Black Creek arrives on Apple TV+ in June from VMI Worldwide.
The first official trailer rolled out over the weekend for the new martial arts action Western, Black Creek. Directed by Shannon Lanier and action specialist Mike Moeller, the film is billed as a passion project by the one and only Cynthia Rothrock whose preceding Indiegogo campaign surpassed its goals in the past year to bring together a bevy of martial arts and action cinema veterans. Black Creek is a dark, gritty, dystopian, western action martial arts film featuring a strong ‘no-holds-barred’ female protagonist portrayed by action film star Cynthia Rothrock. The plot centers around a sheriff’s sister who seeks revenge against the terrifying leader of a group of outlaws after discovering he brutally murdered her brother, his wife, and other family members in a gritty southwestern town. Rothrock took to Comic Con over the summer to premiere an exclusive action sizzle teaser to attendees which soon went live online to […]
2019 was an emotional rollercoaster of highs and lows. The high were relatively a given with the amount of talent on display for The Hit List column, and so it’s my honor and privilege to present the final installment of The Hit List for the year until its return in January, TBD! Saori Izawa leads off the final round of stunt reels to kick off The Hit List, followed by reels featuring Talin Chat, Nykki McGee, Sean Rhee, C.C. Weske, Hank Watkins, Taylor Krasne, Marco Signigaglia, Junfang Wang, Darius Davis, Katrina Danyluk, Alex Bankier, Katrina Ho, Jacky Dunnes, Mattias Tor, Jonathen Wallace, Kathryn Reese, Connor van Vuuren, Michelle Fisichella, Pierre Bourdaud, Louise Forsley, Chuck Johnson, Lana Carolona, and Eli Martyr. Trailer content also makes a quick return to the Hit List, and so it’s with great pleasure I share the teaser trailer for this Assassination Classroom-inspired short from Nick Shaw […]
Making way for German martial arts action cinema is the auspicious return of cinematography wonder and filmmaker Tanay Ulgen for Jack Walker. Ulgen, whose exemplary work can be seen in an array of shortfilms online such as The Messenger and Repercussion, makes his feature debut. Hailing from Broken Bone Productions and Mike Moeller Films, actor Stefan Morawietz who appears alongside Darren Shahlavi in Ip Man 2, stars from a script by Andreas and Mathias Urra. The film also rejoins him with Arena Of The Street Fighter and One Million K(l)icks star Mike Moeller who serves as fight choreographer, and in turn with Ulgen as they both share lineage with Reel Deal Action feature, Plan B: Scheiss Auf Plan A. A trailer is on its way so feel free to tune back in should one arise, and follow the film’s progress on Facebook as well.
Welp, I made good use of my weekend with some great anime on top of work and a pair of reviews. Not much else really. Putting together the hit list was a bit weary since I couldn’t find anything in trailers or things of that nature. L to R (top): Jade Xu, Brian Le, Cynthia Rothrock, Andy Le, Dana Rasmussen L to R (bottom): Stefan Brysha, Sarah Purdum, Greg Poljacik, Lynn Jung, Jon Alagoa However…there is still plenty to share in terms if content this week and thus, we have a fresh batch of stunt and demo reels to kick it all off courtesy of World Wushu Champion, actress and martial artist Jade Xu, followed by 3run’s Adam Brashaw, and stunt players Dana Rasmussen, Jackie Chan Stunt Team member Lee Huang, and Storm Freerun’s Lynn Jung with Greg Poljacik, Lana Katz, Matt Kennedy, Mallory Thompson, Stefan Brysha, Sarah Purdum, Jacob […]
Actor Mark Dacascos’s seldom stake nowadays in action films is something that I begrudgingly continue to deal with, and I know for a fact that I am no island when it comes to this. While surely keeping himself diverse and flexible between projects, it’s no secret that the man who won our hearts over the years in films like Only The Strong, Drive, Boogie Boy, China Strike Force and Cradle To The Grave should have at least been in an Expendables film by now. As such, to see the actor take the reigns in a film like Ultimate Justice does have its rewarding moments and is something to appreciate, although you’ll be hard pressed to go unchallenged for longer than the first act. Hailing as the second feature film from Silent Partners – the people who brought you One Million K(l)icks, Martin Christopher Bode makes his directorial feature debut with […]
