Mike Colter Joins A.K.A. JESSICA JONES As LUKE CAGE
2014 has been a great year for Marvel and Netflix since ramping things up with a few announcements a little over a year ago for a slate of Marvel programs for four non-MCU characters. Since then, there’s been much progress with Charlie Cox as Daredevil whose costumed and civilian look can currently be viewed online in several promo pics prior to premiering in May in 2015, in addition to the casting of Krysten Ritter in A.K.A. Jessica Jones, the story of the titular former superheroine-turned-incognito crimefighter who assists other superheroes in their missions.
The latter news broke earlier this month as fans were awaiting just who would appear as fellow Marvel superhero Luke Cage, who had already been reported to possibly appear in several episodes. Cage, who first appeared on Marvel’s pages during his “Power Man” and “Heroes For Hire” heyday in the seventies, has long been a topical fanboy favorite among many who wondered and pined for a Marvel feature film. Sure, there have been some short-lived efforts made in the and some stops and starts, and even folks like Terry Crews, Quentin “Rampage” Jackson, and even Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson were among those as potentials and hopefuls.
Nevertheless, Marvel already had two choices in mind by the time A.K.A. Jessica Jones had cast its lead, and now the studio is proudly announcing its pick for Luke Cage in the form of Halo: Nightfall star Mike Colter. Details follow below while the series will likely premiere in late 2015.

Marvel and Netflix are proud to announce that Mike Colter will star as Luke Cage in “Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones,” an all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015 following “Marvel’s Daredevil.”
During the course of an investigation in New York City, private investigator Jessica Jones encounters the enigmatic Luke Cage – a man whose past has secrets that will dramatically alter Jessica in ways she could never have imagined.
Colter will star opposite Krysten Ritter, who plays the title role in “Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones.”
“Mike embodies the strength, edge and depth of Luke Cage,” said Executive Producer/Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg. “We’re excited to have him bring this iconic Marvel character to life.”
“Fans have longed to see Luke Cage brought and in Mike we’ve found the perfect actor,” said Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel’s Head of Television. “Viewers will get to meet Luke Cage in ‘Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones,’ and experience why he is such an important super hero in the Marvel mythos.”
Colter is currently starring in the PlayStation Network’s original series “Halo: Nightfall” as Jameson Locke. He has appeared in a number of critically-acclaimed television series, including “The Good Wife” and “American Horror Story: Coven.”
After a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.
“Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones” is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.

