I’m actually surprised and humbed at this point with the buzz being received by film duo Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley following their SXSW premiere of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. That’s no BS either apart from the buzz quotes being used in the final trailer now online for the Paramount Pictures release opening next week. Admittedly, I wasn’t sure of how all the big and fantastical spectacle would bode with moviegoers what with the prominence of superhero fandom and its creeping fatigue now made just a little clearer WB’s Shazam sequel. Yeah, I’m still a little unsure, but if the buzz tracks and general viewer reactions match, at least we’ll know either way that this film’s success was deserved. A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of […]

Steve McQueen’s Lynda LaPlante novel adaptation, WIDOWS, is just weeks away from premiering at TIFF and BFI before a wide November release!
Spoiler alert: All the husbands die! …That’s obviously not a spoiler though as preset by the premise and title of 12 Years A Slave helmer Steve McQueen’s Lynda La Plante adaptation, Widows. The trend of all-female line-ups remains ever prevalent this year as it did last year with the production of the new 20th Century Fox heist thriller, and this one has a pretty fantastic quartet of its own to shepherd the narrative for the film’s November 16 release. From Academy Award®-winning director Steve McQueen (“12 Years a Slave”) and co-writer and bestselling author Gillian Flynn (“Gone Girl”) comes a blistering, modern-day thriller set against the backdrop of crime, passion and corruption. “Widows” is the story of four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities. Set in contemporary Chicago, amid a time of turmoil, tensions build when Veronica (Oscar® winner Viola […]
Robert Rodriguez recently premiered a clip at this year’s MIPTV event for his new virtual reality shortfilm endeavor, The Limit. The project hails from Robert Simonds’ STXsurreal in its newly-announced co-financing and producing partnership with Academy Award-Winning VFX firm DNEG. As Scott Roxborough’s coverage at The Hollywood Reporter noted on Wednesday, The Limit reunites Rodriguez with Fast saga and Machete Kills co-star Michelle Rodriguez in the role of a genetically enhanced weapon of mass destruction hellbent on destroying the covert agency that created her. The Walking Dead series star Norman Reedus will also appear in the shortform VR production. The Limit will kick off this summer, inagurating STX’s upcoming slate of premium, original, short-form VR series. As part of the deal according to a press announcement a week ago, DNEG will exclusively provide STXsurreal post-production VFX and 3D conversion services on a minimum of six projects. Others in the slate […]
Twentieth Century Fox has officially begun production on 12 Years A Slave helmer, Academy Award®-winning director Steve McQueen’s new movie, Widows. Gone Girl scribe, co-writer and bestselling author Gillian Flynn’s script sets the tone for a blistering, modern-day thriller set against the backdrop of crime, passion and corruption from See-Saw Films in association with New Regency. Widows is the story of four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities. Set in contemporary Chicago, amid a time of turmoil, tensions build when Veronica (Oscar® winner Viola Davis), Alice (Elizabeth Debicki), Linda (Michelle Rodriguez) and Belle (Cynthia Erivo) take their fate into their own hands and conspire to forge a future on their own terms. Joining our leading quartet are Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, Robert Duvall, Daniel Kaluuya, Lukas Haas and Brian Tyree Henry. See-Saw Films’ Oscar®-winning team of Iain Canning and Emile […]
If you’ve developed a knack for putting certain pieces together, you might already be able to assemble what happens in a possible key moment that takes place between recent promo footage and Thursday’s newest trailer for The Fate Of The Furious. It’s a major thing and completely understandable, though it’s kind of funny that the sort of short-term memory and lack of attention to detail is the kind of thing the PR people are targeting, and if that’s the case then time will tell how that goes for future movies. So, yeah. I’m a little weary but there’s nothing wrong with helping present it to onlookers who otherwise feel curious or simply feed off of the hype and fandom and I doubt the caution will put a dent in Universal Pictures’s pocket as we’re coming off of a billion dollar box office grab from its predecessor as one of the […]
Universal Keen Fast fans were able to catch a glimpse last week when Universal Pictures surprsied fans with an online teaser with new footage for the new movie, The Fate Of The Furious. This one takes you a little more into the intrigue centered on main character Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and the twists that are bound to unfold when the film opens in April. It’s a square teaser as well, so… I guess that’s a thing now. Oh well. The game has changed. #F8 pic.twitter.com/vC7ScLKFro — Fast & Furious (@FastFurious) March 4, 2017
Director Walter Hill’s latest action thriller hasn’t yet picked up steam in the U.S. for its release but it’s getting the Digital HD and DVD treatment when Tomboy arrives respectively in the U.K. on March 13 and April 3. And yes, you read correctly. That’s the title they get whereas the title in other markets may be anywhere from (Re)Assignment to The Assignment… My guess is it will be the latter for its U.S. release via Saban – an otherwise workable bit of wordplay for a title given the premise, although Tomboy would have been a wonderful move, universally. Frank Kitchen is an assassin at the top of his game. When he’s double-crossed by a group of ruthless gangsters he falls into the hands of a rogue surgeon, known only as The Doctor, who transforms him into a woman against his will. Aided by a nurse with her own set […]
Ask anyone up until now if you thought the ever-loyal Toretto family wasn’t going to have its share of trials and tribulations, and they’d probably tell you you were up your own ass for even asking that. Well, leave it to A Man Apart and Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray and his band of miscreants at Universal Pictures to turn things upside down for those naysayers who have been in for a huge surprise during the trailer launch on Sunday night for the new film, The Fate Of The Furious which now puts the famed love story between Dom (Vin Diesel) and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) in sheer jeopardy, leaving a lot of people asking a series of WTFs online and such. It’s great dialogue for Universal though as I expect it may be, further driven by whatever past updates from the film’s other major star, Dwayne Johnson, may […]
