Michael Mann Launches Book Venture, HEAT Prequel Novel In The Works

In a nutshell, I’m pretty much of the opinion that director Michael Mann’s cyber-hacking thriller, Blackhat, deserved WAY more love than it got back in 2015. It was a great, suspenseful action thriller and a mark of someone who knows his way around constructing a good few hours of worthy cinema for your money. Needless to say, Blackhat won’t be the end for Mann and that pleases me. That said, I’m even more pleased that he’ll be seuging into another venture with his name attached for Michael Mann Books, in which he’ll be loading up on a slew of content with other authors in conjunction with presenting some of its literary products on the big screen. It’s not enough for a lot of comic book fans that certain properties don’t measure up to expectations, and Marvel’s forthcoming Netflix series, Iron Fist, has endured quite the criticism as of late. That said, it’ll be a debate worth having as time rolls on while we await to see the series come to fruition with Game Of Thrones actor Finn Jones in full superhero mode. Yep, just a day away from the return of Daredevil and six months away from the season premiere of Luke Cage, Marvel’s in need of a fourth to headline its Defenders series. Long-Awaited WB/DC Adaptation, LOBO Gets A New Writer

An adaptation of the long-running DC property, Lobo, has been in the works since around 2009 while the character itself has already made the rounds in comic books and animated properties. Now, reports from The Wrap are showing that the film is headed to the big screen for certain with word that screenwriter and oft actor Jason Fuchs will pen the script the film for Warner Bros. Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen launched the character in 1983 – a Czarnian alien bounty hunter and often villian who re-emerged as an anti-hero biker in the 1990s. Brad Peyton, who directed San Andreas and will eventually return to helm and produce its sequel along with Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming game adaptation, Rampage, is currently at the helm for Lobo as of 2012. Catch The Teaser For Indonesian Action Drama, JUARA

A stylish little teaser came my way this week for the upcoming Indonesian action drama, Juara, which went online back in December. Actor, singer and breakdancer Bisma Karisma leads the film from director Charles Gozali with a release set for April 15, and with a month to go before then, a trailer is expected to arrive very soon. With that in mind, the teaser bares mentioning as minimal as it is in action. It samples a little more in drama while teasing a smidget of some amazing fight sequencing with Karisma daring to impress opposite 3, The Raid 2, O and The Gate co-star Cecep Arif Rahman. Nope, not by a long shot with Deadline bringing their latest exclusive on the forthcoming Cannonball Run reboot with Get Hard and Tropic Thunder scribe Etan J. Cohen writing and directing for the franchise’s new home at Warner Bros. Fallout from SXSW appears to be benefitting filmmaker Fede Alvarez some with feedback circulating on his latest premiere, Don’t Breathe. Screencrush‘s own observation lends a notable comparison for Stephen Lang’s character to that of Rutger Hauer in the 1989 thriller, Blind Fury, among others, which caught my eye in tracking this particular title, not being able to attend SXSW and all. That said, I’m intrigued by this movie already and its latest poster makes it even more official. John Woo's MANHUNT Confirms Two Leads

Names began swirling some casting news earlier this week with word that four actors were possibly up for roles in Media Asia’s forthcoming remake, Manhunt, from director John Woo. As of now though, the news reads as official with actors Zhang Hanyu and Fukuyama Masaharu set to lead the film when cameras commence rolling in May. The film advances from director Sato Junya’s 1976 film adaptation of Nishimura Juko’s earlier novel, “Hot Pursuit”, in which a lawyer must set out to clear his name after being framed and wrongfully accused of robbery, rape and multiple murders. Finnish filmmaker Jesse Haaja is gearing up for the remaining portion of production for the new film, Rendel. Haaja’s trajectory has been long toward directing, and even moreso in the superhero genre as of about eighteen years ago, and with the last several years he’s spent on advancing his efforts from a shortfilm concept to a fully-fledged feature, Haaja has since managed to earn much needed support and backing from other directors and producers on the film festival scene with the help of crowdfunding to contribute to certain production costs. I never saw Indiana Jones And The Crystal Skull. I’m curious about it though and still hope to when I get around it, although criticism of the film from friends suggest I do the exact opposite as the earlier films were awesome all around.