Comikaze ’14: Rob Liefeld Talks DEADPOOL With Mention Of A 'Cable' Movie
This year’s fourth-annual Comikaze in Los Angeles was just where you wanted to be if you wished to learn more about 20th Century Fox’s upcoming Deadpool film, based on the Marvel character from Rob Liefeld who sat on stage to discuss a little bit about the process behind getting the film going. The film has taken about four years or so to come to fruition having shot some outright juicy concept footage with VFX whiz Tim Miller in the director’s chair and actor Ryan Renyolds giving a rather well-received all-around performance at Blur Studios.
As time would prove much later, however, said footage remained locked away at the prominent motion-capture studio without anyone ever knowing how awesome a job they did beyond their walls until it was finally leaked online earlier this year, and much to Liefeld’s own approval at that. “…Cut to that footage is in the locker for three years…three years, and god bless whoever leaked that.” says Liefeld, in part. “Whoever leaked it and goes to jail, we need to cheer them…”
The character himself has had a few screen appearances, but eventually grew a more popular audience Renyolds embracing the character in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and the actor has been one of the biggest proponents for getting the character his own standalone feature film ever since. That being said, after years of languishing in development hell, the film was finally greenlit back in September with a release date set for February 12, 2016, with further details needed on whether or not the film would be getting an R-rating in favor of fans’ demands, or fall in line with the rest of the comic book movie community with a PG-13 rating.
Of course, things are never official until they are *quote fingers* “official”, which is the current case for whether or not Renyolds himself will don the black and red and all of Deadpool‘s arsenal of heavy metal and quick-wit. Needless to say though, it’s pretty obvious by now, especially to Liefeld. “Ryan is Deadpool.” he asserted. “Look, Ryan Reynolds, he’s gone through that same career arc, the guy is ridiculously talented. He has a huge, huge passion for Deadpool. Deadpool’s not happening, because he was a giant star, they said, ‘Ryan, what do you want to do?’ And he said, ‘Deadpool.’ That’s why it happened. They would have no faith otherwise. That movie is because of his passion. He put together the team.” He then added to the anticipation by letting the audience in on what they can expect from the film compared to Blur Studios’ footage, saying “That’s nothing of what you’re going to see.”
In that same discussion earlier on, Liefeld also shared a few more highlights on the possible future of a standalone film for Marvel’s fellow futuristic time traveling supersoldier, Cable. The character was initially slated as part of an ensemble line-up for 20th Century Fox’s pending X-Force movie from writer and hopeful director Jeff Wadlow. And though further details are yet to be revealed about Deadpool‘s status in the film, Liefeld managed cleared some things up, sharing the moment when he sat with producers to discuss the future of Marvel’s big screen adaptations. “…So I sat there with a bunch of producers, and we sat for several hours, and we talked about different ideas.” said Liefeld. “And I tried to steer them in directions I think. For instance, I’ll tell you, first question they said, ‘Rob, does Cable need to be in the Deadpool movie?’ And I said, ‘No, Deadpool deserves his own function and Cable should come in in his own movie.’ And they were like, ‘Ok, because we were thinking about…’ And I was like, ‘No, you can do them both separately. They don’t need to be in the same movie.’ Look, we had a long talk, we had some ideas, I can’t share them, some of them made it across the finish line.”.
Though it may not be clear about just how 20th Century Fox will handle these properties, just a few things do seem certain: Much like Channing Tatum’s Gambit, Deadpool, and with any luck, Cable, may very well get their own screentime in individual films long before any ensemble projects are made. Furthermore, also worth noting is what the Marvel flick producer and screenwriter for Fox, Simon Kinberg, stated earlier this month with regard to whether or not Deadpool‘s spin-off would fit into the studio’s currently growing X-Men universe, to which he answered in part “There’s definitely a sort of overall plan that we’ve all been talking about for the X-Men universe now,” Kinberg said, “and Deadpool obviously fits into that.”
Sounds pretty convenient considering that the film will arrive just three months shy of Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse on May 27, 2016. As for all things Cable and recent murmurs of a Quicksilver standalone flick, we can pretty much expect to wait a little longer on some info there.
QUESTION: Which actor would you like to see cast as Cable in a forthcoming standalone film? Comment below!

