Fukuda Yuichi’s GINTAMA 2 Hints At A Potential Crisis With New Character Teaser Posters
Sorachi Hideaki’s Gintama is a universe brimming with colorful characters, and for what it’s worth, director Fukuda Yuichi has done an albeit impressive job at manifesting it all into a reality for live-action cinema. He’s back at it again with a sequel tentatively titled Gintama 2 and while we await its August 17 release with much of the cast returning from the first film and subsequent festival and rollout news to come, new character posters are out and about and teasing the possible turn of events that could center heavily on the Shinsengumi and the Shogunate.
Sitting center of the collage below is the 14th ruling Shogun of Edo himself, Tokugawa Shige Shige. On the left are Kawakami Bansai (close associate of the Kiheitai’s Takasugi Shinsuke played by actor and recording artist Domoto Tsuyoshi in the 2017 film) and Oniwabanshuu-trained ninja, assassin and cafĂ© worker, Sarutobi Ayame, who has a penchant for natto, is an S&M aficionado and is wholly fixated on our main protagonist, Yorozuya Gin-chan’s own Sakata Gintoki, reprised for the sequel once more by actor Oguri Shun.
The top right image hints at the role of Itou Kamotarou, an intergral figure aligned with Takasugi tasked with causing subterfuge in the Shinsengumi during the Shinsengumi Crisis Arc, while beneath we get our debut image of the actor playing Matsudaira Katakuriko, the police chief and superior to Shinsengumi commander Kondo Isao, to be itself reprised by actor Nakamura Kankuro. Also making cantankerous bar matriarch and landlord Otose’s live-action debut is actress Kimura Midoriko whose poster can be seen in the album below.
