[UPDATE] KUNG FU LEAGUE: Masters Collide This September From Well Go USA
It’s taken a bit of time to come to, but the long-awaited U.S. release of Jeffrey Lau’s martial arts ensemble romp, Kung Fu League is officially gearing up for a Blu-ray Combo, DVD and Digital release on September 17 from Well Go USA. To update, we also have an official trailer now up and running since this article was published five days ago.
Vincent Zhao Remains FEARLESS In The Official IQIYI Series Trailer
Action star Vincent Zhao is reportedly returning to TV this year with Fearless, following his previous performance in 2001 biographical drama centered on martial arts legend, Huo Yuan Jia. Zhao’s reprisal also joins his iteration next to those seen in Legend Of A Fighter and in Ronny Yu’s Fearless, as well as that of Andy On in the Jeffrey Lau-directed Kung Fu League in which Zhao portrayed Wong Fei Hung.
KUNG FU LEAGUE: Heroes Headline The First Trailer For Jeff Lau’s Raucous Kung Fu Flick
Notable Kung Fu Hustle producer Jeff Lau has since entered the fray with his next directorial feat, Kung Fu League. The project has been teases a headlining crowd of folkloric film heroes and now we have a first trailer this week. I gotta say, it’s wackier than I predicted and looks equally ridiculous, save for any hopes of this film being more film than fan service.
I suppose it’s mainly because there isn’t a full synopsis available which is why this trailer is so daunting apart from what we already know. Alas, Vincent Zhao stakes his claim as the venerable Wong Fei Hung next to Andy On who takes the mantle as Huo Yuanjia, Danny Chan lending more to the typecast as Bruce Lee persona Chen Zhen, and Dennis To reprising as Ip Man from Herman Yau’s 2010 iteration of the Wing Chun grandmaster…
As for this trailer, well… it’s basically signaling fan service and some of which is quite laughable. Be it in a good or bad way is totally in the eye of the beholder but with a trailer like this, at least tentatively, it’s hard to imagine this will be anything more than a kung fu brain relaxant for the popcorn MA crowd. Hopefully it will be fun too.
Lau has more going for himself later in the year with Assassins And The Missing Gold and fantasy adventure, Nehza. As for Kung Fu League, well… check the trailer below and judge accordingly.

Vincent Zhao Reprises A Kung Fu Legend In THE UNITY OF HEROES Official Trailer
A date is yet to be set for Lin Zhenzhao’s own Wong Fei-Hung induction, The Unity Of Heroes, which feels like something out of left field for those of us lingustically barred from mainland entertainment news. What we do know though, ahead of its IQIYI release, is that we have genre favorite, actor Vincent Zhao front and center and back in familiar garb as one of Asian cinema’s greatest legends.
Vincent Zhao-Starring INVISIBLE TATTOO Inks A Stimulating Action Teaser
Much was ado earlier this season for actor and martial artist Vincent Zhao whose latest with director and co-star Lu Yitong now spawns the retitled period pic, Invisible Tattoo. The project is a 1935-set actioner that takes place in a southwestern salt industry town and there’s no doubt that some thrilling martial arts action will ensue per recent stills and an official teaser now online.
Xu Dongdong, Li Mincheng, Sang Ping, Sawada Ken, Juliet Gama and Wang Shengdi also star along with none other than actor and freerunning stunt extraordinare David Belle in his latest stint in China since last year’s Super Express. That’s all there is to document for now about this movie while the teaser itself is ripe and yours to watch and rewatch to your heart’s desire. Peep it.
TATOO: Filming Underway With Vincent Zhao And David Belle

Leading the way is actor Vincent Zhao (God Of War) fresh from the set of a pair of upcoming projects, one of which saw him reprising the role of Wong Fei Hung among a folkloric ensemble cast for director Jeff Lau’s Kung Fu Big League.

