Season two of hit YouTube Premium series, Cobra Kai, is only just over a few weeks away with a date set for April 24. The SVOD platform rolled out a brand new sneak peek on Monday featuring series star William Zabka, and actor Martin Kove whose role reprisal of Karate Kid antagonist, Sensei Kreese, was teased in the first season. Zabka headlines the sequel series opposite Karate Kid trilogy star Ralph Macchio in a story set three-and-a-half decades after the 1984 feature that started it all; Following up from Johnny’s perspective, the crux of the series takes off with an underdog tale exploring the renewed rivalry between him and Daniel LaRusso as Johnny redeems himself by reopening the Cobra Kai dojo. Director Michael Dowse’s latest offering, Stuber, was already the subject of some mixed-to-positive reception after screening at SXSW last month. The rip-roaring action comedy, led by actor Kumail Nanjiani and the bustling feats of actor/wrestler Dave Bautista, has since been dated for a July 12 from Fox and now we have a look at the first official trailer above which looks all sorts of fun from what we can gather. When a mild-mannered Uber driver named Stu (Kumail Nanjiani) picks up a passenger (Dave Bautista) who turns out to be a cop hot on the trail of a brutal killer, he’s thrust into a harrowing ordeal where he desperately tries to hold onto his wits, his life and his five-star rating. Ready for Don Lee to conquer your moviegoing 2019? Lee Won-tae‘s The Gangster, The Cop And The Devil which just rolled out its first assets online ahead of its Korean release from Kiwi Media Group. Lee is joined by Illang: The Wolf Brigade co-star Kim Moo-yul for the story of Jang (Lee) and Jung (Kim) two men on opposite sides of the law who reluctantly join forces to end a raft of serial killings when Jang narrowly survives after becomimg a target himself. Lee’s fellow cohort from The Outlaws, actor Kim Seong-gyu, rounds out the trio as the aforementioned serial killer for the film’s May release. Actor Joe Taslim‘s proliferation this week is at its most timely. His co-starring role kicks off on Cinemax with the Friday premiere of Bruce Lee-inspired series, Warrior, while the action star’s lead Indonesian theatrical debut in upcoming action comedy, Hit & Run, finally takes off this summer. Skakmat director Ody C. Harahap directs with Taslim front and center as Tegar, a celebrity cop whose mission to arrest a drug lord goes awry. Among the cast are Tatjana Saphira and Jefri Nichol while the pièce de résistance may well be the reunion of Taslim with Yayan Ruhian nearly a decade since tearing each other apart in director Gareth Evans’ blistering action pic, The Raid. Now we have a quartet of casting announcements from Variety with John Cho (Star Trek reboot trilogy) leading the way as Spike Spiegel. THR and Variety both had their breaking news breaks on Wednesday announcing Stranger Things series co-star David Harbour and actress Rachel Weisz as circling roles in 2012 Nazi drama Lore helmer Cate Shortland’s standalone Black Widow adaptation. The two may join Florence Pugh (Fighting With My Family) who recently boarded the project to be led by recurring Avenger Scarlett Johansson who took on the Marvel role beginning in Iron Man 2 (2010). Jac Schaeffer is penning the script for which exact plot details are being kept under wraps, as well as character descriptions. After winning hearts and minds at CinemaCon this week, Warner Bros. Pictures’ continued onward with its now public campaign for the October 4 release, Joker. The latest incarnation from Todd Phillips now presents a non-universal take on the iconic DC Comics villain that might even have you pining over a few “what would’ve been’s” or “could’ve been’s” with this new venture starring Oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix in the title role. “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck (Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale. GIRL COPS: Jung Da-Won’s Odd Couple Crime-Solving Romp Lands A First Trailer

Second-time director Jung Da-won is poised to make an impression this May with the release of his newest action comedy, Girl Cops. Two posters have already begun making the rounds while we also have a first trailer this week from CJ Entertainment. Actress Ra Mi-ran plays Mi-young, a police station public service worker whose once legendary detective career has since slowed down after marriage. She’s joined by Lee Sung-kyung who plays Ji-Hye, a bumbling rookie cop then demoted to working in the same public service office. The plot picks up when the two find themselves embroiled in solving a criminal case. You can pretty much get the idea from here on with what the trailer imposes and it looks like it’ll be a fine watch. May, it is – although I’m a little keen on believing there’ll be a title change of some kind after this. We’ll see.

WB’s AKIRA Adaptation Lands Sizeable Tax Incentive For Complete California Shoot

The long-gestating adaptation of Akira is finally moving forward after being awarded an $18.5 million dollar tax credit from the state of California. The move comes short of two years since Thor Ragnarok helmer Taika Waititi was a reported frontrunner to direct the film since its development at Warner Bros. Pictures began in 2002. Akira was created by mangaka Otomo Katsuhiro who shepherded both Kodansha’s 1982 manga and his 1988 feature from Toho. The story centers on two members of a biker gang – childhood friends Kaneda and Tetsuo, living in post-apocalyptic Neo-Tokyo who find themselves embroiled in government corruption and secrecy when a military experiment turns Tetsuo into a psionic madman. Akira is long considered a staple of Japanese science fiction, cyberpunk and action entertainment culture, in addition to adding to much of Otomo’s acclaim as one of the most prolific innovators in the world of film and entertainment.
