KOEI Temco’s DYNASTY WARRIORS Is Getting A Live-Action Feature Film

You have to give it up to video games! They almost always find a way to other mediums and if we’re fortunate enough, those transitions will be done correctly for them to continue. This is a wish now setting in stone for some among many who are longstanding fans of Omega Force’s KOEI Temco game franchise, Dynasty Warriors/Shin Sangokumusou.

The franchise in its current standing has spawned well over 60 games, all preset by its origins rooted in PC game lore of the 1980’s with the seperate turn-based war strategy game series, “Romance Of The Three Kingdoms” – adapted from Luo Guanzhong’s 14th century novel set near the turbulent end of the Han Dynasty and Three Kingdoms period. The Dynasty Warriors franchise launched its first title as a fighting game installment for Playstation in 1997, while the rest of the games, including spin-offs like Samurai Warriors, Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage, One Piece: Pirate Warriors, Hyrule Warriors and one of the more recent titles, manga-based title from last month circa October, Arslan: The Warriors of Legend, were all released as third-person adventure games.

The main game franchise itself has over eighty several characters you can play with. I’ve only touched a certain number of games in my time so I probably can’t tell you about how each *could* be woven along with the necessary elements into a coherent and cohesive film story, although that task is now in the hands of Hong Kong-based China 3D who are now developing the live-action feature for a 2018 date.

Casting and plot info are nil at the moment as the news is just breaking in the past day or so, although some opinions circulating the web suggest the film will be off set by its most recent title, Dynasty Warriors 8. At any rate, Dynasty Warriors/Shin Sangokumusou sounds like an adaptation that’s been a long time coming – much like the Soul Caliber series and who knows when that will ever take shape? It was probably a matter of time before post-apocalyptic zombie game would follow in the footsteps of its predecessors toward cinema territory Granted, previous results like those stemming from that of the Resident Evil franchise don’t fare critically as well despite its commercial success, although maybe something different or better will come along to help provide some optimism.

On that note, hopefully Legendary’s latest foray into live-action territory with Capcom’s Dead Rising game franchise is on its way to fans following an announcement back in June. Leprechaun: Origins helmer Zach Lipovsky is directing the film for its upcoming multiplatform digital release as of August, and this week, Dumb And Dumber To and 22 Jumpstreet co-star, actor and comedian Rob Riggle is now set to take the lead, according to the latest press release from Legendary which has more info below:

Burbank, CA – October 20, 2014 – Legendary’s Digital Media division and Crackle announced today the principal cast for the upcoming feature-length project Dead Rising: Watchtower.  Rob Riggle (LET’S BE COPS, 22 JUMP STREET), Harley Morenstein (Epic Meal Time, Epic Meal Empire, TUSK), Keegan Connor Tracy (Bates Motel, Once Upon A Time), and Aleks Paunovic (THIS MEANS WAR) will join previously announced cast members Jesse Metcalfe, Meghan Ory, Virginia Madsen and Dennis Haysbert.  

Riggle will join the cast as Frank West, a weathered photo-journalist skilled in surviving Zombie attacks; Morenstein will play Pyro, a menacing biker and Logan’s (Paunovic) second-in-command; Paunovic portrays Logan, a hard criminal and the head of a biker gang and Tracy will take on the role of Jordan, a straight-laced journalist.Deafd Rising: Watchtower takes place during a large-scale zombie outbreak. When a mandatory government vaccine fails to stop the infection from spreading, the four leads must evade infection while also pursuing the root of the epidemic, with all signs pointing to a government conspiracy. Politics, public paranoia, and media coverage play an important role in the story’s narrative.  

The project is written by Tim Carter, who is also producing with Tomas Harlan under their Contradiction Films banner.  Contradiction most recently produced the hit digital series Mortal Kombat: Legacy. Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers, Red, G.I. Joe) will executive produce. 

Crackle will debut Dead Rising: Watchtower in its feature-length form in the U.S. After Crackle’s exclusive distribution run, the project will also be released on SVOD, DVD, VOD and TV. Content Media Corporation will distribute Dead Rising: Watchtower in both feature-length and episodic formats for all international platforms. 

The Dead Rising® game franchise has sold over 7.6 MM copies worldwide. Publisher Capcom has sold over 200 MM game copies worldwide, including those from juggernaut series Resident Evil®, Street Fighter® and Mega Man®.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG Is Zooming To The Big Screen!

