Somewhere on the net, someone referred to this movie as “A perfect film to watch on your VCR”, though his intentions were clearly to mock the film, in my book, he couldn´t have made a higher praise. With that title seen million times, the guys from Millennium Films brings a generic action thriller with elements seen countless of times before in a limited budget production where Antonio Banderas shines above the whole cast, proving once again that he’s a terrific action hero, in a dark, violent but also satisfying flick that despite its flaws, with a start that seems confused what path to take, opting finally for a typical action spectacle that carries the legacy of 80’s and 90’s low budget action flicks, that nowadays struggles to survive in streaming and limited cinema runs. Chicken Soup For The Soul’s Screen Media label is out as of Thursday with the official trailer for Code Name Banshee. The film is directed by Jon Keeyes from a script by Matthew Rogers, and stars Antonio Banderas, Jamie King, Tommy Flanagan and Catherine Davis for its July 1 theatrical and digital release. Caleb (Antonio Banderas), a former government assassin in hiding, resurfaces when his protégé, the equally deadly killer known as Banshee (Jaime King), discovers a bounty has been placed on Caleb’s head, which the powerful mercenary, Anthony (Tommy Flanagan) is now seeking to collect. Caleb and Banshee must put the past behind them and join together one last time, along with Caleb’s daughter, Hailey (Catherine Davis) if they are to survive the secret CIA plot that threatens to destroy them.
Screen Media Takes Antonio Banderas Actioner CODE NAME: BANSHEE For July Release
Antonio Banderas continues to hit a stride with action fans on a number of genre titles following The Expendables 3 and films like Security and Acts Of Vengeance. This time he’s an assassin on the run in Jon Keeyes’ latest, Code Name: Banshee, which also stars Jamie King and has been selling as part of Red Sea Media’s international sales slate at the Cannes market this week. On Wednesday, Variety learned the film will now go to Screen Media for its U.S. release to be given a day-and-date theatrical and on-demand release in July. Anyone else up for another Antonio Banderas-led turn at the action genre? Take a gander at Richard Hughes’ The Enforcer, which launches sales for the virtual Cannes market this month from Millennium Media. Set in Miami, the story follows an enforcer who discovers his femme fatale boss has branched out into cybersex trafficking, putting a young runaway he has befriended at risk. The enforcer sets out to sacrifice everything to save the young girl from the deadly organisation he has spent his life building. Banderas, who joins Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg for Sony’s upcoming action adventure, Uncharted, will star from a script by W. Peter Iliff who penned both Kathryn Bigelow’s Point Break and the 2015 reboot among other credits. BULLET HEAD: Man’s Best Friend Ain’t Very Friendly In The Official Trailer
Paul Solet’s new crime thriller is getting a theatrical release on December 8. I speak of Bullet Head following its acquisition by Saban back in September and a trailer has been online for several days now sampling a bit of the essential kinetic chills and thrills to be expected. For this, we get Adrien Brody, John Malkovich and Rory Culkin starring in a story among other intertwining stories that focus on love, fear and conditioning, and the wrong turns that tend to have us land in the dog house. Save for further largess on the matter, the dog hunting our cast down is most certainly pissed. Antonio Banderas also stars in this one – Can’t say I know why but clearly his badass screen persona here lends something cool and wicked to viewers. Check out the trailer:

Con Air, The Expendables 2 and upcoming Stratton helmer Simon West is up for a return to the big screen for his new film, Gun Shy, which Saban Films acquired back in June. A dose of comedy to accommodate the action adventure narrative are what lie ahead this time around per its adapted screenplay from “Salty” author Mark Haskell Smith. When vacationing in Chile, an aging and pampered rock star’s (Antonio Banderas) supermodel wife is suddenly kidnapped by renegades. Unable to navigate more than ordering a sandwich from room service, now he must take to the backstreets of Santiago in this hilarious caper that is as entertaining as it is hair-raising. It was back in early October that investments were secured for at least two more films in a deal struck between producer Steven Paul of SP International Pictures, SSXH Beijing and Max Screen Film Distribution. One of those two films mentioned was Alain Desrochers‘s latest from Millenium Films, Security, with a $15 million dollar budget now being applied to its photography with locations set in Bulgaria at Nu Image studios, and possibly China depending on the direction of the production.
