun grandmaster… As for this trailer, well… it’s […]
Vincent Zhao’s THE UNITY OF HEROES Lands At Well Go USA
We’ve got a ways to go before we learn any more about what’s in store with actor Vincent Zhao on several titles, save for one, at least. The IQIYI release of his latest Wong Fei Hung revival, The Unity Of Heroes, has been hitting the sales floor at Cannes and just racked up a raft of sales as reported by Screen International on Monday. In the late Qing Dynasty, the East India Company produces a narcotic by conducting human testing in Guangdong. These secret tests begin to come to light when one of the test subjects crashes into Wong Fei Hung’s famed medicine clinic. The initial official trailer has been online for a while now, while fans of Zhao can also expect a U.S. trailer courtesy of Well Go USA in due time. Other territories include Clover Films for Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei, China 3D for Hong Kong and Macau, […]
Vincent Zhao Reprises A Kung Fu Legend In THE UNITY OF HEROES Official Trailer
A date is yet to be set for Lin Zhenzhao’s own Wong Fei-Hung induction, The Unity Of Heroes, which feels like something out of left field for those of us lingustically barred from mainland entertainment news. What we do know though, ahead of its IQIYI release, is that we have genre favorite, actor Vincent Zhao front and center and back in familiar garb as one of Asian cinema’s greatest legends. The actor is also set to reprise the role in at least two other films which haven’t begun their campaigns and so I expect something to arise possibly in the Fall or Winter. In the meantime, The Unity Of Heroes also has actress Wei Ni and actor Michael Tong co-starring. So I guess that total is now three unless any more suprises await us.Peep the trailer below, and hat tip to @AsianFilmStrike for the update!
Vincent Zhao-Starring INVISIBLE TATTOO Inks A Stimulating Action Teaser
Much was ado earlier this season for actor and martial artist Vincent Zhao whose latest with director and co-star Lu Yitong now spawns the retitled period pic, Invisible Tattoo. The project is a 1935-set actioner that takes place in a southwestern salt industry town and there’s no doubt that some thrilling martial arts action will ensue per recent stills and an official teaser now online. Xu Dongdong, Li Mincheng, Sang Ping, Sawada Ken, Juliet Gama and Wang Shengdi also star along with none other than actor and freerunning stunt extraordinare David Belle in his latest stint in China since last year’s Super Express. That’s all there is to document for now about this movie while the teaser itself is ripe and yours to watch and rewatch to your heart’s desire. Peep it.
TATOO: Filming Underway With Vincent Zhao And David Belle
Much has been ado over the past few weeks with developments pertaining to the action pic, Tattoo. Leading the way is actor Vincent Zhao (God Of War) fresh from the set of a pair of upcoming projects, one of which saw him reprising the role of Wong Fei Hung among a folkloric ensemble cast for director Jeff Lau’s Kung Fu Big League. Yu Bo is producing with director Lu Yitong at the helm. Plot details aren’t very clear but we do know the story is set in 1935 with Zhao tackling a role describe as “righteous and devious”; He plays a tattoo artist branded with his own birth year of 1900, who stands at the crux of a plot that centers on a series of legendary stories connected by mysterious tattoos serving as clues for something much greater. The news at MTime from several days ago also reportedly hints at […]

Review: Gordon Chan’s GOD OF WAR Unwavers With Dogma
It’s been a long time since I had seen a Gordon Chan film. Point in fact the last time I did was with The Medallion – demonstrably one of the lesser-impressive Jackie Chan films even for all his Hollywood hype at the time. Still we’re talking about the same guy who brought us the forever-immortalized Jet Li’s 1995-starrer, Fist Of Legend, showcasing a simplistic, clear-cut tale of wartime drama, murder mystery and intrigue, coupled with martial arts action cinema’s best and legendary in film fight scenery. No doubt though these that Chan can hold his own, apart from the complexities and advancements of film along with his own growth. While not entirely perfect, his newest epic, God Of War, offers a feasible and entertaining array of story and period cinema articulation with actor and martial artist Vincent Zhao in a starring role – something which I can wholly appreciate as […]
