There’s plenty to take issue with when it comes to anything live-action and Transformer movie-related. Granted however, each of them guarantee a good time at the movies in some capacity and one can certainly have hoped that the franchise in its current growth would reconfigure some of its faults and flaws with each installment. Surely enough that extends to Transformers: The Last Knight ahead of its release this July and a brand new trailer arrived on Wednesday leaving plenty of footage to fawn over in its wake next to that of others. SPACE PIRATE CAPTAIN HARLOCK Announced For Live-Action Adaptation From Film World Stuidos

Fans of the long-standing manga/anime property, Space Pirate Captain Harlock may be delighted with news of a new live-action film being officially announced by Film World Studios following a series of week-long teasers. The news comes reportedly after less than a year since Japanese retailer Manga Zenkan upon their rollout of the “complete edition” of the manga, otherwise hinting at a live-action Italian and Hollywood film adaptation in the works at the time. Crime Pic, SHOT CALLER, Lands At Saban With Early Teaser Poster Art

Bold Films just presented its latest teaser poster for the upcoming crime thriller, Shot Caller, for which we now have word of its new home this week at Saban Films according to Deadline. Directed by Ric Roman Waugh (Snitch) from his own script, the film sees Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game Of Thrones) leading the tale of a prison gangster fresh out from behind bars only to be forced back into the underworld by his superiors in lieu of a a major crime with a brutal rival gang on the streets of Southern California. Joining Coster-Waldau is actress Lake Bell and actor Jon Bernthal with Emory Cohen (Brooklyn), Omari Hardwick (Power), and Benjamin Bratt rounding out the cast. Vacation helmers Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are back in the saddle at Warner Bros. Pictures with principal photography is underway in Atlanta, Georgia for the new action comedy, Game Night. Jason Bateman (Horrible Bosses) and Oscar nominee Rachel McAdams (Marvel’s Doctor Strange), are leading a cast from a script by Accepted scribe Mark Perez and with Bateman producing with John Davis, and with Marc S. Fischer, John Fox and James Garavente executive producing. Cinevest Acquires Anna Mormando’s Indie MA Drama, BOUND BY DEBT

Things have been slowly coming together in the past few years with actor, filmmaker and martial artist Paul Mormando for the new action drama, Bound By Debt. Efforts on that end have since extended to Cinevest Interactive who have reportedly acquired worldwide distribution rights to the film for its December release marking wife and film partner Anna Mormando’s own debut at the helm. Paul Mormando plays Dylan James a rough and tough underground fighter who is estranged from his family. Robert James is an addicted gambler with a wife and two daughters. When Dylan can no longer fulfill his obligations to the mob, Mob Boss Mr. Russo uses Robert’s gambling addiction and family as leverage against Dylan. The two brothers will have to reunite to save themselves and Robert’s family. If there’s one thing you have to commend Marvel for doing, is keeping their end of all things film such good fun no matter how much people pine for something R-rated or family-friendly. At best, they’ve maintained quite the balance on all ends with thrilling action and storytelling with a cohesive narrative that keeps things nonetheless grounded in the whirlwind of fantasy we’re immersed in. I remember first catching the trailer for Luc Besson’s upcoming sci-fi, Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets and likening it to the director’s equally splendid intergalactic futuristic sci-fi bid, The Fifth Element. Granted the film’s over-the-top bravado and almost anime-style delivery, the formula itself applied a groundbreaking tale that garnered the film’s succession at the box office nearly 20 years ago. 20 years later, The Fifth Element is now heading back to limited theaters this May for a two-day anniversary screening event. Crunchyroll is ramping up its proliferation a little more this Spring as per its January announcement for Anime Movie Night, among other things. With that in mind, they’re ringing it in with their first event feature in the form of the Kabaneri Of The Iron Fortress Double Feature: Part 1: Light That Gathers and Part 2: Life That Burns. SYNOPSIS: During the industrial revolution, mankind is threatened by a sudden emergence of undead monsters who can only be killed by piercing their heart through an iron plate. Those bitten become one of them. Called “Kabane,” these monsters exploded in number. The Hinomoto people built fortress stations and barricaded themselves inside. Only steam locomotives, the Hayajiros, can travel between them. The marketing is in full swing with just one week through to the release of the new movie, The Fate Of The Furious. The official Facebook page will have its own live feed from New York City for its world premiere on Saturday, April 8 at 6:30pm EST to which you can tune in through the player just below via its fan page. While you’re at it, I came across YouTuber Rossatron’s latest video dissecting the Fast franchise and exploring just what it is that makes it so successful. He makes some pretty staunch points about it, and all worth keeping in mind as we look toward the next two films rounding out the saga from Universal Pictures. Sidebar: As for how they’ll do it…well, I’m pretty sure they’ll find a way to make it work, though the Diesel V. Johnson beef still puzzles me some.

Manga author Arakawa Hiromu’s 2001-2003 Enix publication, Fullmetal Alchemist, has stood the test of time with two animated series and films and further posterity on home release platforms. Given this, I guess the next obvious step would be to take things further and test the waters with a live-action approach, a feat that is never easy to do and especially with a story as big, sprawling and emotionally compelling as this one.