Plotting the continuing course that lies ahead of the “open road” for The Fast And The Furious franchise hasn’t been an easy feat to achieve in the last few years. Thankfully we’ve seen Universal Pictures deliver on this tenfold in 2015 having endured the trauma of real life tragedy a few years earlier and the production challenges that ensued thereafter for its seventh installation, Furious Seven. And so it begins once again – the journey to explore what remains of a story to tell centered on our group of gearheads, racers, hackers and special ops agents as they continue to take on the residual swarm of villains stemming from Furious 6 joining the likes of Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Michelle Rodriguez and Elsa Pataky once again with Jason Statham, Nathalie Emmanuel and Kurt Russell along with Scott Eastwood and actresses Charlize Theron and Dame Helen […]
With TIFF still in full swing, much is also ado with Saban Films’s most recent acquisition – director Walter Hill’s latest movie, (Re)assignment. However, don’t call it that title in front of neither Hill nor lead actress Michelle Rodriguez who leads the film as male assassin who seeks revenge after he’s double crossed by gangsters and given gender-reassignment surgery at the behest of a sinister plastic surgeon, played by actress Sigourney Weaver. The initial title upon the actress’s signing of the dotted line was Tomboy: A Revenger’s Tale and as you’ll see in the video here or below if you can see the player, Rodriguez discuss the title and their reason for their preference toward it, among other things regarding the film’s intentions as nothing more than an action-genre noir title. Critics are already observing this as per their opinions in reviews now rolling out online with mixed responses: Todd […]
Actress Michelle Rodriguez is still a leading mainstay in Fast And Furious franchise having just begun her return for the production of F. Gary Gray’s Fast 8. In the meantime, her prospects beyond Universal Pictures’s road-thriller franchise are also coming to fruition courtesy of 48 Hours and Bullet To The Head helmer Walter Hill’s newest, Tomboy, A Revenger’s Tale. The film is certainly a double-take inducer given its premise: An assassin who seeks revenge after he’s double crossed by gangsters and given gender-reassignment surgery at the behest of a sinister plastic surgeon, played by actress Sigourney Weaver. This one already has some nifty new images now viral as of earlier this year following various acquisitions already made in Berlin, and now the word from Deadline reports on the film’s North American landing at Saban Films. “This is a revenge action thriller with a twist,” said Saban Film’s Bill Bromiley. “Tomboy, […]
Courtesy Of Universal Pictures I love Sigourney Weaver, so upon learning of her possible involvement a few months ago in action veteran Walter Hill‘s upcoming gender reassigment thriller, Tomboy, it pretty much amped me up for what lies ahead. Sure, Bullet To The Head didn’t get a lot of love but it was fun to relax the brain to, and shows Hill still loves directing a meaty action film any day. But then who is starring? Well, apart from THR‘s confirming report of Weaver opposite actress Frieda Pinto’s departure, actress Michelle Rodriguez is officially headlining the film. Said Ben Said is producing the film for The Solution from Hill‘s script by way of story writer Denis Hammil, which focuses on a top hitman who sets out for revenge when he is subsequently betrayed and captured by “The Doctor” who gives him a sex change. The film is a perfect fit for […]
In anticipation of this Sunday’s broadcast of the official trailer for Furious 7, the production has spent the past week hitting the internet hard and heavy with a new viral social media campaign titled “The Road to Furious 7”, rolling out categorized featurettes highlighting various aspects of the epic franchise exhibited in all the films dating back to 2001. As such, Wednesday saw the release of a few videos and pictures showcasing the franchise’s explosive, bone-crunching fight sequences, with the biggest highlight being the principal fight between characters Dominic Torretto and D.S.S. Agent Luke Hobbs, played respectively by actors Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, in addition to another seven-second Vine teasing action from the upcoming seventh installment franchise, briefly showcasing late actor Paul Walker in action opposite a badass-looking Tony Jaa on screen, as well as the two lovely-looking femme fatales, Michelle Rodriguez and MMA superstar Ronda Rousey. Following exciting news of director Justin Lin‘s explosive box office exit with the success of Fast And Furious 6 making headway for the Peoples’ Choice Awards, Michelle Rodriguez tweeted the next level of her filming regiment replete with feisty MRod cutness shared in her latest picture from the Georgia set of Fast And Furious 7. Fans of number six will remember Rodriguez during her previous bout with cinematic action star, actress Gina Carano during their hardcore tests of skill and will in the escalator fight that was exceptionally put together by then-fight coordinator Olivier Schneider. Perhaps one of the more bigger films making huge waves among its fans around the world is the incredible and spectacular, action-packed sequel thriller, Fast And Furious 6, which is set to open theatrically in the U.K. a week before the U.S. release on May 24, 2013. The cast is currently premiering the film at a press junket in London, along with actress Michelle Rodriguez, who has already made a few revelations this week, one of which indicated that Jason Statham had been confirmed for the seventh installment in the film franchise to be directed by James Wan, with director Justin Lin stepping aside. There are multiple film clips available online highlighting the film’s intense and pulse pounding action. The biggest scenes expected to thrill Fast fans are the titanic hand to hand fight scenes coordinated by Olivier Schneider, whose previous works include Taken and Safe House. You can check […]
