Review: ALONG WITH THE GODS: THE LAST 49 DAYS Maintains Epic Fantasy Deliberation With Unfolding Drama

Director Kim Yong-Hwa made a major hit for himself late last year adapting Korean fantasy webtoon, Along With The Gods: The Two Worlds. The film even took me by surprise thinking it would be one straightforward film at one point and not knowing right away there would be an almost immediate back-to-back sequel, and even learning recently that more developments for the big and small screen were in bound. Immersed in a Buddhist narrative, the first movie is one of nearly constant emotive stimulus, coupled with big scale battles with mystical weapons against varying creatures and entites, including a fast-growing demonic vengeful spirit proving pivotal in the movie’s progression. The drama is heavy-handed amidst a sprawling millieu spanning Earth and the Afterworld, and the action left an almost anime-inspired feel with our characters moving at lightning speed. That hasn’t changed, and with a trio of actress now officially listing Kristen Stewart (Personal Shopper), Naomi Scott in her reunion with Banks since Power Rangers and British actress Ella Balinska (Midsomer Murders) to headline the new revival of the classic all-female 1976 crimefighting espionage spy TV series. Disney’s Live-Action MULAN Casts Jason Scott Lee For Villain Role

While the elongated production process for Niki Caro’s live-action reinstallment of Disney property, Mulan, moves forward, the studio has just cast actor Jason Scott Lee according to Rebecca Sun at The Hollywood Reporter. Lee’s casting sees him starring in the villainous role of Bori Khan, described in the report as “a warrior leader who is intent on avenging his father’s death”. The casting reunites Lee and martial arts star Donnie Yen following their on-screen bout in Yuen Woo-Ping’s Netflix wuxia adventure, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: Sword Of Destiny. They’re joined by The Forbidden Kingdom co-star, actress Crystal Liu who was cast out of thousands of candidates who auditioned for the title role of the heroine who desperately takes her father’s place during military conscription. Accordingly, Saban Films is officially declaring a win with a VOD/Digital HD and select theatrical release for September 14, and a U.S. trailer to boot! FINAL SCORE: Dave Bautista Ups His Game In The Official Trailer

The Tournament and Heist helmer Scott Mann’s latest follow-up, Final Score, has been a long-awaited one. Nowadays with a teaser in its wake, an official trailer arrived this week with plans for a theatrical and on-demand release in Ireland and the UK from Sky Cinema starting September 7. It’s “Die Hard in a soccer stadium” when ex-soldier Michael Knox (Dave Bautista) has to use all his military skills to save the 35,000 capacity crowd at a top flight football match when they’re held hostage by armed kidnappers demanding a ransom. Bautista, of Marvel’s MCU, fame is joined by Pierce Brosnan, Ray Stevenson, Amit Shah, Lara Peake and Ralph Brown. There are currently no release plans elsewhere but we’ll be sure to help provide those updates in due time.

In wake of the 45th anniversary of late martial artist, actor and filmmaker Bruce Lee’s untimely death in 1973, word is brewing once more of the long off-and-on talked about potential remake of the action classic, Enter The Dragon. As Mike Fleming Jr. at Deadline noted on Monday, Deadpool 2 and Atomic Blonde helmer David Leitch is now circling the remake of the Warner Bros. classic, for which the search for a writer has also commenced. Art Of The Steal helmer Jonathan Sobol’s new indie crime thriller has gone quiet under the radar until now with The Padre. An official trailer is now live and with some strong talent at the forefront with no less than Nick Nolte still draws compelling performances as does Tim Roth. Hell-bent on justice and revenge, retired U.S. Judge Randall Nemes (Nick Nolte) and his hired gun, Gaspar (Luis Guzmán), track down a small-time con man (Tim Roth) posing as a priest in a small Colombian town only to be thrown off-course by a scrappy 16-year-old local girl intent on reuniting with her little sister in the U.S. Also starring is actress Valeria Henríquez. Jon Landau took to a live Q&A panel with actress Rosa Salazar, James Cameron and director Robert Rodriguez for a discussion on upcoming manga adaptation, Alita: Battle Angel.
