‘Fast’ Spinoff, HOBBS AND SHAW, Casts Idris Elba To Play The Villain

Page Six, New York Post Idris Elba is officially entering the Fast & Furious arena by way of David Leitch’s upcoming spin-off set to begin shooting this Fall. Justin Kroll at Variety exclusively confirmed the actor is in final talks to star as the villain of Hobbs And Shaw which will see actors Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham reprising their respective roles from the latest four films of the Fast franchise. The news comes following the addition of actress and upcoming Mission: Impossible – Fallout actress Vanessa Kirby (The Crown) who will reportedly join the cast as an MI-5 agent who happens to be the sister of Statham’s role. Eureka Entertainment rolled out a volley of announcements on Thursday for forthcoming UK DVD and Blu-Ray releases between now and next month. Spanish-American filmmaker Adolfo Martínez Pérez stands to gain from this latest update now with an official trailer for his 2017 directorial debut, Rescue Under Fire, billed as “an adrenaline-fueled action thriller based on true events”. The crew of a medical helicopter crashes in Afghanistan whilst attempting to assist an ambushed patrol of Spanish and American troops. The Spanish army has only one night to organise the rescue of the crew and injured, but what seems routine turns into hell once they receive the order to rescue the helicopter as well. STXfilms is only a month and a half away from the hopeful launch of a new action franchise of their own in Peter Berg’s latest, Mile 22. The first trailer released back in May and I kind of feel that it fell short of how resonant it might have felt had it not been toned to feel “cool” rather than foreboding and reverent in promoting an action film. The independently-produced martial arts thriller is the latest effort from actor, martial artist and Cha Ki Do founder, Paul Mormando. Dylan James is a rough and tough underground fighter who is estranged from his family. When Dylan refuses to fight for the mob, the mob boss kidnaps his brother’s daughter to force Dylan back into the fighting game. ZAN: Get A First Look At Tsukamoto Shinya’s New Period Samurai Pic

Tetsuo, Tokyo Fist and Fires On The Plain helmer, multifaceted filmmaker and cult favorite Tsukamoto Shinya is en route with Zan, a new period thriller now slated for a November 24 release. The film, whose title translates as “Kill”, tells of a ronin trying to survive mid-19th century Japan during the course of its of violent transition from feudalism to the modern world. Actor Ikematsu Sosuke (upcoming Falling Camellia) leads the film with actress Aoi Yu (Tokyo Ghoul) also starring as a peasant farm girl who lives in the same village as our protagonist. Zan will be their first collaboration with Tsukamoto who is also writing and serving as cinematographer on the pic, as well as producing via his Kaijyu Theater.  As Variety’s Marc Schilling reported on Thursday, Zan could very well have its first premiere at the Venice Film Festival which kicks off on August 29.