To be a fan of Mark Dacascos is to be well acquainted with frustration and disappointment. There’s no doubt that he’s one of the most gifted action stars of his age, but he’s often underutilized or downright miscast in the majority of his filmography. For every Drive, there are five China Strike Forces; for every Brotherhood of the Wolf, there are ten Cradle 2 the Graves. Dacascos was given a chance to be the “next big action star” in the 90s with Only the Strong, but due to some bad career advice (cough, Double Dragon, cough) he missed out on his big break. With every new Dacascos action vehicle, fans are filled with an increasingly faint glimmer of hope that we’ll see him be utilized to his full potential… But more often than not, we walk away disappointed. This is a lamentation that is shared by, of all people, Mark […]
2017 has assured itself as yet another terrific year for the action and martial arts moviegoing crowd with the forthcoming release of director Martin Christopher Bode’s latest Mark Dacascos starrer, Ultimate Justice. For this, it was at some point during Cannes that new sales art was unveiled to promote the film and thankfully we now have that artwork viewable below, along with word of a U.S. and Canadian release set for October 3 from Vision Films via Sony Pictures. The film marks a long-awaited return to the genre for actor Dacascos who recently debuted as director while co-starring in Alexander Nevsky headliner, Showdown In Manila; Dacascos leads the cast of Ultimate Justice from a script by Marco Theiss that centers on a squad of former elite soldiers who rejoin when one of their own is attacked. Also starring are co-producer and fight choreographer Mike Moeller, actors Matthias Hues, Wolfgang Riehm and […]
So, I finally saw John Wick: Chapter Two and you can read my review here… Yes, I am as happy as a fat kid at a salad bar replaced by a chocolate cake vendor. Moving on, the Hit List is here for a new week and it’s an absolute shit ton of awesome and we kick it right off like we normally do with a raft of cool new stunt and training demo reels by today’s top performers. Icing the top of this muffin is Eric Jacobus in his own iteration, “Hot Ryu” for his latest Street Fighter movelist, followed by spectacular stunt samplers by Marshall A. Bingham, Chien Van Duong, Kendall Wells, Jared Beaulieu, Olivia Brown, Juliette Kendall, Simon Li, Samuel Symon, and Ukranian fall guy Mykola Galagan with a new fight choreography and performance reel of his own. Enjoy! Onto some things to promote and we begin with […]
Getting a martial arts action picture off the ground these days is not easy. What helps, of course, is the initiative, talent and the necessary support base to further substantiate the demand for such a film and thankfully, it’s the kind of support that the folks over at German martial arts, stunt and film production group, Reel Deal Action, have been able to accumulate in the well over five-year period in which its members have been upscaling in the industry. Thus, having proved their worth in the feature arena (Skyfall, Big Game, Hitman: Agent 47, xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage) and with an array of action-packed shortfilms available online – some of which have earned a fair amount of acclaim among netizens and within the festival circuit (Evil Twin, Behind Every Great Man, Bad Choice), actors Can Aydin, Cha-Lee Yoon and Phong Giang are finally front and center as they […]
It’s been a while since we last heard word on director Martin Christopher Bode’s latest Mark Dacascos starrer, Ultimate Justice. As it stands now, the film now has itself a U.S. distribution home at Vision Films who have already accumulated several forthcoming titles under its banner. SYNOPSIS: When a family member of one of their own is attacked, a team of former elite soldiers are called back into action and a ruthless game of kill or be killed is set in motion. The film is written by Marco Theiss and self financed by Ruediger W. Kuemmerie who produced with co-star Mike Leeder, with Markus R. Vogelbacher of International Film Partners executive producing. Dacascos and Leeder are joined by a cast that also includes Matthias Hues, Yazmeen Baker and German action powerhose Mike Möller who co-produced and served as fight choreographer. Alois Knapps served as Director of Photography. Kummerie and Leeder […]
If there was ever someone who has consistently proven himself to be a dynamic talent in the world of martial arts on film, it would be Mike Moeller. His latest lead role in Alex Padrutt’s underground fight drama, One Million K(l)icks delivers quite a feat with Moeller starring as a beleagured fighter whose internet celebrity status takes a turn for the worse, forcing him to fight his way out of the underworld. You can read my thoughts on it here while the film forges its path to North America very soon on DVD and Blu-Ray landing this August. As such, the film’s first stop will be iTunes with a date set for June 7 and you can now pre-order it HERE before the price goes up on the aforementioned date.
