‘Street Fighter: World Warrior’ Cancelled, ‘Assassin’s Fist’ Director Confirms

Actor and martial artist Joey Ansah took to Facebook on Wednesday to officially update fans of his hit 2014 live-action adaptation series, Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist. “…Do not expect a follow up series anytime in the immediate to near future.” Ansah wrote on Facebook. “Horrible news I know, but all we can do is look forward. I still have a fantastic relationship with Capcom and the fight to do something with them in this space is not over!” Ansah, and fellow cohort, series headliner Christian Howard created the project, borne from a three-minute proof of concept titled Street Fighter: Legacy, directed by Owen Trevor, and released online in 2010. I am told by a source close to production that actor Joey Ansah will next appear in director Gina Prince-Bythewood’s Netflix graphic novel adaptation, The Old Guard. The Charlize Theron-headliner is based on the titular novel series created by author Greg Rucka and illustrator Leandro Fernández. The Old Guard tells the story of a small covert group of immortal mercenaries led by weary assassin, Andy (Theron). Still, the group must fight to keep their team together when they discover the existence of a new immortal and their extraordinary abilities are exposed. Details on Ansah’s role are unclear. The last eight years have been some of the most electric for fans of Capcom’s Street Fighter game franchise. Actor and martial artist Joey Ansah’s hit webseries, Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist and its included feature film edit were an epic delight that showed the world that adapting a fighting game into live-action was possible. Sadly, any news of a follow-up season with the announced Street Fighter: World Warrior program would land in limbo with Machinima holding all the cards at the time leading up to the go90 rollout of Street Fighter: Resurrection.