Anyone here grow up playing Sonic The Hedgehog on SEGA back in the 1990’s? I did, and loved every minute of my childhood because of it. As for the animated television shows that were popular at the time, I wasn’t too keen on those. But, I was always curious as to what a live-action project would look like.

I suppose that would take a bit more effort than an animation would, which is..well.. sort of the route that Sony Pictures seems to be going with its latest press release announcing the development of a feature film.

CULVER CITY, Calif., June 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marza Animation Planet, a CG animation film production company of the SEGA SAMMY Group, today announced a partnership to develop a film based on the acclaimed Sonic the Hedgehog video game series.  A hybrid CG-animated/live-action feature, the movie will be written by Evan Susser and Van Robichaux and produced by Neal H. Moritz through his Original Film banner, along with Marza’s Takeshi Ito and Mie Onishi.  Toby Ascher will serve as an executive producer 

The film will look to capture Sonic’s irreverent tone and spirit, reuniting him with some of the most revered and infamous characters of the franchise, including the evil Dr. Eggman.  Playful, mischievous, and quick on his feet in more ways than one, the world’s fastest hedgehog is known for his ability to move at supersonic speed to protect his friends from their enemies.  For more than two decades, Sonic has been one of the world’s biggest gaming icons and a $1 billion franchise with more than 140 million games sold

Along with our wonderful creative partners at Marza, we’re looking to capture everything that generations of fans know and love about Sonic while also growing his audience wider than ever before.”

STREET FIGHTER: ASSASSIN'S FIST Lands At FUNimatiom For U.S. & Canada Home Release

If you noticed any glitches while surfing the internet for cat videos on YouTube about a week and a half ago, that may have likely been martial artist, actor, writer and director Joey Ansah initiating his plans for world domination with his new hit online webseries, Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist, which has earned up to well around 10 million views in total since its debut on the Machinima YouTube. And not for nothing either, as the series, long in development since its early days as the 2010 proof-of-concept shortfilm, Street Fighter Legacy, has solidified itself as a cult phenomenon around the world, earning nothing short of upworthy praise from critics and hardcore fans of the original Capcom video game franchise from which it is based.

METAL GEAR SOLID Is Getting A Live-Action Film, And Now Has A Director

Video game movies are still a thing, and Sony is jumping on the bandwagon this week, this time with the attachment of The Kings Of Summer helmer, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts for a live action adaptation of Metal Gear Solid. The film has reportedly been in the works since game director Hideo Kojima’s initial announcement in 2006 and saw a series of ups and downs with several names otherwise rumored for the project, including voice actor, multifaceted filmmaker David Hayter said to be writing the script before those rumors were quelled.

Initially released on several Playstation platforms in 1998 courtesy of Konami with more games that followed, Metal Gear Solid tells the story of Snake, a soldier on a stealth mission to rescue two hostages and neutralize a nuclear threat from renegade special forces unit, Foxhound. Avi Arad is producing the film with Michael DeLuca steering the production.

The big question is, who will play Snake. Actor Christian Bale once showed his interest in playing the role several years ago and maybe he is still a contender. But we won’t know until further reports materialize and decipher just what’s what. But I suppose speculating is fun too.

Could HALO Be Coming To Showtime?

I’m not a gamer. Point in fact, the last time I owned a console was a Sega Genesis in the early 1990’s, so I won’t pretend to be at all familiar with the highly popukar sci-fi game Halo. However, as it stands, the game itself has been poised for sometime now to get its own live-action feature film for the past nine years, with the last known attempt to garner Elysium helmer Neill Blomkamp for its director.

In the meantime, we did get a cool little webseries back in 2012 via Machinima Prime called Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, but since then, plans for the live-action film itself continue to sit in limbo. However, on Friday, the official word came that Xbox Entertainment Studios is currently heavy in talks to develop a potential TV series for Showtime, as well as Xbox Live for interactive viewers.

The series has reportedly become a high priority for studio president Nancy Tellem who has been working on the series with Steven Spielberg under his Amblin Entertainment TV banner for a little over a year now. This time, if all goes well, production will seek showrunners with Steven Spielberg executive produce from a script by Stuart Beattie.

