It’s been a long time since we last heard from Malaysian filmmaker James Lee who first came on our radar with an array of amazing short films. His career is undoubtedly inclusive with some terrific feature work, some of which include 2009’s Call Me If You Need Me and 2012 action comedy, The Collector – both featuring Singaporean import Sunny Pang. HIGH MOON: Peep The Poster And Trailer For Josh Ridgway’s Gunslinging, Axe-Wielding Western Action Horror Hybrid

Writer/director Josh Ridgway (The Sector) took to Arrow In The Head on Monday presenting an exclusive look his latest sophomore effort, High Moon (formerly Howlers). Distribution Solutions/Alliance Entertainment and Archstone Distribution are partnering for a May 14 VoD/Digital release before a DVD rollout on July 2. Colt, a gunslinging werewolf slayer from the old west who mysteriously rises from the grave, only to find that the band of werewolves that brutally murdered his wife is still running rampant generations later. Aided by a beautiful widow (Chelsea Edmundson), a skeptical town sheriff (Matthew Thompkins) and a corrupt Mayor (Sean Patrick Flanery), Colt must face off with the bloodthirsty creatures once again to save a sleepy southern town from destruction. HELLBOY Gives ‘Em Hell In The Latest Red-Band Trailer

Well there’s no Billy Idol here, but the latest official trailer is here for director Neil Marshall’s very much R-rated adaptation of Hellboy coming in April. We have new posters as well but as almost always, there are two versions of the new Hellboy trailer out now – the green band and the red band versions, and you can best believe I’m featuring the latter here. Because we love red-bandy things! Based on the graphic novels by Mike Mignola, Hellboy, caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human, battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge. Planet Films is high on momentum for the next month and change with the upcoming release of Zahir Omar’s directorial debut, Fly By Night. He’s got himself a few new posters making the rounds courtesy of Planet Films, host to laurels from its Busan XXIII debut and Macao premiere late last year, and to its credit, the Asian Cinema Fund stamp of approval as its 2018 beneficiary from July (scroll down to view). Ready or not, filmmaker Lee Jeong-beom is coming back with a vengeance for his return at the helm, The Bad Lieutenant. It’s been five years since directing No Tears For The Dead but the celebrated helmer of The Man From Nowhere seems ready to turn the page somewhat thematically in his creative stride. Enter Lee Sun-kyun, whose recent credits partly include A Hard Day and Ha Jung-woo thriller, Take Point. Starring in the title role, Lee plays Jo Pil-ho, a dirty, corrupt police lieutenant who suddenly becomes the prime suspect in a devastating explosion, enveloping him in a conspiracy involving a multinational conglomerate. Lee described his role at a press conference in Seoul, according to The Korea Herald‘s Yoon Min-sik, adding “He doesn’t compare to other characters that I have played in being harsh and ill-natured. LOVE’S TWISTING PATH Is One Paved In Action, Romance And Swordplay In The Official Trailer

Having etched his place in film history as nearly sixty years in, folks can now celebrate director Nakajima Sadao’s latest return to narrative storytelling. Following a two-decade hiatus, his new film, Love’s Twisting Path, brings ceremonial fervor for jidaigeki fans featuring actress Tabe Mikako, and fellow stars Kora Kengo and Kimura Ryo. What unfolds is a love story set at the tail-end of Edo period in Kyoto, entangled by blurred nuances of human emotion amidst the turmoil of war between the Shogunate’s regime and local dissidents. At the center of it all is a former master-turned-ronin named Tajuro, the beautiful tavern owner named Toyo who loves him despite his dismissals and self-positioning as guardian to her property, and Tajuro’s younger and admiring step brother, Kazuma. The official trailer is now online along with poster art following the film’s Kyoto Interntaional Film and Art Festival premiere last year.