It’s been sixteen years since I once had a computer that didn’t crash on me. It was my first computer and it allowed me a window into a world of action cinema bigger than what I could find at my local video store (you know, back when those existed?). It allowed me to spy an eye on many a shortfilm from some of my favorite groups from here in the states, to across the pond and beyond as it does to this very day. Little did I know that trajectory would lead me to Germany where once budding action star Mathis Landwehr would become the face of the genre with the post apocalyptic action thriller, Kampfansage: Der Letzte Schüler. That film, directed by Johannes Jaeger and released in 2005, wasn’t perfect, but it certainly served up some of the best action on film for any fan of the genre. Moreover, […]
I think at some point I may have to give myself an actual weekend to rest and relax. That may mean having to sacrifice a Hit List sometime one of these weeks, but considering all the material that arose in the past week, I couldn’t let this one slide. Alas, welcome back to another installation of The Hit List featuring some of the latest and best in action performance from today’s inspired film actionistas. The first round is always the most fun, and that pertains to some meaty stunt reels now available this week with the first reel via Vimeo with an exhilarating stunt and fight choreography reel by Manu Lanzi. The playlist beneath continues things onward starting with Daryl Prachett with one of four new reels this month on his channel, along with reels from Laurie Singer, Paul Hampshire, Nikki Brower, Darin Hicks and Tyler Buckingham, followed by a new reel […]
An action film that unfies the star caliber of performers like Matthias Hues, Mark Dacascos and Mike Moeller would be an easy sell for any fan of the genre. Thus, you get the case for director Martin Bode’s new film, Ultimate Justice, the latest from Silent Partners with producer Mike Leeder also in a starring role among our cast for a story that congregates an elite team of soliders when one of their own is attacked. The new teaser has arrived this year and you get a good sample of what awaits in terms of action and drama while no dialogue is heard. At any rate, we’re getting what looks like an ample package of heavy hitters ready to deliver something entertaining and worthwhile for fans. Fellow action favorite Mathis Landwher also stars with Brandon Rhea, Sandra Tauro, Yazmeen Baker and Wolfgang Riehm, and action sequences put together by none […]
Following the April announcement of UK-based Evolutionary Films’s pre-market acquisition of sales and distribution of director Alex Padrutt‘s thrilling new martial arts flick, One Million K(l)icks, the UK trailer, previously a Vimeo exclusive, is now viral to watch online. Of course, there’s still the matter of the sequel for which action star Mike Moeller is set to return with Ten Dead Men and Left For Dead helmer Ross Boyask now on board to direct, so it bears mentioning. Hopefully we’ll get some further distribution news about this soon enough. SYNOPSIS: ONE MILLION K(L)ICKS is a high impact German language martial arts movie which follows Mike Moeller’s character, a well meaning if belligerent fighter who finds himself drawn into the world of an underground martial arts tournaments. He soon learns that money and glory mean nothing when your life is on the line for the entertainment of viewers streaming the fights […]
It’s becoming an electrifying weekend of news for movie deals coming out of France, and fans within the martial arts action niche aren’t being ignored at all. Several deals have been made so far, including one regarding the latest directorial debut success of Alex Padrutt’s martial arts drama, One Million K(l)icks, the story of a fighter’s ultimate battle for survival in an underground online betting tournament with German action sensation Mike Moeller starring. The film is already set for distribution in the U.K. through international sales agent, distribution company Evolutionary Films who, as of this week, will officially co-produce the English-language sequel, Two Million K(l)icks: Hong Kong Death Match with Moeller returning to star. Kuemmerle, who produced the first film, are back to produce for Ross Boyask, helmer of such actioners as Left For Dead, Ten Dead Men, and actress Cecily Fay’s fantasy adventure, Warrioress, […]
The past week was insane for me, as there have been tons of things I needed to get done whilst completing today’s Hit List. Fortunately, I’m making headway here and managed to finish knocking this puppy out all in a day, on top of wrapping up a special project over the weekend as well. In the meantime, let’s get things going with this week’s Hit List of stunt performance and choreography/training reels and other fine gems from Sia Alipour, Hannah Betts, Simon Potter, Doc Duhame, Niko Dalman, Cedric Tellier, Mike Moeller and Roberto Lopez! Roberto Lopez 2015 Stunt Performers Reel from Stuntworks on Vimeo. Now for something a little bit more comprehensive and formal – It was World Tai Chi Day on Saturday, and in lieu of this, acclaimed Tai Chi practioner Wang Hai Jun performed a bit of his craft in the new short, Towards The Light from UK-based […]
Alexander Padrutt‘s directorial debut, One Million K(L)icks, is certainly one with a setup seen before in previous films, but still presents another delightful experiment in genuine martial arts and drama filmmaking with an actor capable of presenting the gravitas on both ends. Lead actor and action star Mike Moeller is no stranger to this as be continues his rise in the genre with his latest role as talented fighter forced to come to grips with the underground fighting circuit and the crooks running it, as well as his own personal demons. The film is the launchpad of producers Rudieger W. Kuemmerle and Mike Leeder over at Silent Partners Deutschland and has already had an audience in Europe, specifically in Germany, although the film is now making waves at Cannes this month where UK-based Evolutionary Films will be representing international sales for the film. As such, the company is likely setting […]
Hot off the heels of the World Premiere of German action star Mike Moeller‘s latest epic martial arts drama, One Million K(L)icks, production company Silent Partners is only a handful of days away from filming its second property in the form of another new martial arts action thriller, Ultimate Justice. A full cast and crew listing can be expected for an announcement soon, but Silent Partners’ own producer Mike Leeder has already taken to the film’s Facebook group to officially announce the lead star of the film in the form of action star Mark Dacascos (Drive, China Strike Force, Hawaii Five-0). Dacascos has already been making a few headlines as of late pertaining to previous reports of a third season of Mortal Kombat Legacy with reportedly returning actor Casper Van Dien and director Kevin Tancharoen back at the helm. Dacascos‘s IMDb page also presents a listing of several other movies […]
