Netflix is ripe for a time these days in which martial arts dramas are continuing to reap the favor of fans. 2019 will certainly be of interest while Marvel’s Iron Fist maintains its course for next month, and the footage we’re seeing has only gotten better since the campaign began this summer. Finn Jones is back in the title role of Danny Rand next to Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing for the story of a displaced survivor of a plane crash who, after living years in the distant realm of Kun’Lun, paves his path of self-discovery amidst epic battles back to New York City. We saw several of those clashes between our hero and that of his bitter sibling, Davos, played favorably by Sacha Dhawan and rest assured, season two makes it clear these two still have a score to settle. Season 2 furthers the transformation of Danny, a character […]
The second season premeires September 7!
I can’t really stress enough the kind of justice Cheo Hodari Coker did for actor Finn Jones’s cameo episode with Mike Colter in this year’s second season of Luke Cage. Jones’ series debut as Marvel superhero and Defender-to-be, Iron Fist, wasn’t the best received which cast an even better light on the compelling and chilling drama centered on his co-stars Tom Pelphrey and Jessica Stroup. That was largely a “grey area” factor in enjoying the first season which reasonably didn’t do much for a series meant to garner notable press for its martial arts action spectacle. Clearly, some things needed chaging going into season two and in the wake of having premiered exclusive footage for the comic-con crowd in San Diego on Thursday evening, the reactions overall seem much more optimistic. Marvel Television announced a premiere date for September 7 in its new teaser to help set the tone accordingly […]
So, as many of you know, The Defenders has premiered on Netflix and from what I can gather on social media, it has been well received. Of course people will find issues with the show as they do most shows, but I have to be honest, I truly enjoyed it. So much in fact I decided to do a follow up interview with Daredevil stunt double Chris Brewster. This will make our second interview. If you would like to read the first one, feel free to check it out here. Eric Shamm Watson: Chris, how have you been man? The last time we talked was shortly after DD: Season 1. Let’s get everyone caught up. I know one thing that has changed. Now you are a proud father of a beautiful baby girl with eyes that will put most people in a trance. Chris Brewster: Oh man! My wife and I […]
Netflix Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m beat! Friday saw the release of Marvel’s Iron Fist on Netflix and after about a week’s worth of brouhaha from critics, I caught the pilot and decided that anyone basically with a full-on negative review of this show needed to… as one of the show’s main character implies, CALM THE F DOWN! And after watching the remaining twelve episodes, STILL, I say exactly that. From the get-go and like most shows, it’s not perfect. However, it doesn’t mean that you’re not in some way shape or form intrigued or compelled by the story and it’s characters. Even a comic book noob like myself can grasp that concept and thankfully I notice on the interwebs that I’m not completely alone on this. I won’t go into too many specifics but as far as analysis goes, I will lend some counterpoint to the positives, […]
It’s been undoubtedly a rough year for Marvel fans who’ve waited to see what would stick and what wouldn’t from showrunner and executive producer Scott Buck’s treatment of comic book property, Iron Fist. I’ve waited as a matter of maybe fifteen years since actor and martial artist Ray Park was slated to star in his own movie inspired by the character and for what it’s worth, I’m glad I lived this long to see something come of it, even if a number of fans out in the world can’t afford or simply don’t have Netflix, which sucks. I understand wholly. The show premiered early Friday with Game Of Thrones series co-star Finn Jones starring in the title role, and as we speak, much to the chagrin of critcs from media and entertainment sites who’ve had a chance to look at a previous a handful of episodes or the first season […]
I as much as anyone can’t wait to spend the weekend of March 17 digesting Netflix’s new Marvel installation, Iron Fist. Finn Jones stars in the title role based on the comic book tale of a young plane crash survivor who, years later, follows up with his mysterious return to New York City with a special skill set he’ll need to take down the plutocrats running his father’s business and legacy, and the city, into darkness. Jones makes his case here in a recently-released featurette for the series in which he discusses these events and a whole lot more, with a cast that also includes Jessica Henwick, Jessica Henwick, Tom Pelphrey, Rosario Dawson and David Wenham. Check out the featurette below as well as a new animated poster.
Actress Rosario Dawson can’t seem to get away from all these superheroes descending onto New York City. Yup, she’s back, and with the appearance of actor Finn Jones in the title role of Netflix’s upcoming series, Iron Fist. SYNOPSIS: Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist. Jones and Dawson are joined by Jessica Henwick, Tom Pelphrey and David Wenham among the cast. The show is premiering on March 17 before culminating with the other Marvel shows – Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage – for The Defenders series now currently in production. Check out the final Iron Fist trailer below!
The fallout from Saturday night’s events at New York Comic Con couldn’t have been more epic after a day of total fandom with so many movie trailers and other jewels from around the web. One of the biggest items worth mentioning is the current coverage of Marvel’s activity with Netflix for the upcoming series, Iron Fist which recently wrapped filming, and its forthcoming follow-up, The Defenders, for which news in the last twelve hours broke of the addition of actress Sigourney Weaver in the video above. I only learned about that bit later in the evening in conversation long after I arrived at a bar & steakhouse in Manhattan called Mustang Harry’s where I eventually met up with Mason Sharrow, an actor, stuntman and filmmaker who I first learned of back in 2013 when he was working on Micah Brock’s hit miniseries, Slug Street Scrappers. Since then he’s been traveling […]
Next to the hype, some doubts swirled earlier on as to whether or not actor Finn Jones could live up to the demand behind fulfilling the title role of Marvel’s latest Netflix prospect, Iron Fist. That said, and on the evening of its power-packed panel Saturday night at New York Comic Con, the fans are remaining evermore faithful following the show’s initial teaser from this year’s SDCC, and now with first official trailer airing for the world to see. Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist. Helmed by showrunner Scott Buck, Jones is joined by Jessica Henwick, David Wenham, Jessica Stroup and Tom Pelphrey for its March 17 premiere on Netflix. Watch the new trailer below!
Research the fan fervor of Marvel as of late since last week’s premiere of Luke Cage on Netflix, and you are bound to come across some pretty silly, and rather racist reactions to it by racists who think the show is too black. Click here if you think I’m kidding. Apart from that, however, you will also find some of the best reviews ever written for the show. It’s a pattern that nonetheless proves evident of the good work being done since Daredevil and Jessica Jones took off and with several more programs in the works, including more seasons for the latter two shows. Sorry racists, not sorry. On that note, time will tell if Luke Cage gets either a second season as well, if not a different title – one befitting to welcome actor Finn Jones who has since taken the stage for the title role of the new […]
The work of building Marvel’s film and television universe continues for Netflix with the goal of inching further toward its much more grander ensemble series, The Defenders. For this, attendees at Comic Con International: San Diego got some fantastic news as did the rest of the internet with the announcement of a third season of the Charlie Cox-led Daredevil, as well as the first teaser poster and footage of Iron Fist starring Finn Jones. All three of these are expected to arrive by next year while we also await news on the second season of Jessica Jones with Krysten Ritter and the upcoming first season of The Punisher with Daredevil S2 co-star Jon Bernthal. In the meantime, we are just a little over two months away with the season premiere of Jessica Jones series co-star Mike Colter’s on-going tale of Marvel superhero, Luke Cage, a fugitive from justice whose unbreakable […]
It’s not enough for a lot of comic book fans that certain properties don’t measure up to expectations, and Marvel’s forthcoming Netflix series, Iron Fist, has endured quite the criticism as of late. That said, it’ll be a debate worth having as time rolls on while we await to see the series come to fruition with Game Of Thrones actor Finn Jones in full superhero mode. Yep, just a day away from the return of Daredevil and six months away from the season premiere of Luke Cage, Marvel’s in need of a fourth to headline its Defenders series. Thus, it appears that Jones has proven himself accordingly that Marvel and Netflix now have his back and they’re making it official in their announcement confirming him to star. With the outrage that has been sparked this past year with #OscarSoWhite and the lack of diversity in Hollywood. We would hope that studios