Marvel Announces New Dates For Nine New Films!
The on-going war for bragging rights continues as Marvel and DC continue to duke it out, toe-to-toe, neck and neck for ultimate live-action comic book TV and film glory. DC is currently in the running following its most recent productions of productions for Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, as well as the developing TV universe between current shows like Gotham, Arrow and The Flash, and upcoming teleivison properties like Titans, Supergirl and Krypton.
Of course, Marvel wasn’t going to let all that slide, especially after having just announced what it has in store for their cinematic universe at least twice in the past month. So on Tuesday, they held an epic event to shut down all epic events (at least for now), and it’s safe to say thay the fans are happy (seriously, I think one of them shit their pants – their words, true story). On that note, here it is, all nice and thick and whatnot:
May 6, 2016 was the official release date already pre-determined for the newly announced and officially-titled Captain America: Civil War, which will see title actor Chris Evans and fellow Avenger Robert Downey Jr. in front of the camera with directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo helming. Afterward, Scott Derrickson‘s Doctor Strange was tacked for November 4, 2016 with Benedict Cumberbatch in talks to star as of Monday.
The 2017 slate would also be kicked off with the advanced May 5 announcement for director James Gunn‘s ensemble rock-and-roll space hero thriller, Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 followed by actor Chris Hemsworth‘s return in the title role of the July 28 installment of Thor: Ragnarok, with scribes Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost writing the script. Actor Chadwick Boseman‘s presence at the event also ended specualtion for his confirmation in the November 3 release of Black Panther, much to the delight of fans after the appearance of the character Ulysses Klaw in last week’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron teaser.
Blasting off the 2018 slate, Marvel then followed through with an announcement for the July 6 date for Captain Marvel, in parallel to DC’s upcoming Shazam film for which actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was confirmed to play the film’s anti-heroic villain, Black Adam last month. Moving on with the big announcements of the day were updates for the two-part third installment to the Avengers saga with Avengers: Infinity War – Parts 1 and 2 set May 4 and then May 3, 2019, respectively, with the other Vin Diesel-hopeful starrer, The Inhumans slated for a November 2, 2018 date in between; it has been reported that Marvel took an interest in bringing the Russo brothers aboard to round off the 3.4 part Avengers finale, so details on this are still pending.
New banners are now online as well to announce the releases. As usual, these films will set the course for plenty of changes to come, turning the comic book genre into a pure, rich platform for bringing spectacular saga-storytelling to the big screen as a game changer in many ways. Its what some fans have wanted over years, and the number has increased tremendously. Marvel is heeding the call, so…you’re welcome, and more to come. In the meantime, check out the banners below, and stay tuned for more footage to go viral for the May 1, 2015 release of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, directed by Joss Whedon, and director Peyton Reed‘s July 17, 2015 release of Ant-Man!
Benedict Cumberbatch Is The Sorceror Supreme In DOCTOR STRANGE!
It’s been several years since development began on Marvel’s forthcoming live-action Doctor Strange contribution to the studio’s now-accumulating cinematic universe. The script assignment has also changed a few hands prior to the addition of Jon Spaihts as the writer and Scott Derrickson as director, while it was still being debated on whether actors Johnny Depp, Joaquin Phoenix, Collin Farrell, Jareto Leto or The Imitation Game star Benedict Cumberbatch would be chosen.
At least this week now, things can finally settle with word from Deadline that Cumberbatch would take the mantle of the classic comic book character. The film will be based on the classic character by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1963, the new film will see Cumberbatch in the title role, a brilliant neurosurgeon who becomes the Sorcerer Supreme following a deadly car accident which cripples his hands, sending him on a desperate search that would ultimately granting him the mystical, magical powers and martial arts skills necessary to protect Earth from the forces of evil.
It is also being speculated that unlike Marvel movies as of late, producer Kevin Feige and the team will not put the character on the path of an origin tale, following a report back in August from CBM via Badass Digest. Further updates are still needed, but, Cumberbatch has had a lot of ground in recent years following the popularity he gained after playing Khan in Star Trek: Into Darkness, Sherlock Holmes on television, and the deadly dragon, Smaug in The Hobbit trilogy. He’s a high-caliber actor with tons of momentum, so Marvel was pretty smart in picking him, and high time we got some mobility on this film after so long.
It is currently being speculated that the film will release on July 8, 2016 in what will be the first of many huge years for comic book films between Marvel and that of Warner Bros’ DC films.
Cumberbatch returns to the big screen as Smaug in The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies this December with war drama The Imitation Game releasing next month.

Marvel To Include An Exclusive Look At AVENGERS 2 In The GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY DVD/Blu-Ray Release!
It’s not enough to simply say that Marvel’s The Avengers: Age Of Ultron will be one of the most anticipated blockbusters to arrive next year. Nope, not since its $220 million dolllar predecessor earned $1.518 billion dollars in its total run worldwide. In essence, words fail.
Disney knows this, and in lieu of the forthcoming DVD release of director James Gunn‘s surprise summer 2014 hit, Guardians Of The Galaxy, the studio is taking the opportunity to load it with a handful of great features, including an EXCLUSIVE look at the upcoming sequel directed by Joss Whedon. The footage will be included on the DVD and Blu-Ray discs while an official teaser is expected to arrive in the coming weeks.
A third Avengers film is still embryotic at the moment while Marvel’s cinematic universe remains ever growing, and likely to still include actor Robert Downey Jr. who continually likes to tease the fans regarding his own involvement as franchise co-starring lead, Tony Stark/Iron Man. In the meantime, new installations of Marvel television shows like Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter still around to whet appetites in the months leading up to next summer. By then, well… just make sure you get your tickets early.

Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision.
Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series The Avengers, first published in 1963. In other news, updates for Gunn‘s return for Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 for its July 28, 2017 are also still pending in addition to the current development of Doctor Strange, Thor 3, Black Panther, and helmer Peyton Reed’s current production of Ant-Man for its July 17, 2015 release. Bryan Singer Is Confirmed To Direct X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Staring Early Next Year
Development is still up in the air for the forthcoming installment of X-Men: Apocalypse, following up filmmaker Bryan Singer‘s 2014 smash-hit, X-Men: Days Of Future Past. According to recent statements made by screenwriter and producer Simom Kinberg, recasting for certain roles may be a possibility depending on where the new film goes, which he also stated could follow-up the 2011 movie, X-Men: First Class.
CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 To Commence Filming In Spring 2015
Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the stellar sequel to Marvel’s 2011 kick off comes home on DVD and Blu-Ray on September 9. The film is notably one of the best-received films of 2014 and with the continuation of the franchise, actor Chris Evans is expected to head down to Georgia to start filming in April next year for the May 6, 2016 release of Captain America 3 (official title pending), according to a new report from Project Casting.
Other tha the possible plot involving Captain America’s cracked shield (pictured above) which went on display for The Avengers: Age Of Ultron exhibit back in July for San Diego Comic-Con, there’s no available word yet on what the Captain America 3 plot will entail. However, one actor possibly set to return is Sebastian Stan who portrayed Bucky Barnes, a.k.a. The Winter Soldier between the first and second film.
Furthermore, in addition to the promise of a greater villain compared to the outward emergence of the NAZI death cult, H.Y.D.R.A. in the second film, there have also been “rumblings” of actor Jeremy Renner making an appearance in the film for its dated release following their upcoming reunion in the recently wrapped ensemble continuation, The Avengers: Age Of Ultron, one week earlier.
Anthony and Joe Russo are back to direct the third film, followng their work on the second, with scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely writing the screenplay; Both writers are also putting their work in on the first season of ABC’s new Captain America spin-off series, Agent Carter, set for a January 2015 premiere, of which the Russo brothers will also direct the first episodes starting in October.

SDCC 2014: A Little Marvel This, A Little Marvel That
⚫Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy is poised for an animated series while the upcoming August 1, 2014 release of said film will possibly see the return of Thunderbolts helmer-hopeful and Avengers 3 rumor subject, director James Gunn back in the chair for the July 18, 2017 sequel should the first film be a success. The sequel hype was also headlined with the company of Josh Brolin attached as intergalactic supervillain, Thanos.

Josh Brolin Joins Mexico Border Crime Thriller SICARO And AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON
I’m kind of a fan of former Goonie, actor Josh Brolin. No, I haven’t Spike Lee’s version of Oldboy yet, and I will, eventually. But I don’t really feel like he’s gotten his just dues as an actor, although he has earned some approval among filmgoers and film producers on the level, so much so that he was once a named candidate for the role of Bruce Wayne in the then-untitled Batman V. Superman movie.
Furthermore, I have also enjoyed seeing him on screen since appearing in films No Country For Old Men, American Gangster and Gangster Squad – films that didn’t need to rely heavily on special effects to appeal to me as opposed to just applying human talent through acting and physical performance. And it just so happens that filmgoers like myself will get to see more of that when Brolin joins the production of the upcoming crime thriller, Sicaro, from producer Basil Ilwaynk for Thunder Road Pictures, Edward McDonnell, ans also produced by the film’s financier, Black Label Media.
The film was announced at Cannes earlier this month upon North American and international pick-up by Lionsgate with Prisoners helmer Denis Villeneuve attached to direct. Brolin will be joined by actor Benecio Del Toro, with the film’s leading lady, Emily Blunt from a script written by Taylor Sheridan that centers on a law enforcement officer from Tucson, Arizona who travels to Mexico with a pair of mercenaries to track down a drug lord… Yes, my interest is pretty peaked!
Sicaro begins shooting this early June. In the meantime, action fans will be able to continue their summer blockbuster binge with Del Toro reprising his role from Thor: The Dark World as The Collector, and Marvel’s newest addition of Brolin as intergalatic villain, Thanos in the upcoming releases of Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy on August 1, 2014, followed by the May 1, 2015 release of Marvel’s The Avengers: Age Of Ultron; Blunt will appear nationwide in the critically-acclaimed upcoming North American release of Doug Liman’s new live-action manga sci-fi adventure, Edge Of Tomorrow, starting this Friday in theaters everywhere.
Keep an eye open for more updates!