It was back in 2016 that Warner Bros. Korea would be ramping up its production slate and it’s doled out quite a few treats since then, save for Kim Jee-woon’s Ilang adaptation which I still enjoy. This year, the banner will look to rectify things with its latest offering, Bad Police, opening March 21 and starring Take Point actor Lee Sun-kyun with a logline that cites “A story about a bad cop standing up to an even worse society.”. That’s not much to go on while there’s little to suggest there’s some shared basis with Abel Ferrera’s memorable 1992 Harvey Keitel crime opus, Bad Lieutenant, but I can definitely see the basis for some inspiration. Director S. Craig Zahler is exactly the kind of director you’re looking for if you want a film that leaves a lasting impact. Last year’s head-stomping hit with Brawl In Cell Block 99 proved to be an entertainingly violent allegory on redemption from the Bone Tomahawk director and apart from any of the reviews stemming from its screening last year at Venice, his newest entry, Dragged Across Concrete, seemingly teases something that could almost be just as brutal and chilling, and just as soulful by way of its soundtrack. INEMURI IWANE: Swords Clash In The Official Trailer

The first official trailer is finally here for director Motoki Katsuhide’s latest, Inemuri Iwane, headed for Japan screens on May 17 from Shochiku. The film takes its cues from Saeki Yasuhide’s Futaba Bunko novel series and its three-volume NHK TV series follow-up. The film centers on Matsuzaka Tori (The Blood Of Wolves, Sanada 10 Braves) in the role of Iwane, his two friends, Kinpei and Shinnosuke, all who train at the same dojo, and Kinpei’s younger sisters, Shinnosuke’s wife, Mai, and Iwane’s fianceè, Mao. Blood begets blood when Kinpei kills Shinnosuke for murdering Mai in a jealous rage, forcing Iwane’s hand in a duel in the wake of an already-decimated brotherhood. The film was adapted for the screen by Fujimoto Yuki and also stars Emoto Tasuku, Sugino Yosuke, Yoshine Kyoko and Miyashita Kanako among the cast.

STRAY: Karen Fukuhara Battles Supernatural Evil In The Official Trailer

Director Joe Sill’s new supernatural horror, Stray, has been another feat for the Berlin crowd with Screen Media selling the pic at EFM. The company is already on the way with a March 1 release host to actress Karen Fukuhara who segues from her DC stint in Suicide Squad as Katana to portray an orphaned girl investigating her mother’s murder. Actress Christine Woods makes her entry as the detective who forms an unlikely friendship the young girl who discovers she’s imbued with mystical powers that could very well help fend off evil forces lurking in the midst. Also starring is actor and J-rock superstar MIYAVI following a co-starring role in Kong: Skull Island, and completely owning the villain end of things in Sato Shinsuke’s hit manga epic, Bleach. Celebrated director and actor SABU made festival waves late last year in Tokyo premiering his latest, Jam. World sales reps at Freestone have been busy at EFM in Berlin where the film now looks toward garnering releases overseas since opening locally in December. HiGH&LOW franchise actors Aoyagi Sho (Tatara Samurai), Machida Keita (Over Drive) and Suzuki Nobuyuki (Strayer’s Chronicle) lead the cast for an action drama wrapped in arthouse flair about the intersecting lives of three men: a has-been pop idol hoping to resurrecting his career, a good samaritan hoping his actions will cure his dying girlfriend, and a yakuza on the run after killing another gangster who had him sent to prison. SHAFT: Slapstick Adds To The Crimefighting Family Business In The Official Trailer

Imaginably, I would have thought director Tim Story’s follow-up from John Singleton’s 2000 continuation of the Shaft franchise would be a bit darker than what’s presented in the first official trailer. Usual comedy aside, what we get here seems a bit extra and feels more like a fish-out-of-water crime romp written by someone trying to grow from their previous workdesk at Disney. That’s just me for the time being. Alas, it’s the first sample of what’s now being slated for release in theaters on June 14 from Warner Bros. Samuel L. Jackson and original franchise star Richard Roundtree are joined by Jesse T. Word has it that Robert Rodriguez’s latest manga segue, Alita: Battle Angel, may tank with a finish of about a third or a quarter of its budget after its release on February 14. It’s unfortunate too since the film actually started looking like something after completely blowing it with the first trailer back in 2017, and plus, judging by my friend Eoin’s review at The Action Elite it sounds like it should be a fun time for folks checking it out on the big screen. Well Go USA is tipping its hat to its consumer base with the first U.S. official poster for director Le Van Kiet’s raucousing actioner, Furie. Paving its way in Vietnam as Hai Phoung in Vietnam for its February 22 release, folks living stateside can now mark on their calendars a select theatrical release on March 1 as well. When a little girl is kidnapped by a trafficking ring, they soon find they messed with the wrong child. Her mother, a notorious former gang leader, is close on their trail and will go to any lengths to bring her child home. Veronica Ngo stars in the new thriller that’s been much ado with Raid hype since its announcement at Cannes last summer. Also starring are Phan Than Nhien and Mai Cat Vi.