would realize their mistakes and welcome ethnic actors with open arms. However, there is something about the word diversity that people do not readily associate with in Hollywood. As an Asian American actor, ex-dancer, and writer, my over half-a-decade in this industry has taught me that the word “diversity” generally only meant black and/or hispanic, and Asian Americans are not really included in that definition. It’s a sad truth to realize when you have such hopes that you would be able to represent your race in the Hollywood industry, yet you never really have the chance to because the roles are so lacking that you’re left wondering why. The #OscarsSoWhite movement has prompted many reports and studies that cite the whitewashing of diverse characters in Hollywood. […]
HBO series Game Of Thrones is set to premiere its sixth season on April 24. In the meantime, co-star Finn Jones now has more to add to his schedule these days thanks to Marvel and Netflix. Programs Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage all have their leads for their respective shows leading up to The Defenders. And still, fans patiently waited to see who would claim the role of Iron Fist before then, and courtesy of EW, the word is out with Jones now set to lead with Scott Buck serving as showrunner and executive producer. Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist. The show also lends a nod to martial arts fans who’ve become heavily vested into Netflix’s […]
At least one major key in getting a television series off the ground is acquiring a showrunner. That said, further quelling rumors about the earlier announced Netflix series, Iron Fist and its so-called cancellation is a new announcement from Marvel that Scott Buck will lead point as showrunner for Netflix’s fourth entry into its Marvel programming. There’s no word yet on who will star in the series but it isn’t like Marvel will run out of options anytime soon. In the meantime, the show’s precursors are still running high with Jessica Jones just airing as of November with Luke Cage currently in production, and season two of Daredevil well on the way to premiere next year long before Iron Fist and the subsequent ensemble series, The Defenders. You might argue that Mark Steven Johnson’s take on Marvel’s own ‘The Man Without Fear’ in 2003 didn’t really live up to the expectations many. Point in fact, there’s obviously plenty of ire to go around considering there was never a sequel. Alas, we now have executive producer and showrunner Steven DeKnight now handling things for Netflix’s own offering for the classic Marvel character, Daredevil with lead actor Charlie Cox starring opposite Vincent D’Onofrio‘s attribution to the villainous Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin, and the first official trailer has arrived with a series that promises to deliver something far different and much more hard-hitting, down-to-earth, and just a bit more gritty and gruesome than what’s been offered before. Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the Super Hero “Daredevil” in modern day […]
UPDATE (1/28/15): It seems Moussi removed his Facebook post within the last several hours since the original article was published, and reposted a few more times later stating he was not in the running to play the character. We’ll keep you posted. In the wake of the current production of Kickboxer, you may have been wondering exactly what lies next for its debut lead actor, Alain Moussi. Well, we may already have an answer for that with the latest update now drawing some pretty tasty speculation relative to what is now happening for Marvel’s currently brewing extension of their cinematic universe through Netflix, and if you’re a kung fu fan, you definitely have reason to be excited. (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’)); Post by Alain Moussi. As if Marvel did not have enough on its hands with its cinematic universe already in play, in addition to spanning the current Spider-Man film franchise with TASM 1 and 2 helmer Marc Webb already on board for part three with other directors attached to spin-offs, it’s pretty clear they’re not done blowing minds just yet. Following news unveiled in November last year, Marvel is getting the ball rolling on its upcoming series productions for Netflix with a new press release announcing their partnership with The Walt Disney Company and ABC Television studios. All eyes are now on New York State where Marvel will center its ‘flawed heroes of Hell’s Kitchen’. What does all this mean? Well, ‘dare’ I say it… the ‘devil’ is in the details! The Walt Disney Company and the State of New York have announced that Marvel Entertainment will film all of its Netflix original series […]
