FULL THROTTLE: Acclaimed 'Fast & Furious' Cinematographer To Make His Directorial Debut

Award-winning and nominated Australian-born cinematographer Stephen Windon‘s career resumé as of late is worth highlighting. Most notably, his credits on four of the Fast And Furious films within the franchise in addition to the 2013 sequel adventure, G.I. Joe: Retaliation alone stand out as worthy highlights to list as credentials for someone possibly looking to spread his wings in the industry.

Alas, it’s today’s report from Deadline that solidifies it for Windon in lieu of his latest directorial debut announcement, Full Throttle, for Singapore-based DragonSlate Media. The film will tell the story of a former motorcycle racer-turned-courier forced to race through the city to perform dangerous criminal acts while avoiding law enforcement at the behest of the criminal mastermind holding his girlfriend hostage.

The film is set to be a major collabration between Hollywood and Malaysia film crews. The Matrix Trilogy executive producer Andrew Mason is said to be leading the production with DragonSlate’s own Sukee Chew, Andrew Ooi, Harriet Spalding and Robert Lundberg executive producing and Leon Tan on board to produce. There’s no cast yet so this could go anywhere whilst Windon completes his work on the upcoming third installment of the Star Trek franchise with veteran Fast And Furious helmer Justin Lin.

Rest assured, a good action film takes a damn good crew behind it with the director of photography playing such a pivotal role, and with Windon‘s accomplishments – especially with the billion-dollar-plus success of his work on Furious Seven, Full Throttle sounds like it’s on a fast track toward fan appeal yet. The film also marks a debut for writer Fathi Beddiar whose screenplay sets the stage for intense drama, toxic friendships and explosive gun battles, with epic sequences overseen by the likes of technical weapons expert Mick Gould and action auteur Olivier Schneider, whose work credits are respectively attributed to hits like The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996), The Replacement Killers (1998), Taken (2008) and Fast And Furious 6 (2013).

Lucas Black Drifts Back Into Character For FAST AND FURIOUS 7

Deadline reports that actor Lucas Black is now being officially announced as having boarded the pack of action-branded cast members lighting the way for the current production of Fast And Furious 7, in addition to the eighth and ninth film to follow. This probably comes as no surprise to some people who may have been expecting to see the 42 and Legion actor reprise his role from the 2006 film, The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift. My best guess is that with things moving full speed ahead, and for all things considered regarding the connection between the 2006 film and the end of Furious 6, we can only hope to hear announcements about actor Mortal Kombat Legacy 2 actor Brian Tee returning to reprise his old role from the film as well. But that’s just me, although I hope I’m not alone.

Joe Taslim's Breaks Out The Big Moves In 2013

I have to say, this week’s developments have been difficult to keep up with. In addition to the news regarding the involvement of Wesley Snipes and Mel Gibson in The Expendables 3, new reports also indicate Indonesian action star Joe Taslim is also up for a role in the upcoming blockbuster action thriller.

Taslim, hailing all the way from Indonesia with the successful release of director Gareth Evans‘s international martial arts action blockbuster hit, The Raid: Redemption, is looking to make his mark on Hollywood, especially with the release of the upcoming Fast And Furious 6 where he will be joined by some of the newest faces in the frachise, including Gina Carano and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This May will also see continuing prospects for the action star when the Steven Sheil action horror film, Dead Mine, gets a VoD release on May 2, 2013, followed by a DVD release on May 28, just four days after Fast And Furious 6 theatrically releases.

Joe Taslim is capitalizing very well off his much-deserved success from The Raid: Redemption, which is currently being followed up with a 2014 sequel. And to think this is only just the beginning. Trust and believe, there is every bit of reason to be excited for the next two years and counting, especially now that Jackie Chan is abstaining from big stunts as much as possible nowadays, and Jet Li is ready to take a break himself. Hell, I don’t blame them. They have been bringing the action goods for decades, and they are legends in their own right.

And with that, I look forward to what people like Joe Taslim will bring to the fold.

Fast And Furious 7 Gets A Release Date

With Universal Pictures fasttracking the production of the seventh installment of Fast And Furious, we now have a release date set for next summer for July 11, 2014 according to a new report from Deadline on Tuesday. Earlier reports have confirmed Fast And Furious 7 will be directed by James Wan, who will be replacing director Justin Lin, who has been with the franchise since directing The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift.

The upcoming May 24, 2013 release of Fast And Furious 6 will feature the returning cast from the franchise, including Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Christopher “Ludacris” Bridges, Michelle Rodroguez, Gal Gadot, Sung Kang and Luke Evans, with Gina Carano and Joe Taslim. Special appearances are said to be of pop singer Rita Ora and action superstar Jason Statham, who is also currently rumored to feature in the seventh film.