Review: Gordon Chan’s GOD OF WAR Unwavers With Dogma
Legendary actor Kurata Yasuaki makes his latest reunion with Chan here as the leader of the Matsura clan, Kumasawa, next to the Daimyo’s son, Yamagawa, played by Koide Keisuke. Kumasawa’s methods are of a matter of study from a long career of war with wisdom earned as a result, knowing not to underestimate his enemy unlike his cohorts, including Yamagawa who, despite his quiet resolve and stoic devotion to the samurai code, finds himself questioning Kumasawa’s logic to almost no avail.
GOD OF WAR: Watch The Newest Trailer For Gordon Chan’s Period War Actioner
I can’t speak too highly of what we’re sampling these days in director Gordon Chan’s new movie, God Of War. It looks pretty dull and unappealing and doesn’t really boast anything slick or eye-popping, although I suppose the additions of Vincent Zhao, Sammo Hung and Kurata Yasuaki for this 16th century tale of Chinese soldiers battling Japanese pirates helps with the much-needed fan service a bit.
The legend of the famous Chinese military general of the Ming dynasty, Qi Jiguang, who leads the Ming forces to defend the eastern coast of China from raids by the Japanese pirates. During the late Ming period, corruption within the local government and repeated invasions at the Chinese coast left soldiers in low morale and local villagers living in misery. General Qi, together with Yu Dayou, stepped in with their recruitment of three thousand Yiwu villagers. In just a few days of disciplined trainingby drilling, using advanced weapons and fine tactical deployment, came the first ever “special forces” – also known as the famous “Qi Army”.
The film is gearing up for a release in China on May 27 with other territories pending. Looking past all else, it’s great to see Zhao again as rare as we get to see him on camera these days and God Of War will hopefully service the masses much better in its delivery than at present.
Check out the new subtitled trailer below!
WellGo USA Nabs GOD OF WAR For English-Speaking Territories
Martial arts legends Sammo Hung and Vincent Zhao (Once upon a Time in China IV &V,The Blade) team up in this period war action extravaganza about how Chinese general Qi Jiguang defeated Japanese pirates that proliferated along the Chinese coastline during the 16th century with unique stratagems and maverick tactics.
Vincent Zhao Returns In The New Trailer For Upcoming Crime Drama, THE BOUNDARY
Actor Vincent Zhao is someone Asian action fans rarely ever hear from nowadays, but it is always good to see him staying busy, far away from previous drama. Soon, the marital arts action star will be seen in actor Wu Jing’s directorial debut, Wolf War, but not before ending the year with another riveting new crime drama that looks as hard-hitting as ever.
The film in question has a bunch of titles floating around online, but the one that seemingly sticks out the most is The Boundary. It is directed by Wang Tao stars Zhao along with Curse Of The Golden Flower co-star Liu Ye, and Black And White 2: The Dawn Of Justice 3D co-star Gulinazha in a story that centers on its two male leads in a tale that involves one man’s search for his missing fiance. The film has a plot but I can’t find anything in English, so you’re likely to find something posted by Filmsmash or some other place online in due time.
At any rate, the film gets its day on China on November 6, and has a trailer which you can check out right now, courtesy of MTime. No English-subs either, unfortunately, but hopefully you’ll get the idea.
Wu Jing And Scott Adkins Trade Blows In The First Teaser For SPECIAL FORCE: WOLF WARRIOR!
Some say that patience is a virtue for anything worth waiting for, and for fans of martial arts stars Wu Jing and Scott Adkins, the reward is finally getting closer with the latest thirty second teaser for Wu‘s solo directorial debut, Special Force: Wolf Warrior (formerly known as Warg and Wolf War).
Up until now, we’ve only gotten small glimpses of the production with some viral stills and behind-the-scenes pics and featurette late last year. Other than that, it’s safe to say the film is still in post-production, but the film presents quite a good looking cast, which namely so far includes Yu Nan (The Expendables 2) and Vincent Zhao (The Blacksheep Affair) to name a few.
Hopefully more official info about the film’s cast, characters and plot will surface. In the meantime, with Wu still on the set of his next thriller, SPL 2: A Time For Consequences with Tony Jaa, Special Force: Wolf Warrior has finally delivered its very first, rewarding teaser, and one that will hopefully be the first of many with Wu behind the camera if he so chooses. Check it out!
