NO TROUBLE: Watch Rich Ting Lay Waste To Racist Goons In Jonathan Chan’s New Action Short
After a group of racist punks threatens a Chinese restaurant, a cook on parole grapples with whether to take matters into his own hands to defend the community.
This one goes out to all the “Warrior” fans of late who missed watching Bolo throw down with Ah Sahm and other Tongs and Duck rioters in the hit series. Indeed, actor Rich Ting’s hat is still in the ring with credits including dramas like “Tulsa King” and “On Call” and voice acting several Korean dramas like “Squid Game” and “The Manipulated”.
Thus, Ting can also be seen in the occasional shortfilm, the latest being No Trouble from director Jonathan Chan who began working on the project as a high schoolers five years ago. Fast forward to 2026 and Chan has made several stops with the project garnering acknowledgement from audiences at BeyondFest, FilmQuest, Dances With Films LA, and the Asian American International Film Festival.
Chan released the short on YouTube a few weeks ago and it’s now approaching almost 130k views as of this post. Not too shabby! Read on for Chan’s commentary and enjoy the new thriller just beneath!
This project started all the way back in 2021 while I was a junior in film school. A whole 5 years ago.
Making a short based on my family, let alone an action short is no easy feat. Everyone called me crazy for the vision I had in store for this. And they were right to. But I had a hook in me to see this thing through.
When I wrote the first draft of NO TROUBLE, I was angry with the world. It was post pandemic and I couldn’t stop thinking about the violence towards Asian Americans. The hate. The victims who suffered.
As an Asian American whose family not only worked their asses off, fought for this country, and endured injustices that still haunt my mind to this day, I knew I had to do something. I was compelled to tell their story.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to the entire cast and crew who were involved in the process of making this project. The amount of favors, late nights, and artistry put into this, I can never truly repay.
Lastly, I’d like to thank my grandparents, who had the strength to endure and the dedication to build a good life for their children.
I’ll be sharing tons of content and BTS about NO TROUBLE in the coming weeks so stay tuned!
Enough of all that. Hope you enjoy!