GOD OF WAR: Watch The Newest Trailer For Gordon Chan’s Period War Actioner
I can’t speak too highly of what we’re sampling these days in director Gordon Chan’s new movie, God Of War. It looks pretty dull and unappealing and doesn’t really boast anything slick or eye-popping, although I suppose the additions of Vincent Zhao, Sammo Hung and Kurata Yasuaki for this 16th century tale of Chinese soldiers battling Japanese pirates helps with the much-needed fan service a bit. The legend of the famous Chinese military general of the Ming dynasty, Qi Jiguang, who leads the Ming forces to defend the eastern coast of China from raids by the Japanese pirates. During the late Ming period, corruption within the local government and repeated invasions at the Chinese coast left soldiers in low morale and local villagers living in misery. General Qi, together with Yu Dayou, stepped in with their recruitment of three thousand Yiwu villagers. In just a few days of disciplined trainingby […]
WellGo USA Nabs GOD OF WAR For English-Speaking Territories
Asian action star Vincent Zhou’s career is one that’s been on the low signal end of things for a few years now. Thankfully he’s one that’s popped up from time to time with recent titles like True Legend, Wu Dang, The Boundary and The White-Haired Witch Of Lunar Kingdom, as I’ve been a fan of his work since having spied a few of his earlier hits like Fong Sai Yuk 2, The Blacksheep Affair and Fist Power. Soon enough, he’ll be launching a full scale period epic assault on our senses with director Gordon Chan (2000 A.D., Legend Of The Fist: The Return Of Chen Zhen, The Four trilogy) for the new thriller, God Of War which opens in March of next year. Post production is underway for the film with news now out of Toronto from Variety that the film has officially been picked up for multiple English-speaking territories […]
Happy Belated Birthday To GOD OF WAR Co-Star Jiang Luxia!
I spent my Christmas weekend catching up on quite a few titles, including Hung Yan Yan’s 2008 directorial effort, Coweb (unfortunately granted the U.S. title of Ninja Masters by Lionsgate). The film wasn’t exactly the best I’ve seen save for some of the amazing action sequences, but it’s certainly a milestone for actress Jiang Luxia who has continued starring in a fair share of actioners in one role another. Needless to say, it’s quite rewarding that we’ll be seeing more of her in 2016, particularly returning among the likes of action director and co-star Sammo Hung for Gordon Chan’s The God Of War. Filming is still underway with action star Vincent Zhao joining her fellow Once Upon A Time In Shanghai co-star Hung and fellow action star Kurata Yasuaki with a period story that sees a Ming general and a Shaolin master train an army to fight Japanese pirates on […]
Gordon Chan's Period Epic, GOD OF WAR Gets Cast And Plot Details
Courtesy of MTime We’re more than a month since director Gordon Chan began filming his newest, God Of War, with a report that gave us an early look at actor Vincent Zhao starring. Bona Film Group’s own Yu Dong is producing the film and slowly but surely, just a few more details are finally trickling with several more pictures highlighting cast and costumes. Sammo Hung, his son – actor Timmy Hung, and fellow action legend, Kurata Yasuaki, are joining the new period flick with a script co-written by Chan which forsees Zhao and Hung in the respective roles of Ming general Qi Jiguang and Shaolin Master/General Yu Dayou as they prepare an army to fight Japanese pirates on Eastern coast of China; That’s about as far as the plot goes at this point until further details are finally made clear, but whatever happens, Hung himself will be styling the action […]
Get A Look At Vincent Zhao In Gordon Chan's THE GOD OF WAR, Now Shooting
Courtesy of MTime It’s been about a year since actor and action star Vincent Zhao has been active. Thankfully nowadays the White Haired Witch Of Lunar Mountain co-star can be seen in costume for director Gordon Chan in the new period epic loosely titled, The God Of War. The film has apparently just begun shooting with a script that focuses on a general who trains an army to fight back against Japanese pirates. Chan reunites with action choreographer Ku Huan-Chiu, the latter whose most recent credits include Chinese box office hit, Monster Hunt and A Monk Comes Down The Mountain, as well as Chan’s own fantasy trilogy, The Four, and a bit more on the upcoming AMC series, Into The Badlands. Currently there’s no other info as things are a bit early but a release is obviously likely for next year while we get a glimpse at Zhao suited for […]
Vincent Zhao Returns In The New Trailer For Upcoming Crime Drama, THE BOUNDARY
Actor Vincent Zhao is someone Asian action fans rarely ever hear from nowadays, but it is always good to see him staying busy, far away from previous drama. Soon, the marital arts action star will be seen in actor Wu Jing’s directorial debut, Wolf War, but not before ending the year with another riveting new crime drama that looks as hard-hitting as ever. The film in question has a bunch of titles floating around online, but the one that seemingly sticks out the most is The Boundary. It is directed by Wang Tao stars Zhao along with Curse Of The Golden Flower co-star Liu Ye, and Black And White 2: The Dawn Of Justice 3D co-star Gulinazha in a story that centers on its two male leads in a tale that involves one man’s search for his missing fiance. The film has a plot but I can’t find anything in […]
Wu Jing And Scott Adkins Trade Blows In The First Teaser For SPECIAL FORCE: WOLF WARRIOR!
Some say that patience is a virtue for anything worth waiting for, and for fans of martial arts stars Wu Jing and Scott Adkins, the reward is finally getting closer with the latest thirty second teaser for Wu‘s solo directorial debut, Special Force: Wolf Warrior (formerly known as Warg and Wolf War). Up until now, we’ve only gotten small glimpses of the production with some viral stills and behind-the-scenes pics and featurette late last year. Other than that, it’s safe to say the film is still in post-production, but the film presents quite a good looking cast, which namely so far includes Yu Nan (The Expendables 2) and Vincent Zhao (The Blacksheep Affair) to name a few. Hopefully more official info about the film’s cast, characters and plot will surface. In the meantime, with Wu still on the set of his next thriller, SPL 2: A Time For Consequences with […]
Go Behind The Scenes Of THE WHITE-HAIRED WITCH OF LUNAR KINGDOM
Audiences are no strangers to movie remakes and reboots, and there will be a few prolific ones for Asian audiences next month when director Jacob Cheng‘s new film, The White Haired Witch Of Lunar Kingdom gets its big screen release. With several versions of the iconic character having existed over the years, Distribution Workshop has since moved forward in promoting its film this year with a trailer already online to showcase the five-month long effort took to bring his latest 100 million RMB fantasy action adventure to life. We are also being offered our first behind-the-scenes look (just at the top), a slate of stills and some solid new character posters which you can take a look at in the embed below, featuring lead actress Fan Bing Bing, and actors Huang Xiaoming, Vincent Zhao and Wang Xue Bing. The film is expected to hit China cinemas on April 25, 2014 […]
Action, Romance And Wuxia Majesty Highlight The New Trailer For THE WHITE HAIRED WITCH OF LUNAR MOUNTAIN
International actress and screen beauty Fan Bing Bing has seen her career make some significant headway in recent times, with two Marvel properties – a small cameo for Asia’s release of Iron Man 3, followed by a much bigger standing in Bryan Singer’s Hollywood theatrical blockbuster release of X-Men: Days Of Future Past this May. Furthermore, there is no doubt she will continue to make the same headway later this year with Jackie Chan’s next international film adventure in Skiptrace. That said, kicking things off to a spectacular start this year is new footage now available in the latest trailer for director Jacob Cheng‘s new, visually stunning 3D 100 million RMB fantasy action adventure, The White Haired Witch Of Lunar Mountain. The new trailer arrives well over a year since the film’s five-month shoot before announcing its wrap in April of last year. Produced by Huang Jianxin, the film is […]