This is kind of what I wanted to see happen with Mortal Kombat, which is also suffering from film development hell with a possible third webseason on the way (last I checked anyway, unless we’re still mistaken). But it’s good to see Halo making the rounds in the news this month for such a production. As a Showtime viewer, and someone who enjoys a good action series on cable, I’m all for it. Actor Mike Moh Talks Ryu For STREET FIGHTER: ASSASSIN'S FIST

Action fans and gaming netizens alike drew tons of excitment when the first official teaser aired just a few weeks ago for the upcoming online release of the new webseries, Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist. And with an official announcement still pending for its release date on the multi-programing YouTube platform, Machinima, a new solo Q&A was broadcast to the public featuring lead actor Mike Moh who stars as Ryu, where he talks about the casting process, the challenges he faced to assume Ryu’s physical traits, martial arts skills, and much more.

The video is a great follow-up to our own interview hosted by my contributor Eric Watson back in December late last year, as many questions fans have been asking can now be observed with just a pinch of more detail before the series officially releases. As for a few preliminary highlights, Moh gives an epic answer to one question about being “too Asian” near the 6:40 mark. In addition, there is a really fascinating question that is mentioned regarding Ryu’s hurricane kick, and if you stick around long enough, you will be able to spot the first set pic of the actor rehearsing an on-set Dragon Uppercut in pure Ryu form. Not gonna say when, so you’ll just have to watch the video.

And don’t look at me like that.

Machinima Prime Presents: DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION

The new shortfilm arrived this week for actor, writer and director Moe Charif‘s latest shortfilm contribution, Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I’m not at all familiar with the video game, nor have I yet learned the state of this particular project as to whether or not it will go toward anything larger as far as a webseries or even a feature film. But for a live action adaptation based on a video game in an age where all film adaptations based on games are subject to particular scrutiny, this one appears to pleases the viewing masses quite a bit.

SYNOPSIS:

Based on the video game Deus Ex Human Revolution, the film dives into the world of Adam Jensen, a serif industries’ security consultant that gets augmented after an incident that almost took his life away. Although the film doesn’t follow the narrative of the game exactly, it remains true to the theme while focusing on the relationship between Adam Jensen, and his ex girlfriend Megan Reed, a scientist hand picked by Serif Industries to head Cybernetic Augmentations. Megan is taken by the Illuminati and is asked to assist them in turning on a mysterious device but she refuses to cooperate. Jensen has been looking for Megan since she was kidnapped and has finally pinpointed her location. Adam faces a complication that he did not account for; Yelena Federova, an Augmented assassin is at the facility where Megan is being held. The film also taps, even if briefly, into Adam’s mind and the struggle he must face on daily basis.

The full short film will launch on Machinima Prime March 25th, 2014 and is based on the video game Deus Ex Human revolution. Although the film doesn’t follow the narrative of the game exactly, it remains true to the theme while focusing on the relationship between Adam Jensen, and his ex girlfriend Megan Reed, a scientist hand picked by Serif Industries to head Cybernetic Augmentations. It has taken five years to fully accomplish for a franchise that has seen its fair handful of cinematic misses in well over the last twenty years. On Friday though, Capcom’s loyal and longtime cult gaming followers finally had their patience rewarded with the long-awaited teaser for the upcoming new serial feature film, Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist. The teaser and forthcoming series has already screened in front of a select number of eyes much to the delight of Capcom and crtics online who have lended nothing but words of praise for the new series which looks to become the first live-action project based on the highly successful tournament game line to stay true to its origins after winning fan approval with the 2010 viral short, Street Fighter: Legacy.

[UPDATED] Two Sample Tracks And Explosive B-Roll Footage From STREET FIGHTER: ASSASSIN'S FIST!

A trailer is yet to be shown publicly for the upcoming serial release of actor and director Joey Ansah‘s latest experiment in live-action fighting game feature-length series, Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist as the business of getting things together for a proper distribution platform rolls on ahead of a much-needed air date. However, on Friday, the official Facebook decided to give fans a glimpse into the score to be used in the series by Patrick Gill and Bolo Music UK, sampling two tracks – Three Days Three Nights, and an electric guitar-infused variation on Ken’s Theme that differs from the one introduced in Ansah’s 2010 breakout concept pitch, Street Fighter Legacy. Naturally, it brings curiousity as to what the track for the series will deliver for the character Ryu in the same comparison. Of course, we’ll just have to wait and see before then.

Also, the official Facebook page has offered a six minute B-Roll with speaking segments from Ansah and other cast and crew, along with other explosive behind-the-scenes shots of the action that awaits!

The New TV Spot For NEED FOR SPEED Asks "What Drives You?"

We have a new TV spot for director Scott Waugh‘s upcoming revenge cross-country racing thriller, Need For Speed.
