I can’t really stress enough the kind of justice Cheo Hodari Coker did for actor Finn Jones’s cameo episode with Mike Colter in this year’s second season of Luke Cage. Jones’ series debut as Marvel superhero and Defender-to-be, Iron Fist, wasn’t the best received which cast an even better light on the compelling and chilling drama centered on his co-stars Tom Pelphrey and Jessica Stroup. That was largely a “grey area” factor in enjoying the first season which reasonably didn’t do much for a series meant to garner notable press for its martial arts action spectacle. Clearly, some things needed chaging going into season two and in the wake of having premiered exclusive footage for the comic-con crowd in San Diego on Thursday evening, the reactions overall seem much more optimistic. ILLANG: THE WOLF BRIGADE Gets Prequel Development, Netflix Release
Terrific things are happening already ahead of the upcoming release of Kim Jee-Woon’s Illang: The Wolf Brigade. The film is set to open in Korea on July 25 while efforts toward a prequel are officially in motion according to a KoBiz report by Pierce Conran last Tuesday. Webtoon writer Yoon Tae-Ho (Inside Man) is penning the script for the prequel which is being jointly developed by Kakao Pages and Daum Webtoon. The story is said to be set five years before Illang (formerly Inrang); there are any number of stories before and after Jin-Roh in the Kerberos saga to guess from seeing as how there are prequels to draw from on both ends, and so I’m not sure where Yoon is starting from. Netflix’s advances in original content now span with McG’s own forthcoming alien invasion sci-fi, Rim Of The World. As Amanda N’Duka reported on Friday, actor Dean S. Jagger (Corbin Nash) is tapped to star in the film which began production a month ago in Los Angeles. Four misfit teenagers become unlikely allies when their summer camp experience is cut short by an alien invasion. Filming is currently underway for director Jim Mickle’s new crime pic, In The Shadow Of The Moon. Netflix officially announced the production which beagn on July 4 with Boyd Holbrook (Logan, Narcos), Emmy nominee and Golden Globe/SAG winner Michael C. Hall (Safe, Cold In July), Cleopatra Coleman (The Last Man on Earth, White Famous) and Emmy Award nominee Bokeem Woodbine (Fargo (TV), Spider-Man: Homecoming) starring. Gregory Weidman and Geoff Tock penned the script which tells of a Philly police officer’s struggle with a lifelong obsession to track a mysterious serial killer whose crimes defy explanation. Jeff Sneider is reporting exclusively at Collider that Anthony Mackie and Frank Grillo will headline the Netflix original English-language remake of Fred Cavayé‘s 2010 thriller, Point Blank. Everly and Mayhem helmer Joe Lynch is directing from a script by Adam G. Simon, and with Grillo producing with Joe Carnahan via their WarParty banner next to Gaumont. For some, June 22 can’t come faster for the Luke Cage fanbase’s binge-crowd. Despite Marvel’s own slight of hand from time to time in the headlines, I’m keen on seeing a certain partnership arise in our title hero’s efforts to clean up Harlem, with actor Mike Colter taken to task. Actress Alfre Woodard leads the bevy of demonic anarchy that follows her reign on the town in the upper-Manhattan neighborhood where she’s claimed the noticeably-departed Cottonmouth’s stronghold. SACRED GAMES: Don’t Miss The Explosive Official Trailer For The Upcoming Crime Drama
Apart from anime, I’ve been hugely keen on some live-action serial content in recent months and I have a few Netflix favorites. Lately it appears Anurag Kashap (Gangs Of Wasseypur) and Vikramaditya Motwane (Bhavesh Joshi Superhero) are ready to oblige the Netflix crowd this summer as well with upcoming crime saga, Sacred Games. The official trailer is out as of the other day, inspired by Vikram Chandra’s 2006 bestseller and it looks purely sensational with actor Saif Ali Khan shepherding the Phantom Films-produced tale. Saif Ali Khan commands the screen as Sartaj Singh, a seasoned, cynical police officer taking on Mumbai’s corrupt underbelly. Radhika Apte and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The eight-part drama hails the prominent streaming platform’s current fortitude with a premiere slated for July 6. Don’t miss the trailer below!
