KAYA: Don’t Miss The Official Trailer For Isabel Lamers’s Tribeca-Selected Filipino Martial Arts Short Drama
Formerly dubbed as “Filipino Karate Kid” is the otherwise-titled Kaya, starring and directed by Isabel Lamers in her directorial debut which crowdfunded on Kickstarter back in late 2024. The project filmed in the past year and completed in January and now looks toward a prospective World Premiere at the 22nd edition of Tribeca Film Festival in June.
An outsider in her own culture, half-Filipina Nia secretly trains with queer outcast Malic to join a popular Filipino Martial Arts team in Manila, only to discover that winning starts with accepting who you truly are.
Kaya also stars EJ Lipata, Gaye Angeles, and actress and stuntwoman Kayley Carrigan (Our Father, Triggered). Check out the trailer and stills below:
